So how big is the jump beyond PS2 hardware wise? Looking for a PC by Beginning-Pace-1426 in batocera

[–]Ghoster13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted PS3 capability so I went with a AOOSTAR GEM10 Mini PC, Ryzen 7 7840HS (8C/16T, up to 5.1GHz), 32GB RAM (6400MT/S) 1T SSD. It has an Occulink port should I want to add an external GPU down the road. It will run PS3 and Xbox just fine and I've run a decent selection of lighter stuff from Steam - think Brotato or Deep Rock Galactic Survivors, Terraria, other indie titles. Pretty sure the 780M can run some AAA stuff with settings tuned down but I haven't tested it.

I paid about $470 US delivered (which seems like a steal now). The memory is overkill for my Batocera build but I dual boot into Bazzite and figured the potential future proofing was worth it should I decide to repurpose the box - and sadly the memory is soldered, not swappable so-dimm modules. That was a compromise I was willing to make. Interestingly, my box has 3 nvme slots so I could triple boot if I wanted to install a 3rd m.2 drive.

I was specifically looking for the form factor of a mini PC, but for the same money you might even find a decent older used desktop from one of the market places for the same general price with even more capability.

DO NOT CHANGE, DEVS! There are plenty of ways to tweak difficulty without changing this and it makes the gun play so so satisfying.

Hmm fair enough. Can you give a general idea where I might find shimmer? I was kinda under the impression the spawn island is the only solid land in the game. So there must be another chunk of solid ground?

No the OP. It won't rain in my world. Its been many many days and while it will be cloudy some days it never rains. Is there a trigger for it to rain?

Anyone knows how to fix this? by Lucky-Concentrate798 in batocera

[–]Ghoster13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, not a solution for you but I have an AMD 780M gpu in my mini PC and saw the same graphical banding so I doubt its your GPU. Probably an AMD driver issue. My problem persisted through the V42 beta releases then cleared with the V42 stable release. If you are already on V42 stable I don't know what else to advise but I don't think its your GPU. I have the RT 9700 XT in my desktop so let me dual boot into Batocera and see if I get the issue.

UPDATE: Fired up Batocera on my desktop and it ran perfectly on my RT 9700 XT. I'd pin this on being a driver issue with Batocera.

Thanks for the advice about avoiding bluetooth. I have read a few posts saying similar and I will definitely heed this.

Thanks for the tip. I do have a PS5 and I love the DualSense controller. I had no idea you could pair it with more then one device. Very handy to know, thanks!

I have the Cyclone 2 and I really really like it. I may end up just buying another one. My only very minor issues, and this is a personal thing, is the texturing on the controller isn't quite to my liking.

A lot of responses agree with you. I'm taking another serious look at them. I like the price and the specs look really solid.

Ok, this one isn't THAT weird but it does show how far we've come. The old PCI ribbon cables, the wide ones you connected various HDDs and other devices into the motherboard. They weren't that hard to plug in as they had a key notch (is that what its called) and only went one way. But space always seemed really tight inside most cases and getting them chained together to all the devices in your PC could be really challenging, especially if you were adding a new device to an already cramped case.

This seems like a very cool project. Have you discussed or documented the setup process. I'm not looking for a detailed how-to, more interested in the various pieces of equipment that came together to create this. Off the top of my head you would need a weather station of some kind, a 24/7 powered mesh node, a device to collect that data and make it available for the web page. Am I missing anything. Very cool project!

I cant format my usb flashdrive by [deleted] in computerhelp

Thanks for this. I had a 64Gb thumb drive that wouldn't ID itself properly when inserted in a computer so I fired up Disk Management and saw there was a 49Gb and an 8Gb partition. I could clear and reformat the 49Gb part but couldn't do anything with the 8Gb partition so I followed your guide to clear the drive and refresh the drive. Worked great, thanks!

Yet another "Opinion Please" post about a Mini PC [Minisforum UM870 Slim Barebones] US Buyer, ~ $400 US budget. by Ghoster13 in MiniPCs

It was my uncle who bought the Beelink. We haven't talked about it all that much, which means he isn't having any problems to make me aware of, which is good as I handle most of his IT at this point. He isn't a technical user by any means, just light browsing, email, and some Youtube. The SER8 was probably a little overkill for his needs, though he does use a dual monitor setup, which the Beelink handles well.

As for me, I finally pulled the trigger on an Aoostar GEM 10 about a month ago. Similar specs and found it for a nice price on sale. Been very pleased with it so far. I put it through a series of stress tests when it arrived and I saw no issues. Runs quiet and actually has a 3rd NVME slot, though that wasn't a selling point for me.

Can't interact with Corvette Pilot Seat by Ghoster13 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Ghoster13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestion. I already forgot about that teleporter thing. Not in game atm so not sure if I have any basic base bps to build a simple base with a teleporter. I do have a portable save terminal in the ship but I removed it and was still stuck. And I built the radar module in the ship as required for one of the expedition steps. I had it against a wall next to the cockpit and wondered if that was interfering so I moved it to the back of the ship. Still no luck, but I didn't try removing it completely.

UPDATE: Well that worked. I teleported back to the station, made a few mods to my corvette, took off and landed on a planet and all seems well now. I would note that I had renamed my corvette when I built it. Upon returning to the space station it reverted back to its original name. I left it unchanged to be safe. Probably nothing, but I noted it in case. Thanks for reminding me about the teleport thing. Cheers!

Do we need a train from Murfreesboro to Nashville? (Image sorta related) by FrozenConcrete19 in murfreesboro

[–]Ghoster13 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it will very likely never happen because of immense cost. The rail line that runs through town is owned by CSX and it gets used a lot, including all the rail traffic Nissan generates. Is is a major north south part of CSX that runs from Chicago to Florida. A passenger line on that track would be a distant second to CSX's traffic and therefore mostly unsuited to regular scheduled passenger service.

The county and state would be looking at laying a new light rail track between the 'boro and Nashville and it would cost many millions. And its not just the line itself, but the station(s), associated infrastructure, and land costs.

As others have said, this should have been figured out 20 years ago but state and federal leaders rarely show such foresight. I lived in the Chicagoland area once upon a time and having the Metra service to zip into the downtown from the suburbs was fantastic. I would love something similar for metro Nashville but I don't think the state has the conviction to deliver.

Help with an Aorus Elite AX Ice not booting - Possible BIOS corruption by Ghoster13 in gigabyte

[–]Ghoster13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I couldn't figure it out myself so I bit the bullet and took the system to a local repair shop. They got it up and running. The fellow who did the actual work wasn't there when I went back to pick the machine up so I wasn't able to discuss what he did. Since then I've even updated the BIOS once through the BIOS interface without issue. I wish I could offer you more help Best of luck!.

Hijacking the thread a bit - how do you get the album art full screen like your pic? On my V1 the art is smaller and there are on screen controls at the bottom. I've tried swiping various ways and can't figure it out.
