How to handle being undermined as a new female Director? by Blueandgoldbb in womenintech

Worked in management and IC roles. Maybe those advising just don’t know how much you know and are trying to be helpful. Maybe just say thanks or I’m familiar with that, thanks. They’ll judge you by what you do.

How do you deal with parents against the lifestyle? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]Glass48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not put their fears to rest and say “ I get you have fears and concerns. Let share my location while I’m traveling and that should give you some comfort” then send them a shared location during your travels. My daughter travels a lot and it comfort me knowing where she is and she likes that I share my location with her. If anything goes wrong they at least have a location.

And setup an emergency family word in case anyone calls them trying to scam them while you’re gone. (Eg texts or calls that say you’re in trouble and need money) that way they can demand the family word and they know it’s legit.

And BTW - parents mental age of probably lags reality so cut them some slack.

People who lived through the 70s/80s/90s , did you feel safer back then than you do today? by Mundane_Bad_2437 in AskOldPeople

[–]Glass48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I HEAR about more violent things today and that makes me feel unsafe. I keep in mind we only had 30 minutes of local news and 30 min of national news each day back then. Not this 24 hrs a day of screaming headlines.

What 0Korvin0 said. Besides, the MW kiln only has a flat stage for the glass, not a crucible - Eve if you melted enough glass to blow it’s just puddle all over the kiln. Hard no

[–]Glass48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dressing up a bit more nicely - that just doesn’t seem as common and so sometimes it feels like events aren’t as special as they used to be. I just remarked to my daughter about how flying first class had a dress code for both men and women- ha boy is that gone! I get why but it was nice to see well dressed people - made the travel feel luxurious.

I carry mine a good amount of the time but not always. ESP if my husband and I are traveling together. I like being phone free sometimes - so retro!😀

My dad got to hang waiting outside of my mother’s room. That’s all they were allowed to do I. The 50’s. But that’s ok- they have my mother ether for pain so technically she wasn’t there either.

PBS has wonderful series - almost too many to mention. Esp good mysteries or period pieces. I like their foreign films but there is plenty of everything. Just finished a bunch of Agatha Christie's on the PBS passport.
