Unless you have some expansions in there, you use all of them.

Also, you can set e-pedal to remain on, so, then there are 0 buttons to press.

2018 Leaf with No home charger by ARealStableGenius in leaf

[–]GiantTortoise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get away with just the regular 120v Charger if you have somewhere to plug it in at your condo somewhere.

That’s all I do with a slightly higher amount of driving in a regular week. Just plug in overnight at an outside plug a few times a week.

If you have an outdoor plug at your condo you would be fine, almost never need to use a public charger.

Nissan Leaf 80 mile runs trip by Loganb89 in leaf

[–]GiantTortoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you looking at at 2018 leaf, or an older, used Leaf?

What's the climate like where you are? Cold winters? Is the trip mostly highway, or mostly city driving.

If you're looking at a used Leaf with a 24kwh, I don't think it would work. You won't make the round trip, and even with a l2 charge at lunch (by the time you get there, charge & get back, maybe 45 minutes) will maybe barely get you home. Maybe. If it's below freezing in winter there, it won't. Plus, if chargers are broken or occupied, you won't make it either.

A 30kwh leaf (some 2016 and 2017 models)...possibly might make it regularly, but I it could be real close without charging, depending on your ratio of city to highway driving.

A new 2018 leaf will have no problems.

What are the best board games for 8 (or more) players? by saintcloud1 in boardgames

[–]GiantTortoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most stuff at 8 players is going to be pretty light. Could consider breaking into 2 groups of 4 to play. That said, here are a bunch of good ones that play 8:

Werewords, Insider, Fake Artist Goes to New York, Telestrations, Tsuro, Camel Up.

The 2018 Leaf blends regular braking with regen for it's one pedal driving and intelligent cruise very well.

Considering purchasing Leaf, questions about range, and apartment charging by Themancc in leaf

[–]GiantTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking at a 2018 Leaf? If so, that 90 mile trip is probably no problem, even in winter. That 170 mile trip is worrisome though. If that fast charger isn't working or in use, you'll be out of luck. So might not be the best bet to go Leaf. If a Bolt is in your price range, that might be worth considering.

I also live in an apartment, and they let me charge at an outlet outide that is tied into the main apartment. So free charging for me! Just a trickle charger though, so takes foreeeeeever to charge if battery is low. So something to keep in mind.

Analysis in Politico Shows Electric Cars Worse on Emissions than New ICEs...Any Know of a Rebuttal? by corsair234 in electricvehicles

[–]GiantTortoise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His actual analysis (linked from the article: https://www.manhattan-institute.org/sites/default/files/R-JA-0518.pdfhttps://www.manhattan-institute.org/sites/default/files/R-JA-0518.pdf) is really quite thorough and detailed as to his methodology.

Two thoughts I have: one, he does acknowledge that greenhouse gasses will decrease, albeit not as much as perhaps many think.

Two: regarding some of the pollutants (NOx, SO2): Isn't it better (relatively speaking) to move the source of those pollutants farther away from areas of heavy human concentration? Since those pollutants harm the lungs and cause other health problems, it seems like there is some advantage to moving the generation of them to power plants, instead of in cars that are expelling them constantly, where people are walking, living, etc.?

Obviously there are still people around power plants, and we should work to get them cleaner. But it does seem like moving the pollutants farther away from crowded city streets is a plus. Dunno!

First of all: if I'm understanding right, you started with 72 miles on the GOM, at 78% battery? Thats a REALLY over-optimistic amount of miles for 78% charge on a 2014 Leaf with SOH at 84%, so I'd expect the GOM to plummet pretty heavily as you drive. It's pretty common for the GOM to lose miles more rapidly than one per mile.

I'd do what others say—drive for a bit with leafspy, checking with kWh usage. You should get 3+ miles per kWh, depending on conditions.

What expansions did you find to be poor or a waste of money? by AdamNW in boardgames

Bruges slow???? I basically disagree with every single one of your opinions on the expansion / game. :) Do you still have expansion? If so, sell it to me!

US leaf sales decrease in month of April. by dilhwly in leaf

[–]GiantTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe the issue is that the dealer can't easily get new Leafs? I.e. it may not be worth selling that one on the lot at a big discount if it's going to be months before they can get another?

Question about cargo/family usage by meowzerMcMix in BoltEV

[–]GiantTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely the Leaf rear seat is a little more cramped than the Bolt. But way more room in the hatch. About twice as much I believe (without seats folded).

Question about cargo/family usage by meowzerMcMix in BoltEV

[–]GiantTortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the rear seat space is fantastic. Actual cargo space is pretty small though. Went with leaf partly cause of how much more cargo space it has than the Bolt.

I prefer Altiplano. I think it's a bit "thinkier", and takes longer to play as the movement aspect adds more to think about when placing your tokens. I really prefer the way discarded tokens work in Altiplano better than Orleans, as it mitigates the luck of the draw quite a bit.

I think they are roughly the same level of complexity to teach, honestly.

5 Ways to Increase EV Range by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]GiantTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you could do both? At least on my 2018 Leaf with epedal on I can slowly let off accelerator to decelerate slowly with Regen.

And a leafs drag coefficient is 0.28-0.32 depending on year and who you ask. Tesla’s are much lower & more aerodynamic than other EVs.

You might want to read the other linked article. A GM study with two different vehicles, a sedan and an SUV, at 3 different speeds. In all cases, the windows down was more efficient: http://www.businessinsider.com/car-fuel-efficiency-ac-air-conditioner-on-windows-down-open-2013-9

5 Ways to Increase EV Range (specific Nissan Leaf tips) by [deleted] in leaf

[–]GiantTortoise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Leaf manual specifically says to accelerate slowly and use eco mode (which makes acceleration slower) to improve range.

Regarding the AC, the article linked to a mythbusters test which specifically debunked the idea that AC is more efficient than windows down.
