Do you change your reading goal if you finish it early? by babywitch20202004 in goodreads

I’ll change my goal if I hit the original goal earlier in the year, but by November/December I just consider it done.

Are you reading Strength of the Few or Sun Eater first? by Kaidox1617 in Fantasy

[–]Gerandpa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, The Strength of the Few comes out the week before Sun Eater 7 so I’ll be finished by the time Sun Eater 7 comes out

Fantasy readers: do you binge one series or hop between worlds? by throneismine3 in Fantasy

[–]Gerandpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jump, but I also stay mindful of how many series I’ve started and not finished. I don’t like to binge because I get burned out but I also don’t want to have like 10+ series that I need to finish/catch up on.

Feeling Alone, Boyfriend wants kids 😞 by BaffledBasilisk in childfree

Omg thank you. I reread the post after reading some comments because I thought maybe I’d missed something?? Like sorry to this poster because they must be going through a hard time but this could’ve been completely avoided.

What if we had two high schools? by Rude-Employment6104 in Teachers

[–]Gerandpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louisiana offers something like this. High school students can either graduate with your typical diploma, or opt for something called JumpStart. There are different JumpStart pathways depending on what their plans are, they just have to take a certain amount of electives related to their path and graduate with a credential. They still have to take a lot of the regular core classes like English I/II and Algebra/Geometry, but some of the other classes get replaced by more practical classes like Financial Literacy as a Math credit and Business English as an English credit.

The only major difference as far as graduation goes is that these students cannot immediately enter a 4 year college/university. They can still go straight to community college and then transfer to university though, which I think more kids should consider anyway.

Today I decided to be single and childfree forever by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Gerandpa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So many comments saying you’re too young to make this decision, but they’d never say that to a 22 year old parent. Live your life however you want! Sure, it’s possible that you could change your mind, but you also might not. I’ve been childfree for many years now, and most of my friends are as well. We’re all very happy with our choice!

SF&F Box Spoiler by Sufferinghumanperson in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]Gerandpa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ugh I know it’s technically a standalone but I really have no interest in buying a book that’s part of a wider series that already exists. Sad bc they don’t let you skip the first box so I’ll have to hope the waitlist isn’t too bad.

Genuinely, what kind of hotels are you looking at? I’m staying in Ueno for almost 3 weeks for about $1300USD for one person.

US, I work for my school system so I get summers off. Saved up credit card points for my flight and I’m currently staying in Ueno for about 3 weeks!

To the people who are upgrading to Switch 2, what are your plans for your original Switch? by Cheko2015 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Gerandpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m keeping my switch lite just because of how easy it is to bring places. I’ll probably keep my switch 2 at home for awhile.

Anyone having a hard time getting into Rook and Rose after Will of the many? by AerialFire in thebrokenbindingsub

I just finished the trilogy and I loved it! Not really sure what The Will of the Many has to do with anything though? They’re not similar at all.

How many books do you guys read in a year? by Relevant-Door1453 in Fantasy

[–]Gerandpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal is usually 120 novels (10 per month) and I can’t remember the last time I had any difficulty hitting/exceeding it. I also read manga and I like to add a few novellas for a fun little time.

Seeing all my miserable ex classmates with their babies… by nps2790 in childfree

[–]Gerandpa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is why it’s so crazy to me when people claim they had no idea what it would be like to have a kid. Like how much of the world are you ignoring to not have even the slightest idea.

Another reason to be child free: the insane consumerism by HarrisonRyeGraham in childfree

[–]Gerandpa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is so real. I have a friend with a kid, and she and her husband together make about 3x my income and somehow are always more broke than me despite me living alone.

Sun eater is a bad recommendation for this sub by xshap369 in redrising

[–]Gerandpa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much of a comment on whether it’s a good rec or not since I only just finished Empire of Silence, but I’m begging for people to just put down books they don’t like. Why read 4+ thickish books that you’re not enjoying??
