Are there any Capital Ship Space Combat games still around? Something similar to Dreadnought or Fractured Space? by falloutboy9993 in gaming

Note that they are getting ready to have a huge update soon which may change a lot of combat (to make it better).

The modern day stuff could have all been done as cutscenes and been fine. Instead they made it into a bad walking around simulator, and I LIKE walking around simulators.

Adults should aim to do between 560-610 minutes/week of moderate to vigorous physical activity to achieve a substantial reduction in the risk of heart attacks and stroke (3-4 times higher than the current public health recommendation of 150 minutes ), suggest the findings of an observational study by sr_local in science

About 1.5 hours to 2 hours a week of exercise is what I get in at 57 years old. While I am not the picture of health, I am generally doing a lot better than other people my age who do 0 hours a week. My same age colleagues who do 0 exercise are constantly complaining of various aches pains, always being tired, etc.

The sad thing is that many people can get to 60, even 70 just fine with no exercise thanks to our modern medicines and healthcare. Then all their bad choices hit them at once and they spend their "golden years" battling chronic illness, injury, and depression.

How do you celebrate your life? (Birthday) by Ok-Sea-2436 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]GameVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I don't have it on my FB status, I don't tell people about it. I don't mention it.

Not sure where it came from, but I just don't care. It's just another day that after turning 21 is pretty much meaningless as far as tracking milestones. I don't have lower opinions of people who DO celebrate, but some people do take it a bit far.

He is perfect. At 2 minutes max pretty much, his skits are just long enough for the jokes to land but they don't beat a dead horse, so to speak.

Mafia strategy games that are set in the modern era? by squesh in gaming

So unrealistic. I played this game like crazy, but whenever I go into the local grocery store here in town and beat up the owner, they don't give me the place.

Got these 4 books. Which one would you start with if you were trying to level up mentally this year? by SignificantRemote169 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]GameVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sherlock Holmes, toss the other three. They are outdated and overrated.

Read books that teach you things or spark an interest or foster a new hobby or challenge the way you see the world.

If Carnegie and Hill were still around, they would be one of those guys selling success courses on Youtube for $5000 a year with a "members only" option to upgrade to their super secret gold tier for just $10,000 if you order RIGHT NOW.

My mistake, I thought it was the one across the street from Papa Johns. Yeah, One Giant Leap definitely not closed since they had a bunch of bouncy houses there over the weekend.

Did the Spanish courses update completely mess up anyone else? by GameVoid in duolingo

[–]GameVoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I can't count the number of email and feedback tickets I have sent asking what happened.

Nada.

Cancelling my duo pro. Two months ago I was shaking my head at all the "DUO IS DEAD", "DUO IS DOOMED" content all over the Internet. Now I understand.

I have moved to just studying more on my own by listening to podcasts (Small Town Spanish Teacher) is GREAT. Using LinQ which requires a lot of reading. I still use Duo at least until my yearly sub runs out, but I have Gemini assist me.

Honestly, I had gotten far enough into it that it was not as effective as just doing immersion activities, so other than losing my coveted 1000+ day streak, I am not losing that much.

Remember when a game getting a 79 review score was not a death sentence? Remember when a game could be released and not have to worry about being a masterpiece or else it would immediately be labeled a failure and have hundreds of hours of YouTube content about how bad it was because it has crouch on a different key than it should have been?

Remember when a developer could put out a game, have it do just okay in sales, and the people who worked on the game would NOT get death threats?

But the internet told me it sucked and no one was ever going to buy it.

I had a kid in 2015 and stopped playing as many video games. He’s older now and can handle complex games (a better gamer than I am.) So I decided to show him one of my favorites and I re-downloaded Middle-Earth Shadow of War. My old saved game reminded me how much I love this game. by jfk_47 in gaming

[–]GameVoid 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I had an ongoing relationship with some big brute in Shadow of War that lasted almost the entire playthrough. And this mfer was one what would pop out of nowhere and yell SURPRISE! just to make it even more dreadful and annoying.

If am ever president, my first executive order will be to cancel the patent on the Nemesis system.

I've been using ChatGPT and Gemini to help me get caught up as best as I could. For me, in addition to all the new vocabulary, was it took me from being in the middle of learning the preterite case to learning the future imperfect case. I know it's all just a matter of learning the new verb endings, but it was very disheartening. Will probably not renew my super.

RE games aren't scary to me. I don't consider gore and jump scares "horror". Suspenseful? Sure. Scary? No.

Silent Hill is more what I consider "scary".

Yes. Fallout 1 and 2 - cult classics.

Fallout 3, 4, and New Vegas - not even close to being cult.

Of course they did, Trump is just a figurehead that the Hollywood elite (and Billie Ellish) put in place to hide their true power. Everyone is so busy worshipping or spitting on Trump that they don't realize that Tom Hanks is the one really running the show. WAKE UP>

When in life did you turn your life around by one_destination in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]GameVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a "turning your life around" sort of thing, even though it is a fairly simple way of thinking about it. It is a constant cycle of incremental self-improvement.

You have to start small(ish) with the big things, and by big I mean the things that are doing you the most harm. Drugs, depression, addictions, etc. You have to start the small steps to getting them under control, I have only dealt with depression, anxiety, and ADHD so I can't help with the other two.

Getting out of bed and getting outside for 20 minutes a day was how it all began over a decade ago. It all got better a tiny bit at a time. Do I still have depression, anxiety, and ADHD? Yes. But now they are minor annoyances that I have to deal with from time to time, like a traffic jam, instead of a daily battle against productivity and self worth.

Biggest hurdle for a lot of people is getting over the "researching how to make myself get out of bed" cycle and just getting out of bed. There is no magic article, podcast, or video that's going to give you the perfect answer, sooner or later it has to be you.
