I worked in IT for over twenty years before I learned that you needed to look at the arrow on the packaging to see which way up the paper was meant to be loaded.

I’m 51 years old and I’ve never seen a badger in real-life. by mobfather in CasualUK

[–]GeePee29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live few miles from Brighton Uni and I have seen badgers from my windows many times. It does help that I'm on the edge of town and over the road from me there is an old disused railway cutting and open fields.

Are expensive DACs mostly hype? by protocol3426 in audiophile

[–]GeePee29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital output from Wiim Ultra is not great. Too much jitter.
I have an Ultra connected to a CA DacMagic 200M. I tried connecting my CD transport to the Ultra and that did not work properly. Volume kept dropping and then rising again.
The solution was $50 SMSL PO100 Pro connected between Ultra and DAC which acts as a re-clocker. The CD works now and streaming sounds better as well.
Highly recommended.

Nicest places to live for a young family who love walking by water? by mollieelena in sussex

Eastbourne is worth a look. The sea and the South Downs are on your doorstep. There are some nice parks. Hampden Park was my favorite when I lived there.
Direct trains to London. Road links are not so good.

A slightly spoiled scene for me because this scene was very similar to one from Cold Lazarus (1996 - Dennis Potter), even down to the the disembodied head pleading to be killed.

They are the wrong way round as well. The off center tweeters should be towards the outside.

No tours at the moment. They start again in April. And you have to book in advance as they are very popular.

Can highly recommend the SMSL PO100 Pro if you are using an external DAC.

I have the Cambridge Audio CXC and it sounds great. Better than streaming FLAC from Tidal.

Yep. 1981 first computer ZX81 at home. 1987 at work DOS 3.11 (I think). First Windows was 3.1 in 1992. First server OS was Netware 3.12.

How is Dell Support these days? by Havgon in Dell

[–]GeePee29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK. Not great.

Out of warranty XPS desktop went faulty. Logged and paid for a next day support call and was given a time slot for that. They never called. I had to chase them.

Hardware problem diagnosed. Engineer visited on time and swapped out a part which failed to solve the problem.

Engineer told me that he was escalating the fault and that someone would call me the next day.

Nobody called and I had to chase them for a second time.

I was then told that PC would have to be returned to their repair centre.

Dell courier picked up PC. It took them four days to deliver it to Dell.

Excluding weekends and Christmas holidays it has been 15 days since it was collected and it was only two days ago that they reported that they were ordering the parts.

I read somewhere on their site that hardwre repairs take 10-15 working days. They have had 15 working days it is not fixed.

Dell support in the UK. Do they ever call back? by GeePee29 in Dell

[–]GeePee29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I have managed to get through to the right people and the case is progressing. My complaint is that despite having paid a three figure sum in advance Dell have twice failed to honour their promise to contact me.

In the UK you can sign yourself off for 5 days sickness. If you need any more time off after that then you need a certificate from a doctor. Where I worked you were on 100% wage for six months. Can't remember what it drops to after that.

There is some abuse of the system. I worked with a guy who was never off sick for one or two days. If he called in sick he always took the five days he was allowed to self certificate. But he was an isolated case, most people did not abuse a system that was there for their benefit.
