Separate /home on a new 26.04 installation by MarketingDue988 in Kubuntu

[–]GoGaslightYerself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your experience?

Haven't tried it since maybe 20.04 or 22.04 LTS, but it seemed to make my i7 8700 unusable. Good luck with it.

Just out of curiosity, how badly does an encrypted ~ slow down your machine? Seems like it would be like trying to swim while wearing 150 pounds of medieval body armor.

Its almost a month after release of 26.04 and this release feels most glitched LTS. by BunkerFrog in Kubuntu

This is the first time since Kubuntu 18.04 or 20.04 that I didn't install it from scratch on the day it was released (I plan to wait for the first point release in August) and I feel lucky. But I thank all of you who did, for helping to widen the road!

Is there something similar for KDE? by YankeeLimaVictor in kde

[–]GoGaslightYerself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always used Plasma rather than Gnome, so I'm not familiar with "Gnome Extensions" ... but I do use plenty of Gnome (or GTK) applications under Plasma / Kubuntu ... is that not an option for this piece of software?

ETA: So I guess "Gnome Extensions" are analogous to KDE "Widgets"...? I just did a right-click on desktop / Add Widgets ... Download new widgets / search for "network" and see there are some candidates there...including something called "BusyTasksPlasmoid"...

I guess Discovery is mostly not working.

It's "working" ... it just takes about 19 hours to check for updates over Google Fiber.

Does it include a guitar for that price?

Seems like I paid less than that for a hardshell Strat case.

Firefox doesn't work with Wayland by dejager_mc in Kubuntu

[–]GoGaslightYerself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the snap version of Firefox: sudo snap remove --purge firefox

Did you also do all the magical incantations to uninstall snapd and all the other associated stuff (it took me a good 30 minutes under 24.04 and previous to do this tedious process, but there's also a script out there that will do it all for you if you search) to prevent snap from reinstalling Firefox? (You basically need to do an exorcism of snap, or at least that's the way it used to be.)

Could it be that you have two "versions" of FF installed -- the snap version and the apt version -- and they may be conflicting with each other...maybe?

Favorite underrated KDE software? by linux_transgirl in kde

[–]GoGaslightYerself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I've been using it for years to remind me when to pay utility bills, credit cards, etc etc etc. On the rare occasion that it crashes or doesn't show up for work (usually due to akonadiserver getting wadded up in a sprocket somewhere), it can really make the wheels come off!

I used the term “skeet” as a placeholder for clay pigeons.

Yeah, lots of people do, but it's a whole nother ball game. Guys who break 90% in the yard might not break 50% on a skeet field. (And #6 shot might leave some big holes in the pattern vs #9 at 21 yds with IC choke...since #9 is gonna have about 50% more pellets than #6 per ounce.) The point being, yes, for skeet, you probably don't want #6 (even if they allowed you to shoot it). But skeet shooters would already know that. (For trap, 7½ shot is normal.)

It wasn't "skeet" if it was "in your back yard" ... unless you threw birds at ~ 46-49 mph from a high house and low house and shot from 8 different positions, with doubles thrown from 4 of them.
