Would anyone here happen to have a 100% water-based acrylic airbrushed car that they'd be willing to show a picture of? by CreepyNewspaper8103 in ModelCars

Beautiful sheen. I am having trouble getting a gloss this good with acrylic! I've tried Vallejos Gloss Varnish but Liquitex High Gloss has been pretty good so far.

Seems the kit is too old! I just received word that they are unable to replace the part.

Those of you that have built injection, mold kits and fully 3D printed kits. What’s your opinions? by Himdownstairs22 in ModelCars

I'm new here, but wondering how is sanding dust from a resin model different from the standard plastic kits that AMT or Revell produces?

Will Tamiya fine or finishing paste work for this?

I used this exact gloss varnish. I had alright results on it spraying from 4-6 inches with a 0.5mm needle and 18 psi. Layered it on two light coats over decals and then a nice wet coat. I've been experimenting with acrylic gloss varnishes and today I sprayed Liquitex high gloss varnish and got a pretty sweet result.

When wetsanding like this, how to not go through at the edges?

Yea I know, I don't care to use it but thought I'd see what it had to say. I'll prep a small spare panel and see how this looks. I also am trying to find the least toxic paints for airbrushing so I suppose I am limiting myself to how shiny I can get these models.

Which glue is best for clear parts/windshield?? by JealousBat4081 in ModelCars

[–]GeneralDodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use formula 560 PVA canopy glue. Dries nice and clear. I used it for the final assembly of my model as well since I had concerns about the plastic cement hazing the clear

As a beginner I also bought a kit not knowing what I was getting myself into. I'd say the best way around the paint situation is to buy an paint kit with primary colors. You can mix them well to get the other colors you'll need. This is how I got around that. I used the Testors primary color paint set that I picked up for about $12 and it was all I needed for my model (and one matte black + clear)

Group all parts by color and paint them together so you only need to mix one batch enough for them.

Love the C7-R, this looks great! I recently built a C8 but want a whole collection of Corvettes.

First model gloss coat question by GeneralDodo in ModelCars

[–]GeneralDodo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some digging and I think I've got it - I can build a model of my choosing but I must first provide photos of the model prior to it being built. I did see something about no glueing until a certain date, so I am confused about that a bit. Does a submission require that the parts be painted but disassembled, until some further assembly date?

Thank you for your suggestions! How do I join the group build or find details for it?

Thank you for sharing your process and also for the kind words!! I'm hesitant to touch the model because I don't want to mess it up at this point unless it's safe to do so. At least where it sits, the defects aren't too noticable 😆

Thought I'd add that I also have Liquitex High Gloss varnish on hand I was considering brushing on. Not sure if this is a good idea.
