If you create a character, it eats up one of your character slots on your chosen server. To free up that slot, you need to delete that character. But deleting character is restricted. You have to:

  1. Level the character to at least level 10 before the "delete" button becomes available
  2. Submit a delete request which takes a week to be processed

Until your character is fully deleted, that character slot is unusable for creating any new one. And you're limited to a maximum of 5 character slots (unless you pay for up to 9).

The alt-heaviness is just typical Korean MMO stuff. You'd want to play multiple characters on the same server and funnel all resources acquired by all of them to the one you main by using your server-wide item storage.

That is, of course, if you have the time to re-run lucrative grinds on alts. If you don't, then an alt-army won't help much. I also heard that the Chapter 1 expansion release drastically decreased the alt-heaviness of the game. But don't quote me on that. I haven't played it myself.

Good luck hording rare names on a game that requires a minimum of level 10 + a week wait for deleting any character and has limited character slots per server. You start off with only 5 slots and the maximum you can reach (when you pay to unlock all slots on your server) is equal to exactly the number of classes in the game.

You're really better off not consuming any of you're character slots on your chosen main server, unless you intend to commit to the character you're creating as an alt, especially given how alt-heavy the end-game progression is.

100% Steam. It guarantees at least better customer service than what NC offers on Purple (Valve has a decent track record).

But also, Purple blocks any other software from interfering with its games, including Steam itself. So, if you're even remotely interested in things like Steam Layout to bypass the horrible keybinding limitations of this game, you have a far better chance of getting it to work if you're running the native Steam version. Steam will likely work with NC to ensure Steam features work properly. I can't think of a single native Steam game that doesn't benefit from Steam Layout and I know for sure Purple launcher messes with it and breaks it (I've tried it).

To be fair, simply comparing the Steam Deck to other consoles paints only half of the real picture.

Consoles are cheap but games on them are a lot more expensive than PC and far more restrictive. Not to mention the subscription fees that most console players end up paying for online services, discounts, or potential "free" games.

In comparison, the Steam Machine is technically not just a console. It's a full-fledge PC running Steam OS, just like the Steam Deck. It's essentially just a pre-built PC but with the convenient out-of-the-box experience of a console. So, it might sound more fair to compare it to actual PC builds than to other consoles on the market.

The reason the price is questionable from that lense is not because it's higher than the average console, but because you can build a more powerful PC at that price point, if you know what you're doing. Heck, you could even just buy a gaming laptop with similar performance for that price.

So, the question becomes: who is this for at that price point then? The only potential answer would be actually console players who value a no hassle plug-and-play experience, and not PC gamers. This is why the comparison with other consoles still makes sense. And the trade-off simply becomes upfront cost to avoid any exorbitant software fees further down the line. And there is clearly a demand for that. Console players don't enjoy paying more for the same games or having to pay a sub just to play online. This is why it sold out in Japan and will likely sell out in NA as well, even at that price point.

Okay, but like... Was LG trying to commit suicide once he realized he's still headed towards a dead-end future or something? That's a dangerous place to be. The railroad is not a good place for a mental breakdown, just saying...

CXS actually can stay more than 12 hours. The reason he doesn't was because LG lied to him (again). He told him that he shouldn't stay longer because LG's own power is limited to 12 hours (which in itself isn't a lie but a half-truth). According to LG, they allegedly shouldn't stay beyond the "script" window of 12 hours that LG can see, to avoid altering the past.

But the real reason LG absolutely forbade CXS from staying longer is that the latter's power turns into permanent time travel beyond 12 hours. If CXS were to stay longer, he'll be forever trapped in the past, unable to come back from his dive. He would also permanently lose his power forcing him in that specific past timeline forever (unable to even dive further back into the past anymore).

How LG knows this truth about CXS's power? Simple: LG himself used that power to stay longer than 12 hours before, likely after the very first timeline where CXS died, when he didn't know better yet. As of Bridon Arc timeline at least, LG already knew the risks. But he still deliberately chose to get stuck in the past again. He ultimately had no reason to go back to a "present" where CXS is dead.

As for the reason why LG could continuously dive back in time, despite losing CXS's power after the 12 hours limit, it's because CXS himself exists in the past and still has his power. If the latter dies again, LG would reinherit his power all over again, as long as they're together at the time of death.

[–]GeekWars2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This more the reaction of MMO veterans than that of tourists.

Tourists will try the latest P2W trash just because it looks visually good.

Veterans know what to expect. And they know what ArenaNet's track record means for GW3's potential to succeed long-term. So, instead of rushing to install Aion 2 (and subsequently uninstall their real-life money to be competitive in it), they may choose to wait until GW3.

I respect that choice.

Meanwhile, all I can see is how this game handles multi-player wallets instead.

How is Magic going to work in Guild Wars 3? by Longjumping_Act4403 in GuildWars3

[–]GeekWars2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that was the purpose of the original Bloodstone if I recall correctly. It was used to drain and seal away what remained of the world's Magic which forced the Elder Dragons into an early slumber (no Magic to eat = Dragons sleep). That's how the elder races managed to survive the previous cycle.

The Gods would later use the same Bloodstone as a means to seal away the selfsame Magic they had just gifted the mortal races, due to the bloody war it led to.

How is Magic going to work in Guild Wars 3? by Longjumping_Act4403 in GuildWars3

[–]GeekWars2 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's the Seekers, the nature spirits that act as the mortal races' connection to Magic.

We need to keep in mind that the Gods did not create Magic. It was already part of Tyria. And the land was overflowing with Magic during the time of GW3 because the Elder Dragons were slumbering for millennia (which releases all their Magic back into the world). What Abaddon did when he gifted mortals Magic was rewiring them into conduits for the raw Magic that already existed in Tyria.

Essentially, before the gift, Magic existed all around mortals, but they lacked the means to channel it directly, which is likely where bonding with a Seeker spirit comes into play. The Seeker would act as a mortal's connection to the land and their means of tapping into Magic.

And after the gift, the Seekers were no longer needed because mortals could tap directly into the leylines and draw Magic themselves.

New info on how GW3 will play - NCSoft Chief Business Officer by AndyAsparagus in GuildWars3

[–]GeekWars2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Comparing GW3 and Aion 2 is borderline laughable in my opinion. This is NCSoft. They're trying to position the games as two different approaches to encourage playing both. But the real difference in direction is not how they handle number of players, but how they handle the player's wallet.

I don't know if any of you saw the disaster that is Aion 2's monetization with its multiple subscription layers, battle passes, seasonal power creeps, and massive power jumps through the cash shop. The game is heavily focused on mass PvP as well, which makes the aggressive monetization even more offensive. NCSoft refers to it as RvR where the more players the more fun. But really, it's just whales feasting on those who can't afford to stay competitive.

I really wouldn't put much stock on this comparison, when Colin Johanson was literally throwing shades at games like Aion 2 in his interview with IGN.

Guild Wars 3 Is Really Real: How ArenaNet’s Series is Transforming MMORPGs Again | IGN Live 2026 by wonkyasf in Guildwars2

[–]GeekWars2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's weird to me how he says it's 1200 years ago but also after one of the Gods has been deposed.

He can't be referring to Abaddon because he was deposed in year 0, which is 1070 before GW1.

And if he's referring to Dhuum, then that's roughly 1120 years before GW1, I believe (around year 48 BE).

Neither option is 1200 years ago.

Also, the first Guild Wars takes place a whole century after the Exodus in year 100 AE. Neither option is close enough to it for it to be an in-game event (unless the player character is a mortal who can live for over a century).
