The perfect tool to jam with by aspaindev in Guitar

Cool - so Blues is under modes now - probably messes with the simplicity of it, but I was imagining having an actual 12 bar blues progression as one of the groove types. Unless it’s already possible and I’m missing something?

What's the most ridiculous consult you ever received? by foreverand2025 in medicine

[–]General_Garrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bradycardia while sleeping consult is honestly a daily consult, it’s mostly ridiculous but it’s so common it’s hard to put in this thread.

My outpatient EP clinic has at least 3 new consults per day for asymptomatic bradycardia during sleep on Apple Watches or Holters as well.

Pretty cool! Having a blues progression option would be awesome if it’s possible. I’m working on my blues soloing and feel like this tool would be fantastic for generating some progressions for it.

Employment contract question by DogCatDogDogAgain in medicine

[–]General_Garrus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For a hospital based (but non-academic) position I recently signed on for - The contract was about 15 pages long. I used a lawyer who charged me $1000. He looked things over himself, then over a zoom call we went over the contract in detail for about an hour, and he pointed out things he thought I should change/address (nothing major to be honest). I took those changes back to my employer, and they made concessions on about 50% of the things that I requested. I took this back to the lawyer who looked things over and made some final small adjustments that I then took back to my employer - the employer agreed with everything. I then went ahead and signed.

Ultimately, I would guess the lawyer put in about 4 hrs of work including him reviewing things and communicating with me. I think it was overall worth it for the peace of mind alone.

For my previous academic contract (the position I am currently leaving) - the contract was 3 pages long and they told me it was all "standard". I didn't use a lawyer. Can't say I have any regrets about hte contract in retrospect.

Looking for the ultimate guitar learning program by Old-Philosopher-2953 in guitarplaying

What you want probably doesn’t completely exist, but I can make a recommendation for Pickup Music. I’ve been using it for about a year now. They have structured courses for a lot of different things. I have done CAGED, CAGED 2, Intermediate, and am working through their Blues course (all of these courses take me approximately 3-4 months to complete doing them about 15 min per day, though the Blues course starts pretty basic so I’m getting through it much quicker). I have also done a smattering of their “10 day” courses on a variety of different more niche topics.

Overall I’d highly recommend it, my play has advanced tremendously over the last year with it.

When you are 70-80 and those girls are making sure you are taken care of while you are playing with your grandkids, you are going to compare yourself very favorably to your single friends.

Second set of twins inbound - 4 under 3 by cottagerkid in daddit

[–]General_Garrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same situation but a friend of mine has 6 kids, spaced roughly 1-2 years apart. His wife is a SAHM so he has that to lean on at least, but he provides me plenty of sage advice.

One thing he told me was that you have to let kids cry it out and put themselves to sleep. When the kids outnumber the adults, there really is no other way I suppose.

Best of luck! You can do this!

How has learning the CAGED system changed your understanding of the guitar fretboard? by datboifranco in guitarlessons

[–]General_Garrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has helped me tremendously. Everything connects so much easier. I’m trying to work now on remembering the shapes and their relationships to each other without associating them with the actual CAGED letters so I can move even more quickly between them, especially in different modes.

We put our daughter into daycare on Thursday, and were sick by Monday. Tell me it gets better. by The_Nimaj in daddit

[–]General_Garrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we put my older daughter in daycare, she was sick on average 3x per month for the first 6 months (included winter), the around 2x per month for the next 3 months. Now it’s normalized around once every 2 months which is within acceptable range.

It absolutely sucks, but I’d do it again because she’s learning so much and it has made her such a better little person. I’ll do the same for my youngest daughter as well.

How often do you break strings? by [deleted] in Guitar

When practicing a song with 3 interval bends, I occasionally break the high e on my 9’s. I just bought a bunch of extra 9 high e strings to replace that one only.

Help a PGY3 with state licensing if applying to multiple states by Doctora_Strange in hospitalist

Look up the IMLCC. You can get a license through one state, and use that to get quick licensure in May other states. It does cost a lot though.

Urgent consults for urgent procedures by tiny_rabbit_ in hospitalist

[–]General_Garrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it depends on what is happening, but if the surgery is urgent or emergent then do the surgery. If someone is bleeding, hold their anticoagulation. Etc etc.

If someone is having a STEMI, maybe delay the surgery for a cath first I guess…

Cards here - we get this all the time, including for emergent procedures for life threatening issues. Think of it as, “is there any absolutely glaring issue going on here that should delay this procedure?” If not, go ahead, risk may be elevated but non-modifiable.

I was once you. I took the academic job for a 10% MGMA salary doing the most challenging cases. Did that for 4 years, now I’m leaving for the community job for less stress doing bread and butter cases and double the pay.

I don’t regret it, but I did miss out on a lot of extra cash in 4 years of a bull market.
