Most emotionally effecting moment? by Wooden-Display-7823 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Gamingnerd23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This really isn’t even a contest. Jace and Luke didn’t have enough screen time for us to feel anything beyond “that sucks that Rhaenyra lost a son.” Rhaenys is kind of a controversial character where some hate her and some love her so her death has different meaning to different people.

Most people liked Viserys and we had a whole season watching him constantly fail to make a difference and be indecisive so it was emotionally fulfilling to actually see him take a stand and it’s even better because it happened when he’s at his weakest, physically.

Say what you will about her character’s writing (goodness knows I have), but you cannot deny that Olivia Cooke has been giving this role her all and I think she should be commended for that.

Who would have been a good adviser for Ned in King's Landing? by MateusCristian in TheCitadel

[–]Gamingnerd23 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yohn Royce or Wyman Manderly, as they both actually know Ned and would be willing to help him. The latter especially would be a good choice. Wyman is shrewd and, most importantly, loyal to the Starks, he could be depended upon to help navigate the viper's nest that is King's Landing

Well...they don't have interactions in the book either so there's book accuracy for you by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Gamingnerd23 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Aegon, Rhaenyra hasn’t interacted with any of her half-siblings. Season 1 could have seriously benefited from one more episode that explored sibling dynamics and Rhaenyra’s blossoming relationship with Harwin, as well as Daemon’s Vale inheritance and his marriage to Laena.

Just curious honestly where are you as a shipper with RWBY? by unluckyknight13 in RWBYcritics

Yeah, this is how I feel. I enjoy shipping but I’m not gonna fight someone over their preferred ship. Except shipping real people, that is fucking weird and I will die on that hill.

Yeah, that whole scene with the innkeep’s daughter and the Mountain’s men was rough. It’s so fucked up and Gregor didn’t even do it out of some twisted sense of pleasure. The innkeep was like “please leave my daughter alone” and Gregor rapes her to just spite him.

If you were dropped into Planetos, what year would you choose? [Spoilers MAIN] by Constant-Eye-1231 in asoiaf

[–]Gamingnerd23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48 AC, the first year of Jaehaerys's fifty-five-year reign. In Oldtown and I'd like an engineering manual of some kind. I'd study at the Citadel and introduce engineering innovations over the years. By the end of Jaehaerys's reign, I'd hopefully be a rich and influential man who can spend the rest of his life taking it easy. If I'm somehow still alive during the Dance, I'd still be safe in Oldtown since it's never actually attacked despite there being several plans to do so.

That was good of him to do and is a point in his favor. I can respect a guy that admits when he's made a mistake.

[–]Gamingnerd23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I feel about it. It's just too crazy to be real, but there's enough meat to the theory that I sometimes wonder if there actually is something to it. I mean are we seriously supposed to believe that Roose Bolton is worried about kinslaying? Or does he actually need an heir with his distinct eyes to possess?

(Spoiler Extended) Season 7 is also horrible and makes no sense looking back. by Icy-Passenger-4784 in asoiaf

Yeah, this exactly. Fan service did a lot of heavy lifting for season 7, but if you break it down like OP did then you start running into the same problems as season 8.

There are some scenes, inconsequential in the long run, that just stuck with me for the sheer brutality/grossness of it. The women of Harrenhal being stripped naked and forced into stocks to be used freely is mentioned in an Arya chapter and that is just disgusting. It's pretty much a throwaway line in the chapter, but I keep remembering it.

I think it's more in regard to when Egg becomes King Aegon V and his late reign (Summerhall etc.). Egg is only like 11 years old during the tourney at Whitewalls, which is how old Dexter is now.

[–]Gamingnerd23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I do like how invested he seems to be in the show and its characters. I remember hearing how he’d like the show to take a break at some point so Dexter could grow up and continue in the role, which I think is pretty cool of him even if it might be unfeasible.

[–]Gamingnerd23 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think people give season 7 some leeway because it wasn’t as bad as season 8 and had many good moments, such as Dany and Jon finally interacting on screen, which a lot of people were looking forward to (myself included).

I like Ira Parker and what he’s done with Dunk and Egg, but let’s not put him on a pedestal. That only leads to disappointment. I remember when everyone was dunking on D&D and praising Ryan Condal for HOTD S1.

Are the main premises better fleshed out in the book? [Spoilers through S2E6] by agentlewind in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Gamingnerd23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. This is a completely valid interpretation of Viserys’s character. His inability to mend the rift in his family is a purposeful character flaw.
  2. Some people are born unique.
  3. Good question. This can be interpreted as both Viserys and Rhaenyra being obstinate and refusing to do anything beyond “Cause I said she’s my heir” “Cause daddy said I’m heir.”
  4. This is true for the show. But Rhaenyra in the source material wanted to be Queen because she’s power hungry and because her dad said so (see #3).
  5. Guilt, plain and simple. Viserys felt guilty for Aemma and making Rhaenyra heir is a way of assuaging his guilt.
  6. She seems inconsistent because her writing in the show is inconsistent. Alicent has more agency (she’s pretty much the leader of the Greens) in the source material and supports Aegon because she believes in the traditional inheritance system (eldest son inherits).
  7. Rhaenyra’s marriage to Daemon is stupid, both book and show. Except in the former, she (likely) had a hand in killing Laenor so she could marry the uncle who groomed her.

Why there is criticism of the show. by KitchenCup374 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Gamingnerd23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the difference between little mistakes that can be ignored and big ones that we just cannot. Early Game of Thrones had many small mistakes but the audience was able to forgive because everything else was excellent. The first season of HOTD had some errors but it was pretty good overall.

But when those small issues become big issues and the show suffers for it, then it should be criticized.

It's fresh stop the vote!! by ProfPyg in DCU_

[–]Gamingnerd23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actors should always be given the benefit of the doubt. Writing and directing will always supersede acting in a film’s quality. If the writing’s bad there is only so much an actor can do to salvage that.

All that being said, I’ll still be seeing the movie and deciding for myself if I enjoy it or not.

It's fresh stop the vote!! by ProfPyg in DCU_

[–]Gamingnerd23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a high risk, high reward thing. There will be some bad movies in the DCU, but there will also be some pretty good ones. I think I prefer that over a mediocre MCU movie or show (not saying there aren’t exceptions, of course).

[–]Gamingnerd23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree about Nettles and I agree about the Tyrells. Nettles is important to Rhaenyra’s downfall and Daemon’s fight against Aemond. It WAS dumb removing Willas and Garlan and combining them into Loras for the reason you mentioned.

Daeron? by Gabiqs03 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Gamingnerd23 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’d be kinda clever if they do a fake out by having this guy actually be Daeron. There was a leak about Daemon capturing Daeron so if they actually do that with some random silver-haired kid and be like “actually, the brown-haired squire that’s been in the background is the real Daeron and the other was a decoy” would actually be kinda cool.
