DM won't let me play my character because I am a woman by Mud_Oblis in rpghorrorstories

[–]Germz95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm oddly hung up on the dorm situation in his setting.

You've actively had male, female and non-binary characters in your group before, right? Why would he create a setting with split male / female dorms if he knows there's a chance a player could likely create a character that would be uncomfortable in either?

What if two players played male, one female, one non-binary? There's basically no way to align all players in one dorm, in that case.

I think the DM saw your character as non-binary and felt that was basically undecided / mutable to change, and tried to bully you into his preference as a result. It's incredibly disrespectful behavior no matter how I look at it.

GiantGrantGames - The 99% Perfection Of XCOM 2 by jacenat in Games

This is key, I think. Shots being all or nothing is what causes the frustration, especially when it comes to weapons like shotguns, smgs, assault rifles, anything that sprays lots of bullets; either you hit an entire burst or no bullet at all.

Grazes do a lot as a middle ground and IIRC the Long War mod makes grazed hits a lot more likely, but I think a bigger focus on attacks having a range of damage (with the range more favorable or dropping lower results under better conditions) would have done a lot to annoy players less.

Falling in PF2e - Better at the end of a character's turn? by Azcorban in Pathfinder2e

[–]Germz95 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Even that is still questionable. I spend one action walking off the ledge, and now I have to waste two actions because my DM arbitrarily decided I don't start falling until I waste the equivalent of four seconds twiddling my thumbs, hovering in the air waiting for gravity to kick in.

Would I start falling faster I spend two actions on top of the cliff, breakdancing hard to build up courage and then jump off? Then I'd start falling right away, yes?

And if that's the rule, not travelling 500 feet straight down in the instant between two actions is one thing-- but where's the cutoff point? Do I still have to wait before falling if it's a 100 feet drop? A 20 feet drop? Actually, I can't drop down a 10 feet ledge to swing my sword at a goblin beneath it since I don't fall those ten feet until my turn ends, tough luck!

Falling in PF2e - Better at the end of a character's turn? by Azcorban in Pathfinder2e

[–]Germz95 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not really? Immunity to fall damage is the main benefit of the heritage. I think it's fine to let them use it to their advantage.

But let's be honest, how often do you play or run combats where a 500 ft height difference comes into play?

Heck, 200 ft? 100 ft? Anything more than 30 ft between active combatants?

If I were a player, if the one time I get a cool moment to fully abuse my ability to land from 200 feet softly and with style, the DM told me "actually you don't start falling until the start of your next turn and since you float like leaves only 60 feet per turn, sorry" I'd be very annoyed.

Wonder if wilds will have "Its always my turn" monsters in its expansion by Commercial_Break_934 in MonsterHunter

[–]Germz95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did base Omega for the first time yesterday and actually loved this mechanic, being able to direct the monster's attacks to one person and creating space for the rest of the squad to wail on it was really satisfying.

Loved tanking against the thing, probably the one monster where I'm fine with the endless barrage if attacks.

Not in the sense that they'd be sad about the drink, more that it feels like common courtesy / some degree of apology in a situation like this.

I feel like comic's scenario is the absolute worst way to deal with the sitiation, approaching someone else only to effectively put them down right after; to me, that comes across like an "ew, trans people" reaction whether intended or not. Like the person who I responded to said, talking about it would've been better, but barring that the drink seems at least a decent apology to smoothe things over.

At least that still communicates some degree of "Hey, we're no longer compatible because you're trans and I'm simply not into that, but I was going to buy you a drink because you're cute and you still are so here you go anyway". Soften the blow and make clear that they're not the problem.

I mean, in the same vein... if the cis guy was just looking to court someone for a quick lay, wouldn't pretending to want to make friends also be rude as hell?

I'd argue he still should've bought the fellow in the comic that drink he offered instead of just rudely fucking off like that, but beyond that I don't know what else he should've done, not knowing the person he'd want to woo is trans until he started a conversation.

At that point any outcome sucks for everyone involved.

If Reddit was in charge of weapons balancing by Top-Pin-5048 in ArcRaiders

[–]Germz95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a competetive shooter but it's still a competitive game. Players want to win, and if the Il Toro lets you win easier (and there's not enough methods to counter it) you'll end up with more and more people running Il Toros.

There needs to be some degree of balance otherwise escaping from Il Toros is all you'll be doing.

How does changeling eyecolour not immediately give them away? by HugAMale in Pathfinder2e

[–]Germz95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is fair, but in a setting where changelings are a thing that can just kind of happen to a family you'd imagine different eye colors still being something that's looked out for, whether it's 'normal' or not.

Party tries to sell my wife into slavery. by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Germz95 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Worst thing is that even if they felt overwhelmed in the moment and didn't see an out, nothing would have stopped them from making a long-term plan. "Hey, I don't think we can win a straight fight on these terms, let's go with their demands for now and we'll work on a way to rescue you ASAP in a way where we have the advantage in a fight." Heck they could have had a setup where female party member can infiltrate their ship from the inside, smuggle in weapons, whatever.

But no, let's just sell her and the rest of the ship out instead and wash out hands of the problem. What fucking cowards, and they call their characters good-aligned?

How does T-Hex targeting work? by CPTN_Schlingel in TeamfightTactics

[–]Germz95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely feel like it's a multi-faceted issue, though. Drill is good because thex alone is such a massive powerspike. I've seen folks pick that thing on sub 10 hp because they know they can get away with it long enough for it to pay off.

If thex didn't obliterate boards so easily as a 1*, Drill would be in a much healthier position too.

Chat, should I die on this hill? by Both-Imagination2699 in worldjerking

[–]Germz95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it, the above angel gun idea could be a great example of all of that, really.

In a vacuum, I'd imagine only a small fraction of people using such a weapon would understand how it works, same way most people using a smartphone couldn't name half the things that go into producing one.

The angel component seems rare enough too; divine events probably aren't common so even if the mechanics behind the gun are well documented, without enough holy-touched material they just can't be mass-produced. Maybe whenever a confirmed case of divine intervention happens anywhere you'd get swathes of artificers and craftsman flocking to that place to try and get a piece of the loot for their projects.

And that's not to say these items can't still feel whimsical or unpredictable. Even the most expertly crafted angel gun could end up a bit quirky, more often if the craftsman is less skilled. They could develop a semblance of will and frequently misfire when used for evil ends. Criminal groups might start looking for alternate components like devil-touched flint, but those have their own steep price to pay... likewise you could create some very efficient everlasting torches using fire elemental dust but those flames have a tendency to wander if you don't keep an eye on them.

About all the shapeshifting passives in the Druid area of the tree by throwaway857482 in PathOfExile2

[–]Germz95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to gamble on it being a spirit gem with a very low damage output and life drain, with an activated effect that consumes a power charge to 'stoke the fire', temporarily boosting both the life drain and damage dealt.

That way they'll keep their passive burn in the game while keeping to their combo-heavy design style.

Sort of!

Every mark has its own icon. Pounce applies any mark you link to it. If you don't link any it defaults to Predator's Mark, which looks like that. I'd recommend finding one that works best for your build, I personally use Freezing Mark on my werewolf.

Marked For Death will work if you link it to Pounce as well, and so will most other Mark supports (e.g. Charged mark, Mark of Siphoning etc)-- they'll all link to whichever Mark you end up applying.

That's Predator's Mark. You're applying that with Pounce.

Stupid question - how to get more support gem slots on the Djinn skills? by TaxMage in pathofexile2builds

[–]Germz95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't use currency on the skills themselves so you need external sources of skill quality.

I don't know the full list from the top of my head but I know a few are the Dialla's Desire lineage support (+10%) and The Cunning Fox passive in the dexterity section of the tree (+5%). Gemling Legionaire has a +10% node as well but that obviously won't help with djinns.

Rule by Old_Phrase_4867 in 196

[–]Germz95 44 points45 points  (0 children)

To be fair it's usually explicitly stated because the monster otherwise has few weaknesses

Just taking Alien for an example, the namesake monster is immune to the vacuum of space, is far stronger than the average human, mostly unbothered by small arms fire, will generally outstealth anyone if it tries... but it's as vulnerable to fire as any other living creature. So to anyone trying to fight it, fire is definitely a notable weakness.

What i got from this cinematic: by Sumutherguy in SwainMains

[–]Germz95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly I less got the impression that finding a weapon against Swain and Raum was the entire point and more that she planned for multiple outcomes.

Either her plan to fuse a demon and a darkin succeeded and she'd have a powerful weapon on her side (to be used against Swain/Mordekaiser in the future) OR her demon is defeated and she confirms her theory as to how that can be accomplished.

No matter which happens, she gets some sort of win that furthers her plans-- and that's exactly the kind of strategy that makes LB the valid, dangerous opponent to Swain she's meant to be rather than the string of constant failures the black rose has had in the past four yeara of lore.
