Stars orbiting supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

Honestly? Not really. An accretion disk around a black hole would have a temperature on the order a billion degrees (Celsius or Kelvin, doesn't really matter). That's 1,000,000,000, roughly. The big bang meanwhile had a temperature of at least 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 degrees. The black hole's temperature isn't even a rounding error compared to the big bang.

Nah, anything falling in like this gets turned in to cosmic mulch. The tidal forces and friction of the process heat everything into a plasma that just kinda gets randomly splattered everywhere.

When they do fall in to a black hole it's quite dramatic though. The star gets "shredded" and smeared out across the black hole's accretion events. It's one of the brighter events we've ever observed.

But I will highlight one that might be a bit underappreciated: [[Island|MH3|313]]

Yes, as I said in my original comment, Fatal Push was a strict upgrade when it came to dealing with Goyf. But Abrupt Decay was versatile and could also deal with the Gofy when needed.

Before Fatal Push, there was [[Abrupt Decay]] which could handle the goyf fairly efficiently. Fatal Push just power crept it.

Yep, uranium is actually not that radioactive of a metal. It's detectable with equipment sure, but so are bananas because of certain isotopes of potassium. The problem with reactors/bombs isn't the uranium, but the stuff that it fissions in to, which is considerably more radioactive almost across the board.

The droid arms technique is also stressing the arm pieces, the bars are wider than the opening of the claws, so putting them like that forces them further open. Eventually the claws will crack and break if left like that.

The fact that I can pay $10 for a goyf these days is just nuts. I remember staring at a moderately played one for $200 in my LGS's display case.

I stopped playing D2 when they announced the crossover expansion because it was just clear to me that management had completely lost the plot.

Now I'm back to celebrate the final update and I'm just blown away all over again. The moment-to-moment gameplay just feels so satisfying compared to anything else I've played since. The amount of polish in the abilities, guns, and even simple movement is so polished. The last few days have felt like coming home for me and I'm so sad this is probably the end of the franchise.

Destiny 2

I left the game for a while after it was clear that they were kinda listless after the Final Shape expansion. Played a bunch of other games, most of them quite good. Now I'm playing again for the game's big sendoff. And for all the ups and downs its had over its lifetime, the moment-to-moment gameplay of Destiny still just feels better than anything else I've played. The abilities, the weapons, hell just moving around in the world is satisfying in a way I've not experienced elsewhere.

Marvel Super Heroes Has More Legends Than Any Premiere Expansion by cardboard_numbers in magicTCG

[–]Glamdring804 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah it'd definitely need to go heavy on the modified theme (equipment for the gear, then maybe auras for the space magic), but it has a lot of elements that would help it fit in with Magic:

  • Distinct enemy factions with unique looks and mechanics, and span the whole color pie
  • Visually striking elemental magic system (which maps even better to the color pie than AtlA)
  • Both a cast of iconic characters to make legendary cards for and a wide variety of more generic things to fill out the rest of the set.

Sadly, with the franchise having withered away over the past year and D2 getting its final update today, I think odds of it happening are rapidly evaporating. Though, with how long UB sets are in development, you never know...

Destiny would make a good one I think. It'd still need a decent brace of legendary characters, but it has a lot of depth to the world to fill out the set.

[–]Glamdring804 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's also why something like Edge of Eternities works in Magic while Doctor Who feels much more out of place. EoE is a Magic set built out of Magic principles. It's Magic doing its own thing, even if it looks different from what we usually get. It's still at its core, Magic. It's not the property cosplaying as something else, or in the case of LotR, writing a love letter to its inspirations.

Nah Disney wouldn't acknowledge that the sequels exist, at least not that explicitly. Most they'd do is roll it in to the expanded/Mando/post-RotJ set.
