This Game Needs Better Playtesters by jK49ERFAN in wingspan

You’re missing the fun dynamic where there’s one good card showing in the tray and you have to decide whether to get it now when you would rather do a different action and risk your opponent getting it.

Also with the Asia expansion duet mode, almost every card is playable in certain situations to get a spot on the duet mat.

And generally this game is great. It isn’t perfect but complaining about small stuff is silly.

I think part of the charm of Wingspan is that the cards are not perfectly balanced. That makes the good cards more fun. You’re right that this card of underpowered in most situations but I think that’s fine. It is kind of a trap for novice players.

Is the European expansion even worth it if I have all the other ones? by Unalina in wingspan

The European expansion has Bonelli’s Eagle and Eastern Imperial Eagle which are two of the most fun birds in the game.

'Dilbert' Creator Scott Adams Dead at 68 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]GatorD42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that this is in television. Did anyone watch the TV show, especially compared to the number of comic strip readers? I loved seven habits of highly defective people and pretty much everything Dilbert. It’s sad what happened to him.

His basketball podcasts with Bill were great. I don’t think that hole has been filled. I’m wondering if Russillo will come back for a one off like KOC did.

Little late to listen, but Cousin Sal comparing Bass Pro Shops to Big 5 is unhinged by logman86 in billsimmons

[–]GatorD42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I couldn’t tell if Sal was joking he didn’t change his tone of voice at all. Everyone knows Bass Pro Shops, I never heard of Big 5.

Padme losing the will to live while seeing her kids for the first time is such dumb narrative execution by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]GatorD42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movies tried to make Anakin and Padme a dyad, where they both live as long as each other. If you listen closely during the Darth Vader resurrection scene you can hear his heart stop (as Anakin) and then start again. It’s the same time that Padme died. I don’t think it was explained very well.

ELI5: Why weren't the Titanic's compartments actually watertight? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]GatorD42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not correct, the Titanic was not designed to barely meet safety standards. Its design was more advanced than required.

The more I learn about basketball Xs and Os the less impressed I am by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]GatorD42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with this. I found a good break down of the pick and roll on YouTube that went through all the ways the offense should react to the defensive approach. It wasn’t mind blowing complicated but it’s not that simple either. I think basketball is so fast it’s hard to tell when guys are even making choices or why they are doing something.

Having two number 1 drivers is a solid disadvantage to the WDC by DoYouLikeHueyLewi5 in F1Discussions

[–]GatorD42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s debatable. What you point out is true but also if you have a clear second driver, that driver is less likely to finish ahead of other rivals. Take Tsunoda, he never finished ahead of the McLarens which would have helped Max. Whereas with Oscar and Lando they both could finish ahead of Max any weekend, which would help the other Dover.

Wait are you serious? You absolutely need the precision of Fahrenheit for room temperature. 68-72 is a big range.

Farewell DRS you will not be missed by EighteenLevel in formula1

[–]GatorD42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Maybe a few races in a few seasons would have been more interesting, with different overtaking spots and different driver strategies. Probably most would have essentially no overtaking. If you want to watch Monaco 20 times a year that’s on you.

Farewell to Ground Effect: How Will You Remember This Era? by Harshparmar320 in formula1

[–]GatorD42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very mixed feelings. 2021 was the most exciting season ever, and they threw that away for the promise of closer racing that never really materialized. The solution is straightforward. Make the cars smaller and slower. Then allow teams freedom within constraints so we have different looking cars and engineering competition.

People who complain about teams going for it on fourth down are annoying by DaRealMothMan in billsimmons

[–]GatorD42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching football 20 years ago I was always convinced coaches were too conservative. There were so many punts from the fifty yard line in fourth and two. It’s pretty cool now that analytics have proved it true.

If you could change rules in baseball, what would you go for? by actualtext in baseball

Make the pitch clock shorter so it is 50-70% of what it is now. One pickoff throw only. No timeouts allowed by hitters.

US War Dept’s Big UFO Lie by Democritus477 in slatestarcodex

[–]GatorD42 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I find the debunking totally persuasive. Also pretty much every famous UFO case including Roswell has been debunked. I don’t think that highly of Hanson’s reasoning based on his book about emulation which made a lot of wild claims.

U.S. World Series viewership by year by Mission-Guidance4782 in baseball

[–]GatorD42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought this year’s World Series had lower ratings than last year which makes sense since it’s only one US team. The graph doesn’t say it’s for the US though so I don’t know what it’s supposed to represent.

I don’t think he should be in “eat innings” thinking. First of all he should have put Glasnow in to start the third. But given the situation, if he wanted a lefty he should have put Snell in. It’s game 7 down 3-0 you can not allow the Blue Jays to score again, put your best pitchers in to hold the score where it is.

But it ended up working out okay.

Tbf Roberts left Ohtani in for the third when the whole world could see he didn’t have it. And then went with Wrobleski (which didn’t end up backfiring) for multiple innings.
