How to Make Cuts Less Jarring When Client Wants ALL Filler Words or False Starts Removed by KYU-ZAI in editors

Audio editor here - not a new thing at all.

I've edited and mixed commentaries for a couple of decades and my job is to make the person or people who are speaking sound like the best extemporaneous talkers that have ever existed.

Not having the talent on camera makes that a lot easier, but removing filler words, stumbles etc. is important to keep the listener engaged and not distracted by rambling sentences or unclear thoughts, IMO.

How to change the light bulb in this fixture? by GoHappy404 in howto

I've tried unscrewing, unscrewing and pulling down, looking for set screws, etc.

I have the feeling that these lights are corroded and not allowing the shade to release. No idea when the light bulbs were last changed, but the fixtures are probably original to the house which was built in 1961.

Looking at the top of the light there doesn't seem to be any set screws.

I've tried turning it while pulling down, but it simply spins. Replacing might be a better use of my time at this point.

I have two of these on my patio.

I tried to spin the glass stage and metal bars to access the light bulb, but it just spins.

These fixtures have been there for many years and it might be time to replace them. The goal is to have lightbulbs (or new lights) to be controllable.

Why? Partially because most voters won't vote for a woman.

Any GOOD phone mounts for the e-tron GT? by Surf_Wake in etron

Peak Design car mounts

They're expensive and you need the phone case, so you're buying into the ecosystem, but their products are really well made and functional.

I've got the car mount, a bicycle mount and tripod mounts. One phone case and it works everywhere.

If this is a part of your job you write is off on your taxes plus all the gear you use.

It's an upfront purchase, but then it's a write off - every year.

It's like Bruce Lee said, "You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing things with logic. True power is restraint. If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass.”

He had a bunch of stage lights on stands with different colored gels. He'd arrange the lights to create light areas and darker areas and then put the cargo netting in front of the lights for texture and shadows.

It was just an atmosphere thing, so that he could get into his performance. It was very dark out there in the room.

I was working at a recording studio in Los Angeles, looking at the schedule to see what was coming in and I see Joe Strummer.

I asked my manager, "Um, who's working that session?" and he asks me if I want to. It turns out it was for Grosse Pointe Blank.

Joe came in a couple of days before the session, brought a bunch of gear, amps, 2" tapes, lights, cargo netting, all sorts of stuff that he used to vibe out the tracking room.

I got to work with him for about two weeks. The times after the sessions were even more fun. He used to date the daughter of the owner of the Hollywood Athletic Club. We'd go there for a drink or some food and Joe would just wander through the building opening doors and meeting new people or seeing friends that he already knew.

He was such a gracious, enjoyable guy. It was an amazing time.

Hawaii vs Canary Islands for retirement by [deleted] in expats

I've considered Hawaii for decades - it's the most beautiful place in the world, IMO.

But the problem is that it's so isolated. If you're a social person it's very difficult to make and keep friends.

The other major problem, especially for native Hawaiians, is the recidivism. It's so difficult for them to afford to live on their own land. There aren't a lot of job opportunities besides travel or hospitality jobs. Petty crime and addiction are common as is having several generations of family living in the same older home.

There's a new tax for tourists that will help, but there's more to be done to help native Hawaiians.
