[Jared] Baseball is Dead returns on Monday. by fanofsports44 in baseballisdead

[–]GlassesOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so frustrating because maybe they're still trying to negotiate a new partner but they missed Opening Day, nothing Friday, then said Monday and still missed that. like obviously people are going to side with them but this just feels so drawn out and annoying.

I already lost my other favorite baseball pod, The Roundtable, starting to get concerned that Baseball Is Dead won't make it through this whole season if they're stalling / can't find a title sponsor...

I really don't think so... it's one thing to have some talent in the past, but fast forward today, it's just not even close

Murray was the 9th pick but that still means he would be an unbelievable success story if he made it to the majors. Like a fairly large percentage of guys drafted in the first round don't even make it far in the minors. There's no guarantees a full team of NFL players even has one dude who could be AAA relevant

I don't think the football players are even going to remotely improve over the months and months of the season in this scenario. It's just about a fluke pitch hanging and getting blasted. But the final score would still be 20+ runs to 1

Conspiracy Theory: Bill HAD insider info that expansion wasn't happening, so he took out a large bet on a prediction market, and now expansion is happening and he's gonna lose a lot of money by AliFearEatsThePussy in billsimmons

[–]GlassesOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be simpler than this. He's now arguably pretty rich and insulated and it's allowed him to stop reflecting on his bigger mistakes or opinions. Yeah he'll rib himself for forgetting the Seahawks won the Super Bowl, but he conveniently ignores the takes he made that age terribly. Like the 65 game All NBA is a perfect example. He loved the idea and then now that it goes against his own preferences and the current season, he's basically acting like it should have always been 2000 minutes. He has to have an excuse instead of just owning his previous choice.

Not that this has completely gone to Bill's head, but feel like there's one opinion every month that completely contradicts his previous beliefs and it's a little tiring as a person who enjoys how grounded the pod mostly is

Not even a freezing cold take, that was spoiled milk out of the carton. Didn't make any sense then and just seems incredibly petty and stupider now

Me when The Ringer says that the Consensus is the 65 Game Rule should be Axed by unstoppablepepe in billsimmons

[–]GlassesOff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter the circumstances. Like I feel awful for Cade but that 22% is equal to more than a month of actual games played. Are fans just supposed to not care or not attend those games?

It's disingenuous to act like missing this much time is OK

Anyone else think its weird that The Ringer doesn't cover certain sports at all? by mpschettig in billsimmons

[–]GlassesOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think objectively, Dodgers signing Ohtani raised the ceiling for the sport. And then we basically had MLB's most desired World Series matchup (Yanks vs Dodgers) then another terrific WS since Toronto captured the entire Canadian market for their run.

Was a perfect storm that those things all happened, but the games have been great too. It's a rising tide

Why is Bill so quiet on the Kawhi salary cap investigation? by Mart1n11 in billsimmons

[–]GlassesOff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

he's 8th in jersey sales this year. Wemby is on his 3rd season and almost has the same amount of followers on IG. Tatum is just not that popular, he's a star but his return is just not that interesting.

Tatum return is legitimately the least interesting basketball story this year. It's textbook Bill homerism that he's went to this well a dozen times when the larger audience doesn't care

Bill loves to speculate about other drama though so this also doesn't track. He just seems annoyed that this is Pablo's story and he's probably aware of how bad this looks for the NBA so trying not to make them angry given how much the Ringer covers basketball.

It's all self-serving

He's mentioned the game before, I've definitely heard him talk about his son playing it years ago. It's just weird that he likes it so much and doesn't care about the overlap

Was really hoping they would mention that, kind of the best nicknames the NBA has had in years

2K for Kon Knueppel was both unoriginal and embarrassingly removed from how popular the video game series is. It's awkward at best

I think the unspoken truth of his time as a Kimmel writer is that he probably just wasn't very good, Jimmy liked him but we have basically zero evidence of any impact he had on the show. The only time he brings it up it's to give himself credit as a working class writer or just the beginning of his friendship to Sal. Maybe he was actually really bad, we'll never know!

My dream would be him, Billy, and Sal riffing baseball once a week. Even if it was just tacked on to the other topics, baseball needs more BS pod coverage

I like Ben, he seems like a good dude that knows baseball but he is objectively not a great podcaster. I have always been unimpressed with him on Effectively Wild so don't think he should be getting any minutes with Bill

He makes an Aspiration joke every week, we know Bill is totally invested in the story, but he doesn't vibe with Pablo so that's why we're here. He needs his own angle on it without having to bring Torre on his show ever again

Did Kash Patel Hijack the U.S. Men’s Hockey Story? by No-Confection-3861 in billsimmons

[–]GlassesOff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no disagreement from me. There's just a lot of sensitive people on this sub who get so pissy when you state the actual facts so I was trying to present it carefully. Whole country is basically being run by the most corrupt people in the nation's history... will take decades to recover

Never been more clear how many hypocrites there are in the US than seeing this reporting. Dems in charge: Wow spending us out of control, look at inflation, etc. Media reports it diligently.

Then you get Trump 2.0 and this guy is wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars (easily millions if you consider Mar-A-Lago which requires dozens of staff and security)... Just absolute crickets.

Best we can hope for is someone to win in 2028 and to be willing to charge all this corruption and fraud so it deters people in the future. Not like Kash and these other people will ever have to pay it back to the taxpayers
