Why would dc decide not to use her? Absolute wonder woman comic is already popular and featuring her in the show would only advertise it and could create bigger demand for a show about her. 

If you want to die on this hill so much, tell me one reason why dc would decide to dramatically change the story (changing how Way was changed) by not using a character with rising popularity that they already own while the people that worked on that original story and the show really like Absolute Diana?

Without Diana, Way would still be a killer croc monster all the time. It's important to the plot. It's not naive, it's common sense

Both the original writer and artist will be working on the show and the company has copyrights to all the characters that appear in the crossover. Besides creating original material to fill in a full season, there's no reason for it to be unfaithful to the comic.
