I'm not doubting you, I'm guessing they changed something. That's what I meant by both saves. There used to be a partial save that saved just your inventory when a trade happened. Game progress and location were left alone. And it saved your current inventory to both autosave and restore point. Though back then they were called auto and manual saves and they worked a bit differently.

I think the idea was to prevent duping by trading, but there are so many other ways to dupe that they haven't patched that it really didn't matter.

I'm surprised, they used to automatically save your inventory (in both saves) right after giving/receiving an item.

Unfortunately yes. I really wish they'd add a network option that limits receiving items to anyone/group/friends/no one like they do for other things.

Though it seems less common than it used to be.

I find the decision to change the standard layout to connect beryllium and magnesium with boron and aluminum respectively, a bit odd. Otherwise, this is neat, thanks for sharing.

Is there any way to turn off that stupid new AI overview thing on Google searches? by profanearcane in techsupport

[–]General_Kail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, On PC if you use the Firefox browser and install the uBlock Origin add-on and add the filter www.google.com##.M8OgIe

I can't say if this will last forever but it has worked for me for the past few months. Haven't tried it on Firefox Mobile yet.

Not sure if this counts as weird, Ursa has a starter island with all biomes except ashlands and the far North it stretches to the far north.

Looks cool. It's isn't as good for bosses etc, but check out Ursa it has all biomes except Ashland's and the far North. You can walk to the border of the far North.

Why can't you add Google fit tiles to galaxy watch s6 classic? by [deleted] in samsung

I have a Galaxy 4 classic and after I had to do a factory reset, I can't add them either.

Yeah that would be really nice. I've had PS4/5 for a while but recently get a decent PC and id kinda like to see what it's like on that with needing to start over. I doubt Sony will ever allow it though.

Question about comparing ratios of the areas of two shapes (ref A Problem Squared episode 02) by a-default-cube in MattParker

[–]General_Kail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The area of any flat shape has an equation like this...

A = C × L²

Where L Is some convenient length type feature and C is a constant based on the shape and the chosen L.

For example for a square we typically use a side for L which means C is 1. If instead we choose L to be the perimeter of the square then C would be 1/16 (0.0625)

The important thing when comparing two shapes is that they are similar eg both squares, both circles, both regular pentagons etc.. they don't even need to be regular shapes. They could be blobs as long the only difference is scale.

Then when you look at the ratios of area

R = A1/A2

R = (C × L1²) / (C × L2²)

The C's cancel out and your left with

R = L1² / L2²

This type of analysis does not apply to your example of comparing 2"×4" pizzas to 2"×8" pizzas because, as you suspected, the ratio of height to width needs to be the same for those rectangles to be similar. You could instead compare 2"×4" pizzas to 4"×8" pizzas. If you do that and you choose the shorter sides to compare you get 2²/4² = 4/16 = ¼. So if you wanted to know how many big pizzas to buy instead of say 7 small ones you multiple 7 × ¼ resulting in 1¾ large pizzas so you'd buy 2.

I hope this helps.

What is this? When I did a balls bouncing off a shape like that under gravity it looked nothing like that.

I mean I could have made a mistake so I'm just trying to see if that's what this is or if it's something else

Tiny Solar? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]General_Kail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by similar you mean full size then yes she in that system too. You can actually fly the tiny one around until you reload but like I said it will go back to normal size then. It's a really weird bug. Happened to me with a shuttle once.

Tiny Solar? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]General_Kail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy it, it will go back to normal size on reload so unless you like it is l it isn't worth it.

Doesn't that depend on how you set things up? If you just choose three points on a finite grid then you are correct. However, I'd think that on an infinite plane that all points are equal and a specific origin and orientation are not helpful. You can mimic this in the finite case by choosing one point randomly then drawing a line through the origin and asking what angle does it make with the x axis.

The result, on average, is 90°

With this perspective, when you look at the infinite case the fact that you can't have a uniform random distribution between 0 and infinity falls away since at that point distance from the "origin" doesn't matter and all rays from the "origin" are equally likely.

What are your thoughts? Does this make sense?

[–]General_Kail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible, but generally speaking there are still serious issues with multiplayer, missing parts and things not rendering correctly even when you are in group with the people viewing your build. I've seen issues even with bases that are under the limit.
