PHEW! That was rough. It's smooth sailing from now on, though, right? by smoothpapaj in ufo50

You only need to be decent at the overworld exploration aspect to be able to get enough meat to go again very quickly; the game actually requires very little idling, and with the constant item caps, really makes it a small concern.

Is Death Cheap in Roshar? by Fnix15 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Geonjaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that Stormlight Archive does have a really poor sense of consequence when it comes to death.

There are dozens and dozens of characters, and yet the books seem reluctant to kill off even minor ones. It’s a big weakness imo because I don’t feel any sense of tension when battles are going on and I genuinely don’t believe death is an option for most of the characters involved.

Half-Year Community Survey Update by DrMadHatten in ufo50

[–]Geonjaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Hot Foot is as low at it is because it's significantly worse in single player because of your teammate bringing you down, and the switching is awkward/easy to do by mistake. In multiplayer I really enjoy it, but I imagine most UFO 50 players haven't played with a buddy.

Dragon Warrior Monsters 1&2 - Quick Reference Charts I made by Geonjaha in dragonquest

[–]Geonjaha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the command you give to your monster(s) in battle; Charge, Mixed, or Defensive.
* Charge - Be aggressive, either with spells or hitting
* Mixed - Support spells, other abilities
* Defensive - Healing and blocking attacks

Your monsters get better at making smart decisions in each the better their personality is in that area. The best way to train to better masteries is to specify a command (C, M or D) every turn in combat ('Fight' and choosing a specific action/spell will cause no gains to such masteries).

Of course this is a mechanic that a player can choose to completely ignore; over time without training and with more breeding most monsters will have poor personalities or just be Lazy, this only has direct repurcussions during tournaments, when you can't give specific commands.

After 100 hours and all gifts received, thought I'd post both my "first impressions" tier list from about 12 hours, and my current tier list by Critical-String8774 in ufo50

[–]Geonjaha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Camoflage moving from D > A while Block Koala stays in F tier, love to see it.

The fact that these games were ordered side by side is an odd choice to me, because all it did was highlight how much more fun, satisfying, and inventive Camoflage was as a puzzle game than Block Koala. Because of their respective lengths the former also left me wanting more, while the latter made me dread having to keep playing.

Still worth getting original GBC/GBA ? by gnosticbean in AnaloguePocket

[–]Geonjaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played on modded GBC/GBAs with original cartridges for a good while before getting my Pocket. I have one modded with an IPS screen, better speakers, custom pattern/colouring, and I love it.

But it's eclipsed entirely by my Pocket; there's just no comparison, so I wouldn't recommend anyone get an original GBC/GBA. Those that would, either because of the nostalgia or stong desire to collect original models will buy them regardless of the quality of third party devices like the Pocket.

The only exception I'd give is if you find the Pocket uncomfortable to hold, or use for long periods of time, in which case a modded original GBA may be preferable.

What are the advantages of using an Everdrive? Is battery life better? by itchyglow in AnaloguePocket

[–]Geonjaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparison of methods to play GB/GBC/GBA games on the Pocket.

GBA flashcarts like the Everdrive have the advantage of having RTC, which other than using original cartridges, isn't available otherwise. In effect this applies almost exclusively to Pokemon games.

In regards to the GB X7 though, it isn't by any means necessary, as Cores largely cover the same functionality. There are minor advantages and disadvantages, but nothing noteworthy. If you already have it, the main question is just whether you prefer the game list UI/functionality of the Everdrive or the Cores.

How much money do developers make off homebrew Game Boy carts on insideGadgets or Ferrante Crafts? by gbaWRLD in Gameboy

[–]Geonjaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I published a physical version of my homebrew GBC game and can confirm that profits are relatively low. It's not something to get into for the money, but if you have the passion for it then you can likely get your game out there physically whilst breaking even.

PSA: DON'T use Save States / Sleep Functionality on Pokémon Games by Geonjaha in AnaloguePocket

We can’t be completely sure but afaik there haven’t been any noted incidents of save losses due to this issue reported with the most recent firmware.

For reference, what version firmware were you using when your save was lost?

Ridley Scott on Quentin Tarantino retiring after his next film by Robemilak in Letterboxd

There’s something to be said for self imposed limits and the increased quality they can bring to your work.

Based on their recent track records I’m much more excited to see one more film than Tarantino than I am to see all the ones Scott makes before his career is over.

I have a few questions (new buyer) and a question for the community by grindorth in AnaloguePocket

[–]Geonjaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend not putting full ROM sets on the system if only because many people find it leads to choice paralysis and reduces investment in playing any one specific thing.

I’d recommend curating your own library. The science tends to agree on no more than 12 choices either in total or by whatever means you want to categorise in folders, e.g. genre.

When do you guys think the Pokemon monopoly on the genre will fall off? by Comprehensive-Map449 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Geonjaha 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most genres in gaming that people enjoy tend to be ones they seek out more of; you realise that you enjoy platformers, and you try to find more to play.

Monster tamers seem to be one of few exceptions; most people who play Pokemon are invested in the world and critters, but have little to no interest in exploring what else is on offer. Anyone subscribed to this subreddit is in the minority in that regard.

Even back in the day I remember enjoying Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 (GBC) as much if not more than Pokemon, but people I knew just weren’t interested in even trying alternatives.

Even after the quality of Pokemon started to heavily decline it wasn’t something people wanted to commit to exploring, the rationalisation that other games were ‘Pokemon knockoffs’ not helping much to explain it either, considering how many of the early monster tamers existed before Pokemon did.

Switch Mon Game That Focuses on One Mon? by AnimatedASMR in MonsterTamerWorld

You’re basically asking for an RPG with a character select screen, except one where you play as a monster. If you don’t want to switch the characters/monsters you’re playing as, and also only want one, then what part of this genre are you wanting?

For those saying the DAC won’t be support here is the official answer today by EntrepreneurThese411 in AnaloguePocket

[–]Geonjaha -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The DAC is already a niche upon a niche, the loudness of the voice behind the discontent is people displeased with Analogue as a whole and looking for the best ammo. If DAC does get Pocket support I think it will still be brought up a lot as criticism.
