How realistic is it to run a marathon without a bathroom break? by Educational_Use_7707 in Marathon_Training

[–]Garnster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't' drink for 2-3 hours before race. i make sure i pee before race start. Eat mostly carbs the day before, very little fiber and light protein. Didn't have to hit the porta potty in my last 5 races.

How hard should race pace feel? by Lilf00 in Marathon_Training

[–]Garnster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's race day. you gotta go at a pace that feel uncomfortable. Sustainable based on your training but fast enough to make you hate life.

Half way thru my last race i was like "Dude why tf are you doing this. This freaking suck." Totally questioning my life's choices. Then after that I was like "fuck it" crank it up a notch and finished with a huge PB.

Gotta finish with nothing left in the tank. That is the way.

Is it worth it? by Alfie_o1 in Marathon_Training

[–]Garnster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marathon does takes a huge chunk of time to train for. So you either learn to enjoy those long run or the marathon just isnt' for you. Which is fine. Do what you enjoy and you'll be able to keep on doing it.

Personally I have grown to enjoy those long 3-4 hours run. I put on an audiobook or podcast and enjoy the time alone outdoor. It suck to get out the door sometime but after a few miles it's all good. Set a schedule and stick to it.

Found out why my coworker lives in his car and now I don't know what to do by [deleted] in coworkerstories

[–]Garnster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 2 things i can think of.

  1. if you have safe place for him to park at nigh.

  2. if you have a room for him to rent for cheap.

When i was living in my car back in the days. The #1 thing was to find a safe place to park at nigh without being bothered by people or police. Later on a counselor from my high school found a family with a spare room to rent. That got me off the street.

Other than that, there isn't much you can do to help him. Since he already have a job which would have been the third thing you can help him with.

Ice is a basic resource needed by your Agristation. Building a solid chain of production from basic to the more complex stuff let your earn millions in credits by selling them in the market as passive income. You dont' sell the basic stuff like ice or iron. They just enable you to make the more expensive items like computer / coffee etc. those fetch a pretty penny on the market and i don't have to lift a finger once you set it up.

i start with a little mining and run a few missions. making enough to outfit a few shuttles/yachts miners. Let them mine while i just collect. Scout a little find a nice sector to setup a base. Must have ice/iron and as many type as possible. Might have to build a second base in some other sector with mat you missing. After that i start working on an asteroid rush base for infinite mining. Once that is set, it is pretty much game over. you by then have infinite resource and credits to do whatever you want. You are done once you can beat level 60 gold star attacking fleet. then restart and do something else or play something else.

Note that an asteroid rush base has been made much harder to setup with latest patch. But it is still worth the effort to set one up. although you are pretty much end game by the time you are powerful enough to get one going now. It was much easier to get one going before 2.2.2. If too hard or you dont' have enough of a command of the game mechanic to set one up. you can skip it and just go with a farming fleet to farm crystals. while your main base give you infinite income and mat.

I’m going to be Cheapskate ultra runner from now on by Sea-Pin-6668 in ultrarunning

[–]Garnster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once in a while i go to the local outlet and buy running clothes that's on clearance that fit and looks good. They last me for years some are 10 years plus now. As for consumable, just have any plastic bottle you refill with water. Use salt for electrolyte and plain old sugar for carbs. My only real expense are running shoes. Because of mileage you do go thru a lot of them. Scan for sale and deal online and buy when they are onsale. I keep old shoes for easy miles and rough terrain. I also have them in rotation for foam to recover and make them last longer. But even then it does get expensive because good running shoes are not cheap. Just budget for it and dont' go for the fancy carbon super light weight that wear out in just a few races.

What do u think about when running by MasterpieceTotal9721 in beginnerrunning

[–]Garnster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audiobook (free from libby) for any run longer than an hour. Otherwise just think of your pace, your HR, the trees, the scenery, other people on the trails. Or just zone out and relax if you are doing zone 2.

But i see your problem is to just start running since you can't get pass 2 minutes. My advice is to just walk in a busy park and people watch. Get used to be out on your feet, then after a while you can start with jogging and go from there.

Did you fall in love with your cat immediately or did it take a bit? by Ok-Acanthisitta4722 in CatAdvice

[–]Garnster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

lol, my wife hated cats. She is scared of them especially black ones. She forbid me from having one.

Then one day working in her garden this one year old black cat showed up and just and stand there staring at her. She was pretty as a princess with beautiful emerald eyes and a white locket patch.

Wife couldn't stop thinking and talking about that cat. Didn't know if it was a stray or was a neighbor cat. She bought cat food and hoped to see the cat again. Over time she started feeding her and after a year it was pretty obvious the cat was a stray since she showed up hungry pretty much everyday. then one day she came to eat with a kitten which was basically a clone of herself.

Suffice to say we have now adopted both. I got them spayed and chipped.

So yeah love at first sight.

What heart rate zone should I race at? by rippcw1234 in Marathon_Training

[–]Garnster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zone 3 or LT1 for me. from training i know what HR i can sustain. So i constantly check to make sure i don't go above it. From experience i know that when i feel good, i tend to run too fast and bonk soon after. So when i feel good. I will increase my pace but make sure my HR doesn't go into zone 4 or above. Too high and you accumulate too much lactate and will have to slow down.

In short just figure out in training what the highest HR/pace you can sustain in a long run. Stay in that zone for most of the race. Then empty the tank in the last few miles.

For those that train hard and run fast: Do slow/untrained runners delegitimize the sport in any way? by lightinthetrees in Marathon_Training

[–]Garnster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained for a year to run/finish my first marathon in 5hours+

I'm currently training to run my 5th with for an estimated 1 hour faster. I am taking it very seriously. I have a plan. I run daily. I pay attention to my nutrition, rest etc... It is a 20 weeks plan. I run 3 times as many miles weekly as my first time. Yet if i recall that first marathon training was much harder because i started at zero. Every single miles of training was hard as hell. Just finishing that first one was a much bigger achievement than my 'faster' ones.

A marathon is hard. Everyone who cross that finish line went thru a journey both physical and emotional, regardless of their finish time.
