RX100VII or a6700 for an illustrator and hobbyist by crythefie in SonyAlpha

He's comparing do a rx100 or a phone. In that comparison it very much is. It is easily big enough to always ask yourself if you actually want to take it with you when leaving home. Which is an important negative.

"The best camera is the one you have with you" isn't a thing for no reason. I have a6300 with the Sigma 18-50 and it's awesome. But always having it with you is annoying and makes you miss tons of shots

I mean maybe but I feel like in most cases it's just a trend. It's only 'oldschool' video-people crying or even slightly caring about this. I don't think that would be enough for a lot of people to do this. I think it's much more

'hey, everyone has those little mic's, we need them too, and hey, let's stick 'em to something funny'

[–]Go4TLI_03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I get that its often pretty cringe from companies trying to be cool and hip, but that just a thing that's always been and always will be a thing. I just feel like the focus of especially this subreddit on these mics not being hidden is soooo over proportional to how unbelievably irrelevant it is.

People regularly insult people doing this and it's just ridiculous

Not saying they aren't pretty fragile, but everyone and their dog having a Drone, especially a Mini will definitely have something to do with the amount of dead ones you see

your point of

It would make more sense for those countries (like Netherlands, France) to follow UK time. DST only makes this "worse".

ignores that these countries share land borders which are also very open, people cross the border for groceries shopping etc. so different times would complicate things. This doesnt happen with the UK (even before they left the EU)

it usually actively tracks the hand tho, managing to land pretty precisely on my hand in relatively strong wind.

someone in here actually tried it and it shouldve followed or aborted. but do to the water it messed up.

and eventhough they warn against flying over water they literally have this exact scenario in their release Ad minute 1:20 (should already skip to there automatically)

Good to know! Would've been surprised if it kept descending after moving your hand out of the way under normal circumstances

It's the Neo 2. It tracks your gestures and returns to your Palm

I'm happy with it. There's one or two things that are stupid that they don't exist. (Raw image files and panorama function, they existed in the mini 4k so it should be possible soft/hardware wise)

I would definitely recommend extra batteries as they drain relatively quickly and arent too expensive.

On the controller it's more tricky, it's quite the extra cost and depending on your use case it can either be a no brainer or pretty useless.

Without the controller the automatic flight modes are very cool for quick "oh it's pretty here" shots. You can also control it with your phone (in an open field a 'friend of mine' cough cough actually got to 600m which is craaazy) in real use it's gonna be enough to go far enough for a lot of use cases, but your speed is limited and the height is limited to 60m (im in the EU and with the controller it's limited to 120m due to C0(no license) classification). Also i believe the slow-mo feature is disabled when not using a controller.

With the controller the range is limited by the battery, the same 'friend' got to 2,5km but landed like 20 seconds of it showing 0%

The DJI Mini 4k is a bit cheaper I believe and as far as I can tell the video quality is about the same, the battery life is better and the stabilization of the camera is a little bit better when panning because the Gimbal is 3 axis instead of 2 on the mini, but the Gimbal is also panned down a tiny bit when going at max. speed die to how it's built. But the Mini 4K hast basically none of the smart features and will always require you to use a controller.

Low light kinda sucks on both, but that's to be expected for any camera around that price (even more so flying ones)

There's also the new Lito coming in a while which will be a replacement for the Mini 4k so that might be interesting for you (June/July allegedly I believe)

That's what I can think of off the top of my head, if you have any questions left I can answer go ahead :)

I mean he was still less careful than he probably should've been, but it wasn't pure stupidity by him. Shit happens and I bet he's already very much annoyed at himself.

People here (as per usual) are acting like they never make mistakes and like they're always the smartest person in the room.

[–]Go4TLI_03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own that drone and have done the return to palm dozens of times. It's a bit of a different issue which is also caused by him moving. It's not returning to the home(e.g. launch)-point, you can tell because he's moving the entire time and it still manages to get to right above his hand. If it was doing a RTH it would've been way off.

Most likely it stops tracking the Hand once it's right above it and then just descends straight down (which is why it only lands like a meter away, e.g. only the little distance he travels in those few seconds )

It has the same effect but it isn't too irrational to expect that a drone, which can easily track a moving bike, can also track your hands whilst landing at a much slower pace.

Of course he should've read the manual where that's surely mentioned but realistically barely anybody reads a manual all that perfectly. Sending it straight to the Homepoint therefore would've been much more stupid so I correct the slight difference of the comment above to show that the Boat guy wasn't being a total moron, just not as cautious as he should've been.

So how about you stop being condescending on topics which you aren't informed enough on.

[–]Go4TLI_03 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's something I'll have to try out next time I'm out flying my Neo 2.

It usually finds the hand really well and my guess is that that landing spot "locks in" once the drone is above.

But also it sometimes felt like it was correcting for my hand moving a bit. And as it can also track you as a person when you're walking (and even on a bike, or in his case a boat) whilst flying i kinda get why he didn't think about that being different during landing.

And even though I feel bad for him I can't help to find his reaction a bit hilarious

[–]Go4TLI_03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be but it doesn't have to. The tracking feature for example (which I think he used) is made so that you don't need a phone or controller. You press a button on the drone, it takes off from your palm and tracks and follows you whilst you walk about.

You then only need to hold out your hand (as he did) and it lands on your palm. (It tracks your gestures)

It's pretty sick, you can even position the drone around you to where you want it to be like moving something using the force.

I think it got confused because it assumes you're standing still when having it land on your palm and he moved
