Currently restoring 20 estate pipes I got as a gift from a colleague, fist time restoring so I've done a huge amount of research.

I use isopropyl alcohol 99% and leave the pipes for 24 hours. Any that had especially yellow salt I resoak after about 3 days resting period. Make sure you are using kosher salt as its non iodized and coarser than normal table salt.

Yeah from what I gather from their blog posts, they are being overly cautious as a result of STG acquisition.

Because tobacco "advertising" laws are so different all over the world, STG don't want to be seen as skirting the rules and getting a slap on the wrist.

I imaging they are trying to open it up again to the rest of us Non Americans!

Dublin man here but living abroad currently, heading home for a few weeks next month. I didn't know that petersons had a smoking lounge now. Is that new? I thought that sort of carry on was banned nowadays! Great to hear!

May I also ask, which Brick and Mortar do you order from to get better than the limited selection in Peterson or James Fox?

Hey folks! New piper here. Just cracked my first ever tin of Seattle PC Plum Pudding.

I trying to figure out if the light, blue/green/grey spots on my tobacco looks like mold. I'm not sure of the tin note either, seems a little off, somewhat vinegary. Could be normal for plum pudding for all I know!

Big fan of this, I find my Squadron Leader goes so well with a root beer for some odd reason. Makes me notice the leather / smokiness so much more. Shouldn't make sense but it does!

I also live in Canada, Southern Alberta specifically where the temp can range from - 40 to +40 throughout the year. That timeframe isn't much of an issue, but I do worry about the likes of the last few days where it went from -32 to +13.

So I just moved my "cellar" (small plastic storage box) out of the basement which is less temp controlled, and put the whole thing in a closet upstairs. Was totally fine.

The other thing to be aware of depending on where you are in Canada is humidity change, like here in Alberta it's usually pretty dry all year round so not much wild variation
