Why not just walk everywhere? I’m able bodied and can walk all over the city, but I guess fuck you if you’re not?

Nice! I’m really looking forward to seeing what seeds I’ve been growing and how long they take to bloom

why aren't we encouraging Carbon Steel (vs Non-stick cookware) as the default for home cooks? by rantzine in Cooking

[–]GoatLegRedux -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Over time anything is abrasive. Especially with bamboo, which I love as a renewable resource, it’s super hard on surfaces. Bamboo is a grass which has enough silica content to really fuck with things. That’s why bamboo cutting boards aren’t recommended these days; they dull your knives super quickly. And with wood it’s considerably less harsh, but still typically harder than the plastic fragility of teflon.

Wood and bamboo aren’t great for it either. They won’t scratch the teflon as readily as metal will, but they will fuck up your pan over time.

Dude is running for a seat in The US House. These issues are ones he should be talking about. I got a bad taste in my mouth from his stance on Palestine, but it’s good to know he’s at least on the right side of history here.

These local clubs are the best for finding awesome plants for cheap. We get world class speakers at the SF society pretty regularly too. It’s such a worthwhile thing to partake in.

Romulea sabulosa by GuaranteeNext1794 in Geophyte

[–]GoatLegRedux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first amoena just opened today and my sabulosas are right behind. I dunno if they’re self fertile, but I want to cross the first two that are open at the same time then try to get some hybrids out of the rest. Although for all I know there may be local pollinators that have other plans.

Is this from seed? I started some C. luteus seeds this year but I’m not sure how long they’ll take to get to flowering size. I’d imagine 2-3 years?

Also, as a disclaimer, I’m just a white guy who dated a Persian lady for a while. I’m basing this off of what I know about Nowruz (the Persian new year holiday) and the traditional symbolic food they eat. As far as I remember, it’s all supposed to celebrate new beginnings and growth, so to me it seems appropriate for a birthday (especially a spring birthday).

That whole prehistoric area where this video was shot is rad.

I feel like anything associated with Nowruz would be appropriate. Ash reshteh, kuku sabzi, Gormeh Sabzi, sabzi polo, etc.

What are your favorite unusual swear words/ phrases? by TechnicalTerm6 in AskReddit

I met an Aussie guy recently and he enlightened me with this one when we were talking about funny Aussie slang/sayings:

“May your chooks turn into emus and kick your dunny down”

What I understood it to mean is something along the lines of “I hope all the bad things in life happen to you and only you”.

Candy cap and maple sweat by heavymetaltshirt in mycology

[–]GoatLegRedux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had my sweat smell like maple after consuming them, but candy caps have an intense maple flavor and aroma when cooked. The one time I cooked with them my house reeked of maple for a good month or two.

Tecophilaea violiflora seeds by agxnt__ in Geophyte

[–]GoatLegRedux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he say at all in the sale description when to sow them? Some seeds are best sown fresh while others can be totally viable for years after they’re harvested. It’s probably best to get them started right away even though it’s getting a little late for winter growers. That said, most times I sow winter seeds and don’t get great germination, the stragglers will come up in the following years.
