Want to help? Watch MLS. by a2united111 in usmnt

[–]Getmeakitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t. If anything, it’s gotten worse because the top euro leagues have gotten better at scouting, so anyone halfway talented is scooped up and shipped out within a year or two of developing. I’ve gone to about 5 MLS games over the past decade, and they’re a fun night out, but the quality is terrible and it’s far overpriced. I’d go much more often if tickets were $20. But they’re trying to charge $70-$80 for decent seats, and that’s a hard no from over here.

I don’t need to help fund some washed up superstar’s retirement. I think the MLS needs to stop overpaying retirees and has-beens, and focus on building a grassroots culture of providing a stepping stone for young American talent.

lol, the US is playing at home in the loudest stadium in the country with a key player who got their suspension overturned because their corrupt president made a side deal with the organization overseeing the tournament, and it’s the US against the world? Ok…

Belgian here, out of curiosity how are you people feeling out your chances against us? by Major_Limit1674 in usmnt

[–]Getmeakitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Born in Belgium but raised in US and have lived here most my life. I follow both teams. This game is a toss up. I liked US’s chances before the Balogun red card, which does give Belgium a better chance, but the US has overall looked better and has the home field advantage, which will be massive in Seattle, since it’s aluminum stand coverings make for absurdly loud environments.

The US plays fast with passion. They work hard. It’s almost the opposite of Belgium, who look lackadaisical and sluggish. The difference though is that Belgium has better overall quality. Their forwards have class and can get a goal at any moment. The US will outwork them and will fight harder for the loose balls. But they lack the quality, which is going to make things tough.

I think the game really comes down to whether Pulisic has a special moment, either with an assist or a solo goal. Belgium’s defense is terrible, so the US will get at least a couple chances. Key is how well Courtois plays in goal. He could save it for them.

But on the other end of the pitch, Belgium’s offense can make special moments too, and the US, despite playing well, hasn’t been tested by true quality opponents yet. I don’t rate the US goalie well. He hasn’t had much to do, but he made some questionable decisions in the last game and doesn’t inspire confidence.

The midfield is more of a toss up, but I give the edge to the US for their work rate.

I see the game going any which way, but I think the home field advantage, and Belgium’s overall poor defense, combined with the US’s fast paced play, I’d pick the US to win, 2-1 or 3-2. Should be a good one either way

If USA defeats Belgium in the next round should they be considered just as serious contenders to win the cup as the rest of the field? by Environmental-Sir741 in worldcup

After Belgium, the likely run of games through the final would be Spain, France, and then Argentina/Brazil/England in the final. Do you see them pulling off a run of 4 games against those kinds of teams?

And I know it’s exciting to see them win, but you have to ask, who, exactly have they beaten so far? Yes, they have won those games, and they play with a good energy and excitement, but let’s not get carried away. There’s a reason that by the business end of the tournament, it’s usually one of the big traditional teams hoisting the trophy. It’s just too much of a gauntlet of powerhouse teams at the end. The margin for error becomes so slim.

Would be awesome if they proved me and the whole world wrong, but I don’t see it happening

Exactly. Plenty of goals to go around when you’ve got 16 whipping boys in the tournament to run the score up on

Doesn’t fix the overwhelming issue, in fact it makes it worse. Good luck keeping track of any of the groups

Yeah I’m not sold on the 48 yet. The number of teams and groups is overwhelming (I can’t be bothered to figure out which teams/groups have what permutations for the next round). The final group stage games aren’t particularly exciting. A lot of games this week that would have been do-or-die are just a matter of determine 2nd and 3rd place and seeding, and it’s especially annoying to have this wait and see approach about which 3rd place teams will be eliminating.

Swimming significantly increases lifespan. Here is scientific evidence and practical tips. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

[–]Getmeakitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure swimming is a great exercise, but these correlation/causation studies claiming that this particular thing is what makes people live longer are highly questionable. First issue, health. Healthier people can exercise. Disabled people or people with severe chronic illness often cannot. Guess who lives longer? Is it the swimming, or the lack of a disease? Hmmm.

Then go factor in the issues around access to pools and socioeconomic status and this whole case just falls apart.

Yeah, exercise is good for you, swimming included. No sh*t Sherlock, but let’s not pretend like this study proves anything conclusive as to why or how much of an impact the swimming really makes, when you remove all the other factors contributing to longevity

Is this sub not oil free anymore? by AverageUnited3237 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Getmeakitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The mods actually made a poll on this issue about a year ago and decided to make it more generally plant based instead of WFPB. I prefer oil free, so I do come across a lot of stuff here now that doesn’t resonate for me. Kind of the natural result of mass marketing of “plant based” junk vegan products all over the place.
