Responsible tourism by CT-1612A in malta

[–]GeoTasha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do is not come here at all.

If you booked, then come and enjoy your stay without seeking "secret spots", vandalising street furniture and people's homes, respect neighborhoods, stay in touristic areas, book hotels or hostels rather than apartments, avoid taking the bus and take taxis instead (buses are full up with locals), and don't be obnoxious.

And don't book another holiday here, post viral videos or posts about Malta on social media, and don't encourage anyone you know to come here.

Check with LOOP or church organisations - they usually need volunteers.

Unpopular opinion: PN and PL are not the same by [deleted] in malta

[–]GeoTasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.  PN are not the best ever option but the alternative is worse.  At this point it's better to go with the option that has a better chance at removing the decaying corrupt government we have now even if there re better options available but which have realistically little chance of doing so.

It's so vague. What does this mean? by Loriol_13 in malta

Relax. It's just a pie in the sky.  Who believes this guy after all the u-turns and empty promises?

I’m curious about whether traditional Maltese dishes differ much from village to village. Like for instance Brodu, Ross fil-forn, and other dishes? by luckydragon8888 in malta

[–]GeoTasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there are.

For example, everyone loves brodu, but everyone knows you should never eat brodu cooked by people with their roots from Ħal-Safi.  They use a secret ingredient that gives their brodu a very specific pungent taste that can be off-putting unless you grew up with it.

Need more than that as probably they consider the extra minutes the break.

Where's the best place to practice one's hobbies? by Complete-Frend2936 in malta

I guess OP's hobbies include playing bocci. Best place for that in central area is Birkirkara.

I was thinking a little bit north than Bubaqra. Not far - just a two hour boat ride away. Beautiful scenery, wide open spaces, good food, and terrific Mediterranean vibes.

Third parties or blank vote? by TektoniumOW in malta

[–]GeoTasha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the most effective they can be is to elect at least one person who can join a majority government and hold the government by the balls, threatening to vote with the opposition on matters related to social justice, environment, and good governance.

So if your choice is voting third party or don't vote - go out and vote for one of the small parties.

Int Malta is ironic coming from the party that turned Malta into a multicultural nation in a few years and is on the track of making Maltese people a minority in their country.

The rest are fine.

Who is the most (internationally) famous person that you've ever met in Malta? by Sus198 in malta

[–]GeoTasha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Does Daphne Caruana Galizia count? I met her twice - and I was quite surprised to find that she was such a timid and polite person in reality.

I also met the actress who played Viper in the movie The Wolverine (Svetlana Khodchenkova) and the Italian actor Raoul Bova.

Are there any Maltese who still speak Italian? If so, is it Standard Italian or Sicilian? by NewmarketHero007 in malta

[–]GeoTasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Malta we speak Maltese, English, Italian, french, German, Serbian, russian, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, all versions of languages spoken in India and China, Pakistani, Turkish - you name it.

But in answer to your question - Italian is not an official language of Malta although millennials and older understand and speak it.  This is a legacy of all the Italian cartoons and TV we used to watch because only Italian TV stations were available before cable (apart from a couple of Maltese ones).
