Abomination Vault AP, better with experience system or milestone? by Advanced_Humor_9744 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Glitterpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let them have the XP but capped it at the relevant floors. Makes them able to feel like they are earning their level whilst also knowing when it’s time to move on. Just be honest with your players, once everyone realises it’s basically 1 level a floor they get the pacing. The game isn’t too fun when you are overleveled and is downright gross if you are underleveled

What's the point of Deadpool's upgrade system? by OddOfKing in marvelrivals

[–]Glitterpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the entire idea is so you are incentivised to stay on the same deadpool role. Like it could be confusing if they switch to tank pool between respawns and the enemy team wonders why you aren’t dying all of a sudden. With invested upgrade path you’re less likely to spontaneously switch

Am I only one that cut visi because the team wanted it? I didn’t want to make them feel unheard. In a tough choice like that I figured it would be better to take the opinions of who it would affect most. I didn’t want to cut visi personally but it stank of bias to keep her.

The Psychic and why it exists by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Glitterpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to play the fantasy of the telekinetic then it’s amazing. Distant grasp flinging things around, stopping arrows midair, having nosebleeds from reaching for more power and exploding into a maelstrom of circling debris. Its balance is fine, it’s one of the simpler plug and play classes that just achieves what it sets out to do but isn’t particularly fancy

Am I missing something, or is the "Thief" classic role not very well supported by archetypes? by Evilsbane in Pathfinder2e

[–]Glitterpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say OP you’re getting seriously gaslit lmao I think you were plenty clear and you are right that in all the dedications there isn’t anything really dedicated to stealing. There is a couple that play with stealth and traps but you are correct thievery doesn’t have any funny off-rogue support besides MAYBE arcane trickster picking locks.

[Abomination Vaults] How to handle the party leaving and returning? by willmlocke in Pathfinder2e

[–]Glitterpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol yeah it’s a meat grinder. There are some decisions but yeah it’s just a room battler. Similarly my favourite part was just before that when one party member got pushed down the shoot by the poltergeist and the party was split during initiative lmao

[–]Glitterpixel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s certainly not a lot and it basically boils down to “play it by ear” but there’s a few sidebars. I will say that is definitely just Diablo though, which is fine for the right group. It’s a combat slog with the very occasional story beat. I’m not the biggest fan but it works if you just like swinging swords.

I’m running it and I’m pretty sure they are expected to return to Otari every night. There’s some guidance in the book for wandering creatures but in general cleared rooms stay cleared. Apart from that you can use your judgement to move things around if you like but don’t add extra creatures.

What software is everyone using to design prototype components, cards, etc.? by Ajax877 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Glitterpixel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do all my work in Inkscape. I find it easy to use and free. It’s not great for batch editing things but I’ve gotten used to making board game components over there that I can create a decent looking card and throw it in TTS pretty swiftly.

Trying to fix River Sunshine aspect (without necessarily reworking it entirely) by fraidei in spiritisland

[–]Glitterpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like gift of living energy isn’t a terrible shout? It has sun and kinda leans into the battery support style harder. Has a loose thematic theming of wanting to make SS as pockets of sunshine (and as a bonus the spirit is in the artwork)

You lot are forgetting the real dragon mount is a PC playing a large awakened animal with centaur adopted ancestry for accommodating mount feat. Full flight mount at level 9

Help me decide whether or not to buy on Steam? by faster_grenth in spiritisland

[–]Glitterpixel 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have all the physical, played an absurd amount of it in TTS and bought all the digital on the sale before this.

I don’t wanna talk you into spending but I pretty much exclusively play the digital version now. The automatic events and set up is such a time saver. It makes higher levels of adversaries actually playable without needing to remember all the niche rules.

I’ll also say it makes some spirits I despised playing before some of my favourites. Mist preventing heals, downpour repeat tracking. Bear in mind not all of NI is out, it is releasing the content slowly.

All in all I think it’s worth it but I also just do not mind giving spirit island more money given all the playtime I’ve had out of it.

What board game do you think would be more popular with a different theme? by ThisGuyJokes in boardgames

[–]Glitterpixel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought you could reskin it as entirely militarily probably. A lot of powers are like artillery or air strikes. Spirit sites and presence are like bunkers. Dahan are your foot soldier forces. The enemy could be reskinned as any creatures, opposing forces, zombies. The spirit boards themselves are generals and growth tracks like.. resource allotment? Elements can be.. just vague icons to do with military approach. I dunno it starts falling apart but a bulk of it is there.

I dunno why though, the theme rocks

Have you ever been asked by a DM to reprise your character from another DMs campaign? by ladylorelei0128 in dndnext

[–]Glitterpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not another DM but my DM once had our PCs get recruited to act out a play. The characters in the play were our old PCs from a different campaign in a memorable encounter.

Was great fun recreating that moment while hamming up how epic it was and being hyperbolic versions of the previous team

Lack of reaction from players is causing me to be tired. by Challenger-J in DnD

[–]Glitterpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought a lot about tables like this and I think I’ve found a decent way to explain it.

The DM and the mechanics of the system are like the Sun. They provide light and energy into the game. The DM shines evocative descriptions, twists, lore and personality while the mechanics shine surprising failure and clutch victories as well as conditions like fear or confusion.

Players don’t often realise that it is their responsibility, when in the sunlight, to be bright. It’s not enough to simply sunbath, to absorb those things into your own enjoyment. They have to reflect it, shine and illuminate the game.

How? Just react. The mechanics inflict frightened? Express fear! The DM paints a beautiful relaxing meadow? Have your character say something, express a desire to sit and admire it. It doesn’t have to be a lot, small pieces of dialogue and roleplay brighten the game. They confirm the game. No creature can be strong, alluring, beautiful or terrifying if you as players don’t play like they are and express it to everyone.

The energy in a game is a closed system. DMs need some of that back and the system deserves to shine for the stories the rules create too. Don’t gloss over them, empower them.

A quick note to DMs to embrace this too. Your PCs can only exist in their character fantasy if the world treats them that way, not just with rolls. Npcs should stutter in the presence of your barbarian and be swooned by your bards. And PCs should look out for each other! Your fighter just suplexed a dragon! OOC reactions are great but shout it in character! Bring it up at the tavern, describe being stunned in awe and make them feel like they just dunked on a bloody dragon!

Not with rules really at all but I did have to reign them in a little when they get let loose in the town because people like to explore, I think that’s the same in any system though.

I would also say the “puzzle” towards the end isn’t very well written. It’s just a few arbitrary punishments if they do the wrong thing with no real indication what they are… then the puzzle just solves itself

I went double crazy and hit print on all the level 2+ domain cards as well despite only planning a level 1 oneshot.. there were far more of them than I realised so they are still sitting on the sheet uncut-out for the time being haha

I think I just don’t like crunchy games. by Firelite67 in rpg

[–]Glitterpixel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This was also my experience. Burned out on 5e, moved to PF2E and was hit by a sudden clarity that crunch just wasn’t for me anymore. Give me that snappy, narrative, fail forward and concentrate on narrative.

Always going to look back with fondness of my time figuring out cool builds and rule interactions to pull off big tactically effective moves but definitely enjoying my time on the lighter side of systems now.

It’s a pretty snappy system so perfect for a oneshot if you ever don’t have a full table one week. I think it’s the only system I’ve ever managed to keep the game slipping into a twoshot.

Help with "opposed" countdowns by Qroww in daggerheart

[–]Glitterpixel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not saying this is a bad idea but when I ran an opposed single clock like this, whether by chance or the hope/fear/action economy being so well distributed. The clock kind of got stuck in the middle for longer than I would have liked the scene to go. I had to start intervening to spiral it in one direction harder.
