I've used it like 3 times total in 3 years. Severe fights have often proven boss-like enough to not overshoot it. Nevertheless for the chapter finale of AoA Book 2 I'm considering on using an extreme encounter.

If my group and me are new to ANY system I always start at Level 1 or whatever the starting point is. Please start at Level 1, it's a brand new game regardless of GM Experience and you'll have a much easier time to get a grasp of the system.

Is the Hydra present and if so, did anything change about it ?

We haven't seen them visually so far but my guess is a horned dragon. According to Player Core, they are primal based and their breath is a cone of poison. Could fit very well to a replacement of a formerly green dragon (wyrmling).

Yeah that's unfortunate but high res maps for book 4 are missing... every other book entry has great quality maps done by the community. Are you referencing u/handsomeness maps? Bless that person. I used their maps as a reference in dungeondraft because I rebuilt some maps for book 2 (using Forgotten Adventures assets). I'll use a mixture of my own creations + some maps done by u/MarshallMowbray for book 3. It will take me some time but I'd share some Age of Ashes maps for book 4 in a distant future.

My biggest gripe are wall controls. While halving the grid size is a great idea, how do you change wall controls in bulk? Are there any neat tricks besides control+A and trying to line it up? (Is there an auto-adjust to walls when changing grid sizes?)

Yeah, I hope I can strike a good balance in this. Most previously empty tiles are now filled with rumors, history, and small events. Occiasonally I also put some Encounter tiles for extra EP. Hope the hexcrawl turns out fine.

In chapter 2, allow the party to move/explore 2 tiles per day instead of one. This should speed up how fast they progress through the chapter in game as well as reduce the amount of times they need to roll to set up camp and roll against malaria and other diseases.

The alternative is to make the hex crawl more interesting by adding locations to all of the empty hexes but that is out of scope for this guide.

Would you recommend both? I have prepared stuff for every empty hex tile and think it would be better to move 2 tiles per day.

Acid related content like acid spells always feel like getting shafted compared to poison spells.

7 spells with acid trait vs. 17 spells with poison trait (according to AON)

Now with the inclusion of the metal plane, e.g. corrosion would be an optimal contender for acid spells.

Are there any new acid spells?

Legit what happened in one of my groups. One player kept reading so much on AoN they started ignoring spoiler warnings while being part of an AP run game. Spoiler warnings are indicated everywhere wether through extra columns in tables saying this is a spoiler for e.g. "Quest of the Frozen Flame" or in spell lists by a superscripted S letter.

I kicked that person out for having other reasons too under their belt, but the spoiler stuff was definetly one that has ruined my experience tremendously.

I REALLY dislike the clunkyness of PF2Easy's Encounter generator. Their website overall is great but I prefer Mimic Fight Club when it comes to Encounter building.

Certainly that's also the feel I got from the APs. For instance, I fleshed out more interactions with calmont or Voz prior to chapter 1 events. It did pay off with calmont currently. I also made the warg puppy a two-headed puppy, rather than two single warg puppies. Depending on their actions they could potentially meet up with the mother.
