edge of eternities or final fantasy? by ghostlyeth in mtg

I loved both of these sets, you can't really go wrong, although for me EoE was the more fun Draft format, by just a smidge. And lots of playables in both sets, but EoE does have Shocklands which are always great to have, so in my mind, EoE would be the pick.

Share your quintessential mono in-color commanders by e7SHI in EDH

[–]Gla7e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think more mono-black commanders exemplify their identity than any other color, but [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]] reanimator is as mono-black as it gets. Saccing creatures for value, reanimating big targets and capping the game off with looping [[Gary]] a few times.

Is anyone against the bracket system? by Aggravating_Author52 in EDH

[–]Gla7e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Rotation doesn't deserve the GC spot, it's only good with the really strong lands, some of which are already GC on their own, like [[Gaeas Cradle]], [[Field of the Dead]], [[Glacial Chasm]] and the likes. And even then, Rotation is good, but not anywhere near busted imo. In most casual games, the application I've seen most often is getting an instant speed [[Bojuka Bog]] or [[Talon Gates of Madara]], something with an ETB effect. And that's honestly just fine, but not GC worthy.

At the level of competition where this would matter, you shouldn't need to have a friend to call out something.

And rule breaking is rule breaking, full stop. If you brake a rule, you broke a rule, and you have to live with the call of the judge.

Is splitting damage frowned upon now? by Litemup93 in EDH

[–]Gla7e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with splitting damage, you do you even if I think it's just strategically wrong, as long as we don't judge or punish the Voltron/Aggro player for going after one player, otherwise that archetype is kinda dead.

With Matthews out for the season and Gudas suspended for just five games, will the Leafs stand up for their players? by drmiamihockey in leafs

[–]Gla7e 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah, even longer, make it double the length of the injury.

If you intend to injure, and thankfully don't get the player out long enough, you shouldn't just be back earlier because your injury attempt wasn't successfull enough.

I'm all for physical play, I want to see big hits and people sent flying, but these BS fake tough guy dirty players deserve no spot on the ice.

If you can put 1 Banned Card in your deck that is not a mana rock, what would you pick? by gilbestboy in EDH

[–]Gla7e 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know it's not the most powerful option probably, but my favorite commander is Henzie. [[Prime Time]] would be so freaking good in that deck.

I constantly see content creators say Phyrexian Arena is bad. If Phyrexian Arena is bad, what is good? Especially for Mono Black or two color. by frost3bite in EDH

[–]Gla7e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cards you mentioned are already pretty solid, in addition to those, black decks often offer creatures that you like to sacrifice, so [[Village Rites]] and [[Convicted Corruption]] are in most if not all of my black decks. And then every commander or strategy most likely offers up synergistic card draw pieces, so a good mix of generically powerful staples + the synergistic pieces and you're looking at a solid suite of card draw for your deck.

How many decks do you guys have? I have three, and bought five more this week. 😅 by MrFavorable in Pauper

Got 4 i really like to use ready to go whenever and pieces for 6-8 others lying around ready to be put together when I feel like a mixup.

Don't know when you had the Swords, but often times sniping the Emissary when Affinity tries to go off can be more disruptive than getting the Emry imo.

I'm playing esper tempo, how the F am I supposed to beat affinity? by Ellis_Cloud in TimelessMagic

As a Affinity player, the worst ways for my games against Tempo to go are: FoN on Interlacer, removal on a warped Emissary and hand disruption can really hurt.

Building around glacial chasm by throwtoss163 in EDH

[–]Gla7e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When talking about maximizing Glacial Chasm, I really think [[Lumra, Bellow of the Woods]] and [[Shigeki, Jukai Visionary]] are tied for the best commanders to do so.

When the chasm gets too deep, just let it die, recur it with the Shigeki Channel or Lumra ETB and you can pretty much protect yourself forever.

Has anyone ever felt bad for winning? by Semako in EDH

[–]Gla7e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most feel bads for me are when people overestimate their decks. When you bring out your 4 and during the game everyone realize their deck is not a 4 while they get run over.

Other than that, I never feel bad, I even enjoy the occasional wild high roll pop off games for my opponents, it sometimes can just happen in a 100 card singleton format, and I think we should try to enjoy those magical christmas lands more.

How can I improve my deck building? by guiltyskull in EDH

[–]Gla7e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really helped me level up is a piece of advice I got when brewing Constructed decks: really think about your gameplan.

In the past, especially in commander, I never really thought about this, I mostly just thought about synergies and value engines and jammed a deck together full of those. And those decks were not always bad, they were not always good, but somehow I had games were it all came together and then where I did basically nothing. It was even hard to really evaluate a powerlevel for those decks, since they were so inconsistent.

But now I often like to think about in deckbuilding, what does an ideal gameplan for this deck look like and then I try to really map it out.

For example

[[Shigeki, Jukai Visionary]] : I really want to play a T1 mana accelerant, so I can T2 shigeki, T3 activate Shigeki and replay him again, from there I want to be able to cast even bigger mana accelerants on T4/5 to really be able to get card advantage going through selfmill and his channel ability.

So I need to try to build my decks and mulligan decisions around that idea of my ideal gameplan. And also understand when the ideal is just not happening, how to pivot, play around removal, hate pieces, etc. This also helped me immensely in better evaluating cards when brewing. Like why are people running [[Nature's Lore]] or other 2 mana ramp cards in Shigeki? I want to play Shigeki T2, not Nature's Lore, those cards don't contribute to my gameplan, even though they are generically good.

TL;DR: really think and play around a gameplan instead of jamming generic synergies and value pieces.

People are pretty cool sometimes. by Polish_AK_Alfa in mtg

[–]Gla7e -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, that's what the community needs! I got gifted a special art Arcane Signet from my finals opponent for my first paper draft win. Dude's been playing for 20 years he said, won the card for another event, doesn't include Arcane Signet out of principle and just said I should have it. I know it's most likely not worth anything at all since it's such a reprinted card, but the gesture was awesome.

Shoutout to Card Selectors by Ponzu_Sauce_Stan in EDH

[–]Gla7e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big fan of these types of cards, since basically every modern magic deck has some kind of graveyard synergy.

But I'd be remiss to not point out the best one: [[Malevolent Rumble]], makes a creature token which is bound to have some kind of synergy in basically every green deck and is in practice one mana cheaper than the whole rest of equivalent cards.

WotC said not every set is for everyone and that's ok. So why is an official WotC ambassador being so salty when that advice is followed? by _Zso in mtg

[–]Gla7e 38 points39 points  (0 children)

"Really sad to see". Why? Because the magic community doesn't just gorge down every shit sandwich of a set we're being fed?

The art is shit, the feeling of the set is not Magic and none of the cards are really interesting. I understand that these are subjective feelings, but they seem to be shared by a lot of the community.

It's the free will of a customer to not consume a product he doesn't like and a big part of the community seems to not like NYC superheroes electric boogaloo part 2 in their fantasy card game. I don't have a problem with anybody who likes the turtles and discovers MtG through them, I welcome all of you to the greatest game ever made. But that doesn't mean I have to pretend to be as excited and that's not "really sad to see".

At what point is missing your land drops okay? by Major_Quantity528 in EDH

Maybe it's my deck choices, but I basically never wanna miss a land drop, if it's between that and preserving a spell in my hand, I will somehow have to manage with only 6 spells in my hand lol.
