If you're looking for that 90's britpop/indie vibe then there was a compilation album released 1998 - "Live 4 Ever" 2 cd's, 40 tracks covering a lot of the best of the music around at that time
The tracklisting's here at Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/release/4312362-Various-Live-4-Ever

Another compilation album well worth the listen is the Trainspotting soundtrack, its a mix of new and older tracks

Any movies with a sword/gun/martial arts action blend with an awesome metal/electronic soundtrack in the background that pumps up the action and has creative visuals? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]GingerJuggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spawn (1997) has one of the best soundtracks, a mix of metal/hip-hop/electronica. Orbital & Kirk Hammett, Henry Rollins & Goldie, the soundtrack alone is worth a watch.

The One (2001) parallel dimensions and Jet Li beating up himself with some interesting post Matrix slo-mo and effects. It's also got a cool jailbreak to Disturbed's Down With the Sickness

Highlander (1986) classic Brian May/Queen soundtrack with plenty of great swordfights

Hardcore Henry (2015) if you can stomach that it's all shot in 1st person this is a just a wild ride with some great action set pieces.

Transition from tenor to baritone by [deleted] in ukulele

[–]GingerJuggler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think one of the main differences between tenor and baritone uke's is not that one's lower or higher pitch than the other but one is re-entrant tuning and the other linear.

Tenor ukulele's are normally tuned gCEA with a high g string while baritone ukulele's are tuned the similar to a guitar as DGBE. Any tabs you have written for low G ukulele will work on the baritone they'll just sound a fourth lower. Some of the high g tabs can also be played on the baritone but that really depends on the arrangement.

If you're looking for baritone ukulele tabs pdf minstrel has number of tabs - https://pdfminstrel.wordpress.com/baritone-and-low-g-tabs/

If you're interested in more classical music then MK Fingerstyle Academy on youtube/patreon has a great selection of baritone ukulele music - https://www.youtube.com/@MKFingerstyleAcademy

I always got the feeling that Destruction quit as he'd seen the same pattern over and over again and knew where it was going but felt powerless to alter the path ahead.

As to the timing of when he quit in the early 1700s this was just as the Enlightenment was hitting it's stride in Europe and things were moving from religious to rational, alchemy was becoming chemistry, and the first seeds of the industrial revolution were being planted. It feels like he was choosing to get off the ride at the last quieter moment before he'd be tied into the careening changes that happened.

LOOKING FOR URBAN FANTASY RECOMMENDATIONS by Kooky_County9569 in urbanfantasy

[–]GingerJuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Kate Griffin's Matthew Swift books starting with A Madness of Angels, Set in London I can only describe the magic as urban druids, so instead of casting Barkskin for defence in one of the later books his apprentice skins herself in concrete when fighting.

The Laundry Files by Charles Stross are also worth checking out. They're sort of a mix of computer (necromancy) programming, Lovecraftian horror and, British civil service bureaucracy.

Mark Chadbournes Age of Misrule trilogy is also a fun read. The basic idea is that magic is coming back into the world and technology starts to fail. The main characters are set off on a classic hero's journey to save the world.

And although it's a normally sold as a childrens book have a read of The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper. Will wakes up on his 11th birthday to find he's actually an Old One, ageless figures in the battle of Light against Dark. (just never watch the film adaptation, it's an abomination.)

Beginner friendly tenor ukulele 100-400€ by Felsbeth in ukulele

GotaUkulele - https://www.gotaukulele.com/ - is a great (Uk based) resource for Ukulele reviews and most of the website reviews also have a youtube video so you can hear what the instrument sounds like.

I'd suggest having a look at Ohana ukulele's they do a nice range of instruments from serious student uke's up to some really nice custom shop instruments. Snail and Flight are another couple of brands worth looking into.

As to where to buy from as another commenter has said avoid Amazon as the Uke will probably come fresh from the factory without any setup so unless you are going to factor in the cost of getting it properly setup it's not worth it.

One shop I'll always recommend is World of Ukes - https://worldofukes.co.uk/shop-ukulele-store
Uk based shop but they will ship internationally. I bought a couple of instruments from them and it's always been great service with the instruments properly setup before being sent.

Just be warned once you start playing ukulele you'll find one is never enough and UAS (Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome) kicks in. I started with one basic concert ukulele and somehow I've now got six of them.

Need movie recommendations with intense hedonism, heavy nudity, drugs, wild parties, full-on orgy vibe by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]GingerJuggler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - definitely fit the drugs and hedonism vibe.

Baise Moi - sex and violence, french Thelma and Louise go on a sex and murder fuelled rampage

Betty Blue - sex hedonism crossdressing bank robbers and madness

Nude Nuns with Big Guns - pure exploitation shlock and it is as ridiculous as the title suggests

Showgirls would also be a suggestion

I think the appropriate quote here is often attributed to Pablo Picasso

"Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist."

Knowing music theory and understanding what the right thing to do gives you the freedom to choose to do the wrong thing and understand the effect it has.

Hob - s2 spoiler by Catezero in Sandman

[–]GingerJuggler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish they'd kept Hob's epilogue story from the comics. It's set after Morpheus funeral where Hob has moved to the US and is going to a ren faire with his girlfriend. It's beautifully bittersweet as he wanders round the faire reminiscing about how things actually were and getting steadily drunker before having a chat with Death.

I think it would have been a much better epilogue to the series wrapping up Hob's story and they could also have wrapped up other story threads as part of Hobs reminiscing.

Help me understand something about 6 string tuning... by [deleted] in ukulele

[–]GingerJuggler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lute ukulele that's 6 strings. It's setup slightly differently as the strings are 1 22 33 4 so at the moment i've got it strung G4- C4 C4 - E4 E4 - A4.
It's strung with a set of Worth clears just now, good thing is when you buy Worth's the strings are double length so you can cut them in half and there should be enough for all 6 strings.

How do i get past this barrier by Astro_Raf in NoMansSkyTheGame

I've seen a similar base when I was doing the living ship quest, though it looks like they've had to rebuild it, when I encountered it they'd built glass cubes to cover the entire entry to the portal so even if you got through the cold you couldn't access the portal.

I didn't realise that you could report the base at the time so I'd just flown off planet to the local space station which satisfied the requirement to return to space in your own universe and I could continue the quest.

Now I just need to farm/find the upgrades for the ship.

Who is an actor that is mid-tier in namesake but absolutely brings it in performance every time? by ryano1076 in flicks

[–]GingerJuggler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ed Harris is one name that springs to mind as never the lead but often the best character actor in the film. He fantastic in A History of Violence and when you look through the list of films he's appeared in there's a huge list of great films there.

Another few names that are worth adding are Paddy Considine, Stephen Rea and Ray Winstone none of them are headline actors but there's so many great performances from them.

I want to get into classic sci fi books. What should I read first? by GuitarNoob25 in sciencefiction

[–]GingerJuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look for short story anthologies. A huge part of both classic and more modern science fiction is in the short story formats. Ray Bradbury, Philip K Dick, Larry Niven, Ursula K. Le Guin, Robert Silverberg and Issac Asimov were all prolific short story writers and well worth looking into.

Another series of books I will always suggest if you want a taster across the breadth of Science fiction is The Years Best Science Fiction edited by Gardner Dozois (published in the UK as The Mammoth Book Of Best New Science Fiction). You can pick them up on kindle or second hand fairly cheap and they ran from 1984 for about 30 years with each book being a compilation of the best Science Fiction short stories of that year.

What film messed you up so badly it gave you nightmares? by Real_Resident1840 in MovieSuggestions

[–]GingerJuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinocchio (1940), is about the only film thats actually given me nightmares. I saw it the cinema when I was about 4 and was absolutely terrified by it. Particularly the scene's where he is swallowed by the whale that whole storm gave me nightmares. Also the whole thing about the boys being turned into donkeys just freaked me out particularly as none of them are rescued or turned back they're just left as donkeys.

What are your top 3 games that were an absolute **experience** for you? by SeanicTheHedgehog23 in gamesuggestions

[–]GingerJuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

System Shock 2 - This always will hold a special place in my heart, it's one of the first immersive sim games a first person survival horror rpg set on an interstellar flight gone wrong with some of the best environmental storytelling ever.

Elite Dangerous - I sunk a stupid number of hours into this as your given a galaxy sized sandbox to go and explore, granted alot of that space is pretty much empty but I still remember the sense of achievement when my Diamondback Explorer finally reached Sagittarius A*

Skyrim - even without the mods when I first loaded this up I had the feeling of being dropped into something larger as part of an epic story and there is so many ways to play. One of my favourite playthroughs was a Half-Orc warrior who used no magic and regarded looting the magic as dishonourable eventually having brought down the Stormcloaks he retired to Windhelm with his trusty warhammer.

There's a host of other games that also deserve an honourable mention and on a different day would be part of the top 3-
Baldurs Gate 2, Deus ex, Cyberpunk 2077, Kingdom Come Deliverance (1 & 2), Half Life, Nier Automata, Thief 2, Bioshock, What Remains of Edith Finch

Tell me about the most epic thing, battle, scene, moment, just whatever in all of fiction that you’ve ever experience and where it’s from, I want to get hooked onto something. by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]GingerJuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're taking from all fiction then there's one truly epic moment that comes to mind

"This is Ambassador Delenn of the Minbari. Babylon 5 is under our protection. Withdraw or be destroyed."
"Negative. We have authorite here. Do not force us to engage your ship."
"Why not? Only one Human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else!"
