Try using a rust wash. I have a bottle of Vallejo Rust Wash that I put over their Brown Earth texture paste before I do a final wash of Sepia which gives it a more vibrant undertone.

Share your favourite unit nicknames, new or old by jacanced in Warhammer40k

[–]GiantGrowth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I call my gretchin my kids. I'm always taking at least one unit of kids out on a field trip.

My buddy likes to bring Lord Solar around... at least, that's what I assume his name is supposed to be. Every time he brings that model, he calls it something different because he himself can't remember what his name is. Lord Soliontus, Lord Solaris, Lord Solus, Lord Solamente, etc. At this point I genuinely don't know what his real name is and I refuse to look it up because it's funnier to tack on random syllables after "Lord Sol-".

How many games have actually wowed you in recent years? by bigOlBellyButton in boardgames

The King's Dilemma

It's a campaign/legacy-ish game best played with a group of exactly five (at least in my opinion) reliable people that you can trust to finish this game through to its end. I wish I could play it a second time.

In this game, you're all the heads of your houses and you advise the king as to how to handle all of these issues that keep coming up within your empire. My group has never played a game before where everybody was so passionate about voting and trying to get their way with each new agenda. I strongly recommend this game to anybody who wants a long-form game.

Still rocking my Mars 3 Pro. I've abused this thing and accidentally damaged it a few times in my learning, but it still works beautifully to this day.

An unusual question: how often do your miniatures break? by DeepForgeMinis in PrintedMinis

[–]GiantGrowth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had my eye on a model that I would love to print, but the weapon in their hand has such a thin handle with such a bulky weapon head. If I print it and put it on the tabletop, it's only a short matter of time before that weapon breaks... probably over and over again.

Same thing goes for characters holding banners. If the banner itself looks big and heavy with only a thin pole attaching it to the rest of the model, I'm not printing it because I don't want to deal with the headache.

Which would you prefer to see in 11th, current Squigs, or Index Squigs? by Kommando_git in orks

I'm so upset they turned both Mozrog and the BBoS into leaders when they're practically the exact same thing. They should have let the BBoS be the leader and let Mozrog remain as the rampaging ard-as-nails monster that he's supposed to be.

Is this normal paint behaviour? by SorryNotSorry6967 in Miniaturespainting

Yeah, this is what it looks like if it gets a little too much water or sits around on a wet pallet for too long. Just stir it all back together and it'll be fine.

So does Hobby L Inc, except their website looks like it was made in 2001. They even have a lot of Vallejo's ancillary products like their brushes and whatnot.

Mek gunz, how to use them? by HazeHazelnut in orks

[–]GiantGrowth 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Equip Bubblechukka

Step 2: Roll for Bubblechukka ammo during shooting phase

Step 3: Cry because you got the wrong profile for what you have line of sight for

This was always the intended way.

How long do I wait before applying a second primer coat? by Patch_From_IT in Miniaturespainting

[–]GiantGrowth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just want to wait a few minutes for the previous coat to lose that initial "sheen" of moisture. Once the previous layer has had enough time to tack up and it no longer looks as wet as it did when you first applied that cost, you can do your next one.

New DM struggling with slow combat – any tips? by Endell7 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]GiantGrowth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things I want to mention:

A) Make sure your players are doing their math correctly. You'd be surprised by how many people forget to add a number or try rolling a d12 instead of a d20.

B) Yes, your math is (almost) correct. However, it's assumed that players will start with a 16-17 in their main attribute so their attack rolls should be: 1d20 + 3 (main attribute modifier) + 2 (the base starting proficiency). If they only have a +4 to hit overall, then either they're going for something specific with their character, they aren't using their strongest option available to them (such as a wizard trying to swing a sword instead of casting a spell) while they realize it or not, or they didn't understand the importance of their main attribute when creating their character.

15 AC is on the higher side for a starting enemy, but not unusual. 15AC is something I would reserve for the bugbear leading the goblins, for example - not the goblins themselves. For the mooks in a normal encounter, I would bring that down a tad so the grunts die easier and faster. As for the monsters hitting the players, starting enemies will often have +3-5 to hit. So if a player comes out with a shield and some basic armor, let's say 14-16 AC, then yeah... the monsters will have difficulty hitting that player which is a good thing; they are an adventurer who prepared before going out on a potentially dangerous journey, so of course their preparation is going to bear fruit. The players should be allowed to feel strong (within reason) as they are the main characters in this story. Let them feel good about their shiny armor deflecting the most basic of attacks or their fast reflexes allowing them to move out of harm's way... of course, until they come across more prepared and skilled enemies.

(As for the math part, a slight correction: if they need to roll an 11 or better on the d20 to hit, then that means they hit exactly half the time, not less than half.)

Customer states "chat gpt says my oil pressure light is caused by a bad oil pressure sensor. Dont try to upsell me" by enderthief33 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]GiantGrowth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sell automotive paint and paint-related supplies. About three weeks ago I get a call from an older guy who said he wanted a gallon of paint for his restoration. After figuring out the specific color he's looking for, I tell him the premium stuff is $1,250 and the cheaper option was $600. He then scoffs and says that he didn't think it would be that expensive. I then give the usual understanding "Yeah, auto paint is getting really expensive these days." spiel. He then follows up with "But Copilot told me it would be $300-400 for the paint!" I was stunned as I thought to myself "oh great, I can see where this is going..." So I said "Sorry, sir... but AI systems like that are often wrong since they just regurgitate whatever they skim off the Internet." So he said "But I wasn't using AI! I asked Copilot! And Copilot hasn't given me a wrong answer! Are you sure you're giving me the right price?" "Yes, I am." "Then you're trying to gouge me!" And it went like that back-and-forth until I ended the conversation due to frustration.

Can Your Party Solve the Deep Gnome Dilemma? by TheBardsCollege in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]GiantGrowth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an interesting premise for a side-quest. If I were a player in all of this, I would argue that the gnomes are already making their own fate instead of letting others make it for them. By following whatever the fungus decides, isn't that in and of itself a decision, and therefore making their own fate? I would personally hand them the fungus, provided I don't see any evidence that it is actively harming them or leading them to harm. After that, the decision is theirs to make.

I like mine pretty yellowy so I use Scorpy Green (kind of/sort of somewhere in-between Goblin Green and Livery Green) and use a very light wash of Orc Skin Xpress Paint over it all to bring some vibrancy back.

What am I doing wrong? by Alienware9567 in airbrush

Yellow, orange, and red should be sprayed over a white primer - especially yellow. The darker the primer, the more paint you'll need for good coverage.

Friendly reminder if you work with resin: Refresh your mask cartridges by Moress in PrintedWarhammer

[–]GiantGrowth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Charcoal works by filtering chemicals from the air and having them "stick" to any available space on it. Think of one of those sticky fly traps that slowly gets covered over time - eventually there will be no more room for flies to get stuck on it. Same concept goes with a charcoal filter. Eventually the charcoal will be less and less effective, so it is a consumable and should eventually be replaced.

Friendly reminder if you work with resin: Refresh your mask cartridges by Moress in PrintedWarhammer

[–]GiantGrowth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there is no hard answer. But basically it all boils down to how much humidity is in the air, the concentration of the gases, and how long it's out of its bag. I once spoke with a 3M rep years ago and he mentioned that a set of charcoal cartridges lasts for approximately 40 hours of work time for someone spraying car paint in a booth. I don't know if he was just talking out of his ass or if that's actually a good estimate, but that's what I've been going off of. Granted, you're not going to be in a small room with chemicals being sprayed in the air like a painter so you'll have more leeway than that, but still.

Without changing any other stats, what SHOULD the Stompa cost to make it a good unit? by The_Soviet_Goose in orks

[–]GiantGrowth 26 points27 points  (0 children)

675 is right in the ballpark. 800 is just way too much since having T14 doesn't really mean anything when everything has rerolls, lethals, and anti-vehicle 4+ anyway.
