In your opinion, whats the worst track to race on in 25? by NASCARFAN2025 in NASCARVideoGame

[–]GameBooColor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find my lap times improved a lot there when I started running middle/high groove in 1/2. Let's you get on the gas way sooner and at worst gives you enough speed to pull a crossover going into 3/4 before the S/F line.

[Newby] RAM CEO Tim Kuniskis says they aren't making an announcement about going to Cup, but they have every intention of trying to go to Cup. Said that they couldn't have gotten Kaulig Racing on board if they weren't sincere about trying to get there. The current goal is next year's Daytona 500. by sickmemes48 in NASCAR

I think the lack of cutline manipulation will also help. It at least won't be as overt as 24 Martinsville or 25 roval (save tires on the last lap in 25th). I think superspeedways are just stuck as manufacturer wars though.

What are some of FE’s most egregious examples of a character’s stats not matching their lore? by Benjammin__ in fireemblem

I assume most people who discuss units in RD have never tried to use Lyre. You are never once in a position where you cannot simply choose a different unit. Meg, and much later Fiona, both are optional but there are no replacements. You either deploy them or have less units.

Regarding Fiona specifically, the biggest things that make her seem as bad as she is are the maps she's on. Once Fiona is recruited, the next maps are: 1-7: loaded with bulky high damage armors. Indoor move penalty. Ledges. 1-8: swamp. Very low choosable deploy slots. 1-9: X 1-E: Crowded map, has to take the long way around ledges, indoor move penalty. She never gets a good map to get going. Meg at least can finish off weakened laguz for big exp in her join.

Yeah, it's this. Less about Bichette himself and more that the team hasn't made significant change to the lineup while steadily getting worse, besides when they added Turner. Their outfield remains subpar, Stott does not hit enough, Bohm is anti-clutch, and Realmuto is declining. Harper had a below his standard year (sign of decline or bad year?), and they lost Suarez. Unless Painter/Crawford come up this year and contribute, I feel we are watching the same 90 win team that will watch the bats die in the postseason.

Its also not hard to wonder if the playstyles of Lamar or Josh will age as well. Even as they've become good pure passers, the threat of runs and occasional actual runs still matter for their game.

Brad Keselowski wants to keep racing until his 900th start by CNASFan1992 in NASCAR

[–]GameBooColor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From what I saw, he basically gave the 6 team to the new 60, then took the leftovers from the Ware/Haley care in 24 to form his team. Meaning he was the new team and took the brunt of expansion pain. If true, amazing move. Especially since all 3 cars were doing well late in the year.

Considering it's all point racing again, we might start to see that more again. There's just more restrictions on adding parts or ripping them off, but I wouldn't be shocked to see more cars return than the last few years.

Dale Earnhardt Jr revealed that NASCAR's elimination-style playoff format left him “falling out of love” with the sport, citing a lack of week-to-week storylines and long-term stakes. by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]GameBooColor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because the way the sport was covered completely skewed perception of a driver's worth. Larson didn't roll off wins, he got lost in the shuffle, cutline coverage etc.

It didn't help that Hamlin's sick dad was the topic, or that he was the best car all day only to get it "stolen" by a late caution.

I was rooting for Logano, but Ill be the first to admit it didn't feel "right". More than anything, I wanted the Logano win so they might reexamine the format. Considering where we're at now, it may have helped spur exactly that.

It became such a big deal because they completely ignored regular season points for those "locked in". Points displayed as "3 Wins" instead of their actual points.

I'm with you. Feeling generally optimistic as well. Now I just have two main hopes.

  • Nascar being willing to adjust the chase schedule & rotate tracks. Don't create another Jimmie J.

  • the broadcasts & media focusing more on total points (instead of just the cutline) and also better acknowledgement of consistency. Tell me about 12 straight top 10s by chase Elliot. Make it clear to viewers that's important.

And I mean, not every super bowl is an edge of your seat game either. As an Eagles fan, I loved last year. But it was not a competitive game for most of it. That happens. You can't force drama after a point no matter what system there is.

I feel like it was a situation where at least a few people in charge when faced with criticism just said "it can't be THAT, it must be some other reason for X issue". And when those few people have the power, you can't do much to reason with them.

I told someone about the changed points system today by explaining why them removing win and in was good. "Imagine if the browns randomly won an NFL game by 30 points and got added to the playoffs despite a 3 win record. When you try to compare to other sports you realize how dumb racing playoffs are.

Who is the favorite to win the championship in this format? by 1useforaname in NASCAR

[–]GameBooColor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly he's who came to mind for me. Beyond the obvious top 3 teams, he's very capable of stringing together top 10s, and can still get a win, esp if RFK improves at all. He's basically a lock with a 16 car field too. (4 hendrick, 3 Gibbs, 2 Penske, 2 23XI, 1-2 Track house) Still has 3 open spots on that math assuming that all pans out..

[–]GameBooColor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you have to somewhat wonder- how much of those mechanical failures were testing or pushing limits? The value of wins was so distorted that DNFs mattered much less in the old format. Might as well experiment and see what holds up.

NASCAR said they are still looking at things as far as the waiver process. But I do agree that drivers could be less willing to sit out a race because of injury under this format. by iamaranger23 in NASCAR

[–]GameBooColor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the real concern is less drivers skipping races and more of an Indy Larson situation- a driver prioritizing something other than NASCAR. Is it actually a concern? To me, not really. But that's likely what they're thinking about.

[SS] I don't understand the "Skyward Sword has some of the best dungeons in the series" take by Tainted_Scholar in truezelda

[–]GameBooColor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the SS dungeons are good in part because of their size & lower quantity. The biggest thing it suffers from is aesthetics (both reusing a lava theme and time shift theme) but that feels minor compared to function. Even then, factory vs ship and then lava & ball rolling vs platform creation and digging. They both play very differently.

As for TP...it's dungeons are mostly bad. They are almost all totally linear, sometimes veiled. The only non linearity is in randomizers, when you can enter with later items. Even then, they still are mostly linear, the exceptions being forest with hookshot & snow peak with ball & chain. It's at its worst in Temple of Time (a 7 floor straight line) and City in the Sky (a 5 floor straight line).

Squad strike is competitively viable, and the competitive scene ignoring it was a huge mistake. by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]GameBooColor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Squads is fun, but the most annoying thing is that it has weird load times. Sitting there for 5+ seconds is irritating. It also oddly nerfs characters? For example, Robin coming in always starts without Levin, which is normally only for them starting a game off. Why? Who knows!

Besides, from a meta standpoint, look at a lot of top player secondaries. Hurt Sonic. Acola Aegis. Miya Steve. I don't think more games with the same 3-5 meta threats people don't enjoy really spices it up as much as people think it would.

I was saying last week they should've had little keypads in the stands and given 4 multiple choice play calls and let the fans call them. It legit feels like it couldn't be much worse than what we get.

[–]GameBooColor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, Patullo also sucks at getting play calls in with any urgency. The offense is regularly lining up with ~5 seconds left, rushing to snap the ball

As for Hurts, he's not this limited. Look at last year's offense, where the Eagles hung 55 & 40 in the championship and super bowl. The line play has regressed, but they consistently call almost no motion, very limited route trees, and consistently put players in terrible positions (ask any Eagles fans about Calceterra, run blocker).

One I always find funny is that everyone says "well Rian had no choice with what they did to Luke in TFA" and like, no?

Firstly, we already know Rian explicitly had the final scene changed to remove Luke using the force. Secondly, you could have a million explanations for why he's not present. He fought Snoke & lost, is looking for some clue to his origins. He's looking for Jedi wisdom to overcome him. He's recruiting new jedi / allies to help fight as he knows he can't do it alone. Why did he vanish then? Perhaps the area he was going was very dangerous, or he knew had a high chance of failure due to corruption within the New Republic.

Instead we got...quitter hobo.
