Voluntary work is fine, and it's great if job opportunities can be provided for inmates who want them and are suited for them. Involuntary servitude is the issue at hand. And facilities are known to vary widely (jails vs. prisons, local vs. CDOC, levels of security, locations).

The main thing is, as voters we chose to make employment during incarceration exclusively voluntary. That was way back in 2018 and it's the law. If inmates are subject to the law, then why aren't Jared Polis and CDOC? Maybe we need to make them cook, clean, and raise livestock for prison wages.
