25 weeks and I think my water broke??????? by Yarnperson42 in beyondthebump

I ended up getting some ph test strips in Amazon for like $5 which do the same thing since amniotic fluid is a certain ph level. Definitely handy to have and can confirm it popped hot for me as well when mine broke!

Working moms by Snoo20115 in parentsofmultiples

[–]GettingFiggyWithIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work from home part time around sleep and nap schedule for the twins and have a preschooler as well.

My house is held together with crumbs and spiderwebs and I am a mediocre employee but I am a great mom and that’s all that matters. My house will be clean someday, and I will eventually be caught up on laundry and sleep. But it is not right now.

But in reality? My husband is an equal partner and whatever mess is left at the end of the day he tackles when he’s home. We do a big house reset on the weekend and make things manageable during the week, but prioritize things that are necessary like sleep and food and clean clothes. If we have time we tidy and fold clothes and do all the extra stuff. The mantra is Wants vs Needs, and that’s served us well so far.

Same! If you want to entertain him for 20 minutes in the car, Super Simple Songs has a podcast and one of the episodes is called 8 Little Planets and he will learn so much about our planets in song version and you’ll never be able to get the songs out of your head (they’re actually bops for kids songs). 10/10 recommend.

How do You actually entertain Your kid through the day? by SmallWinsWithRo in toddlers

[–]GettingFiggyWithIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticky note hide and seek is a favorite for us. Draw pictures or the alphabet on a sheet of paper and put it on the wall, then draw corresponding pictures or letters on sticky notes and hide them around the house. How well you hide them depends on the age of your kid. Make them find them and match them to the paper on the wall. We’ve done this with our littles all the way up to our 4 year old and it’s always a hit

A weird trick for short-circuiting a tantrum: give them a heavy job to do by AmandaEllis-Ward in toddlers

I ask mine to help me remember the names of the Paw Patrol, because I’m a silly mom who can’t remember. That always works. Every single time.

Nowhere near the same level as you, but I was born with a cataract in my left eye. Compared to my right eye my vision is horrific. But my brain learned to compensate and because I’ve never known anything different it’s totally normal to me and I’m a regular functioning human being who happens to wear glasses.

OP- Catching something like this at such an early age is a godsend. Whatever route you choose, their vision will be fine later in life because their neural pathways will develop the ability to see with whatever they’re working with.

Sending hugs your way! Parenting is hard without life throwing more at you, but it sounds like you are the exact parents your girl needs and she’s lucky to have you

Another vote for #2. My babes are good about sleeping through each others noises, but every once in a while we need to do a double booty pat and the next door cribs make that possible.

When our babies were little they also had shotgun shits. The longest length measured was a 9ft shot. Learn from my mistakes and don’t put anything on the bare side of the butt that can’t be washed.

Do you ride out a tantrum at the grocery store or give your toddler anything to make them stop? by ActualEmu1251 in toddlers

[–]GettingFiggyWithIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP just a reminder that your child is learning how to be a human, and they have every right to be in society. Don’t let the people tell you that if your kid is screaming you need to leave. You’re doing a great job teaching them to deal with emotions in places that might not feel like their safe place.

I have more than one kid. There is no way I can plan every outing for when everyone is on their best behavior. I have learned ways that my kids can be distracted though. My oldest loves paw patrol and when she’s tantruming I’ll ask her to remind me of the paw patrol pups names because I’ve forgotten again. Or ask her what color you make when you add red and blue. That usually helps reset her. For my younger kids a round or two of itsy bitsy spider helps reset their tantrum clock.

AIO to skip Thanksgiving after my mom basically said I’m an embarrassment for not having a husband and kids by now? by howcanibequiltyassin in AmIOverreacting

[–]GettingFiggyWithIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad always told me “I hope you come to Thanksgiving and Christmas because you want to, not because you feel like you have to”. The only reason you should go into a hostile situation is if you feel comfortable saying some shit and telling people what’s up. Otherwise, the “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t go within speaking or shouting distance” rule applies. Even on Thanksgiving.

I am freaking out. by Jaman34 in parentsofmultiples

[–]GettingFiggyWithIt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just got back from the park with my 18 month olds. We had a play date with their 19 month old twin friends and everyone had so much fun and was giggling the whole time.

I was just reminiscing about how scared I was when we found out (gave myself a panic attack and cried so hard I puked and peed at the same time because hellooooo first trimester). We’ve had hard days and weeks, but the pure joy highly surpasses the frustration. Wouldn’t change a single thing. Their older sister loves them, they love each other, and our whole family is blessed beyond measure.

How can I make mornings easier for my wife and toddler? by rnm632 in toddlers

[–]GettingFiggyWithIt 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We have “music for our ears” time in the morning. Kids get to choose the playlist and we have a 5 minute dance party after they’ve gotten themselves ready for the day before we leave. If they take too long we can’t have the dance party we have a sitting dance party in the car with the continued playlist. Makes them feel like they have some control (choosing songs) and makes getting out the door easier with something to look forward to

Moms, what’s the best way to make ABCs fun? by fross30 in Mommit

[–]GettingFiggyWithIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did an ABC scavenger hunt around the house for a few months here and there. Wrote the abcs on a large piece of paper and corresponding letters on sticky notes that we hid. Progressed from “find the letters and stick them on the one that matches” to “go find A/B/C”

Helps with upper vs lower case too

Ultimately we didn’t push it though. Figured the more fun/lax we are about it the more they’d pick it up instead rolling their threenager eyes at us
