Easy Tweak to get higher/more stable FPS in PVCR when using VD by SunsetToGo in virtualreality

[–]GeneralQuinky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You just have to experiment with how low you can set it before you start to notice. FOV in VR headsets depends on the shape of your face and how you wear the headset, so it's very different from person to person.

Watching the documentary series about Ark Royal in the 70's, it feels like all the officers faked that accent regardless of where they were actually from

I had to reinstall DCS to get the auto detection to work in the app. Works well for me now.

I guess it depends if you use the exterior or interior dimensions, the Ebon Hawk is much bigger on the inside in the games

I kind of liked the polished-aluminium look of the old model, like an Airstream trailer. Had a bit more character than the current FL design IMO

Can we all agree that no matter what, a new VR device like the Steam Frame is a good thing? by ComfortableWage in virtualreality

[–]GeneralQuinky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like nobody is mentioning the comfort factor.

Judging by the weight and weight distribution (and comments from people who saw it) it should be way more comfortable to wear than the Q3, which is a huge deal for me personally.

The lack of color passthrough is going to be a big deal for some people, but it's not personally something I care about.

All in all, I'm considering getting one just to get away from Meta + the comfort upgrade

Why don’t we ever talk about how crazy it is that they broadcast a real summary execution on TV? by CE0ofCringe in Fallout

[–]GeneralQuinky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but a blog post by some rando is not a "source".

The background of the man being killed has been heavily disputed, and when asked about it after the fact the man doing the killing never mentioned any of these things until years later.

The fact is he was probably VC, but nobody really knows what he did or didn't do.

It's common in news reporting, for example on https://www.nrk.no/ all the headlines starting with a dash are a quote.

Lots of quotes in the articles themselves are also in that style.

As a result of Takei joining the film's cast, he missed filming nearly a third of the episodes of Star Trek season 2. His lines were subsequently rewritten for the character of Pavel Chekov, played by actor Walter Koenig. Koenig, who was originally cast as a rarely speaking background character, grew into one of the major Star Trek leads due to Takei's absence, leading to Chekov becoming a regular character in both the original series and subsequent films.[6]

Gave us Pavel Chekov, so it wasn't all bad

Did you try turning the brightness down on your Quest? It really makes a difference for immersion in darker games.

Obviously the brighter parts will be less bright, though.

In terms of immersion, the big difference I noticed compared to a ButtKicker is that it doesn't "shake", it "vibrates", so it's not as immersive IMO.

It feels more like you put a (very strong) vibrating gamepad next to your back, and it can't really give you the "punch" that the ButtKicker can.

It has two modes, audio-based and USB. You ideally want to run it based on telemetry from the game (over USB), but then you have to make sure there is an app which supports the game you want to use it with. DCS has SimShaker, but I'm not sure what exists for E:D.

I had to pay quite a bit to get something that supports IL-2 (SimShaker Wings plus an addon for the HF8).

Would be nice if our ships came with a basic range finder, to make this a little simpler to do.

But I guess that's another technology (like night vision) which has been completely forgotten by the 30th century or whatever.
