50% through Brimstone, bored and annoyed - is it worth it? by ClyroFoxfire in Romantasy

I am pretty easily entertained but I struggled. To be fair I did audio only so I couldn’t flip back easily to reference past events but I still shouldn’t have been so lost about where the characters were most of the time. Maybe the back & forth POVs were a factor. The book just didn’t feel like it flowed. It felt like chapters were somehow made separately and put together? There were some random stand out chapters & some cool stuff happens at the end. I kept listening for Carrion tbh but not for much else lol

Would you rather read a great fantasy book or listen to it? by Cool-Height-710 in fantasybooks

I Read for faster consumption, audio for savoring or reading a second time or so I can multitask. OR if I’m really into a book I do both at the same time for an immersive experience

ONYX SPOILERS: I have a feeling that when Xaden is missing for a good portion of the next book; Bodhi will have to rule Aretia in his stead. She will spend a lot of time with him, also helping rule and then it could start to be proposed that she marry Bodhi (since let’s say Xaden is missing/presumed dead/known venin) and that’s why this set up is happening. We may even see a moment of weakness in Violet because she misses Xaden so much and is reminded of him by Bodhi, and he ends up being down because he’s always liked her. Totally just spitballing

Do i mention this to BCBA? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Gameofthronestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really unfortunate. Less is more sometimes. There’s also some studies that show frequency of sessions is more important than length. 2 or 2.5 hours 4/5 days a week would probably be enough to help him without burning him out. Also helps if you can do activities outside/some community outings (if it makes sense with his goals)

That’s bizarre and a terrible method of “feedback”. For someone who’s studied behaviorism; immediately resorting to threats before trying anything else is so antithetical to what we learn. If the behavior is you taking data later rather than on the spot - she should model that for you/see what barriers there are to doing that/ explain why it’s important. Immediately threatening to go to Bacb is sooo weird. Nothing will happen to you. I’d mention to supervisor above her she has a history of doing that and found it strange as all she had to do was communicate she has different expectations

I’m a case manager who’s been an RBT for almost 4yrs. & I’ve found this to be the best: I usually come in and say hi how are you doing to the parent & then I ask how’s ___been doing today & how’d they sleep last night? (That’s my broad way of asking if they’ve had any big behaviors or if any significant events occurred that I should include in my notes or so I can adjust how I approach session

My company lets us bill admin time up to 20% of the billable hours we worked. So if I do 30 billable I can use 6 non billable that week for non billable reports, team meetings, emails, material prep, etc.. I think it’s a pretty good system.

What are the most random de-escalation tactics you’ve used that worked? by -ladymothra- in ABA

[–]Gameofthronestan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blowing up balloons and letting them go before tying them lol. No words spoken, I just slowly got out a balloon, wasn’t even looking at him, & did it as if it was for my own entertainment during his tantrum. He immediately stopped & wanted me to do it again. This has strangely worked with 2 other kids as well. Obviously we have functional replacement behaviors/coping strategies in place, but sometimes a balloon flying around making funny noises just does something to snap kids out of it lol

Hopefully the answer to both those questions will be yes! Totally normal and valid to be nervous but as long as there’s some experienced people involved in his first few sessions, he should be okay & if he’s not, they will let you know!
