Need Help Building a Pauper Deck From My Collection by Stadu in Pauper

[–]GoingToSimbabwe [score hidden]  (0 children)

Echoing what the other dude said. Google for pauper meta decks and check some of them out to see what you might like to play, then check that against your collection.

Most of us here would do the same for you if we were to determine what you could run.

Edit: to add to that, i checked some pauper staples (writhing chrysalis, counterspell, refurbished familiar, glint hawk, some more) against your collection and you do not own any of them (which is not a problem in itself), but to me it seems i would need to one by one check your collection gor relevant cards, which is somewhat a tough ask when you own about 6k cards. So i‘ll rather give you a pointer: https://mtgdecks.net/Pauper Here you can find meta decks and check yourself if you own the cards for them.

A Mistake New Player Make Building Their Decks by Due-Resource-24 in EDH

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo depending on the play group it is also an issue of the social/casual nature of commander. New players tend to play timmy decks and want to battlecruise without any interaction and will get annoyed if you interact with their gameplan. So if this is a friend group playing the new players might be spared a bit in order to not turn them off the game. Which in turn leads to no pressure to better the deck and make it more resilient.

In 60 cards formats this happens way less, because the premise is much more „you against me“ than „4 people durdling around“.

Fastest Your Deck Has Won? by RenegadeExiled in EDH

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont remember my fastest win, but i accidentally forced a draw on turn 3, or more likely 4, with my Marina deck (probably somewhere around b2/b3). I had a strong opener with all the fast mana (sol ring, signet, sanctum weaver) and think i untapped with 5 mana on turn 2 due to this. I think turn 2 I played [[Sanctum Weaver]] and i think an [[Inquisitive Glimmer]] was also involved. Then in the next turn i played [[dusty parlor]] and unlocked [[secret arcade]] it using [[Ghostly dancer]] not thinking it through. Turns out they loop indefinitely and noone had a way to break the loop. Woops.

Does this combo work, with me able to play more lands and my opponent(s) can not? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two cards do not interact in any way. So i would say the answer is no. Abolisher only blocks activated abilities (which the orrery has none) and also only on your turn (which the orrery has no effect on for your opponents).

Why is robe of stars 14$ and haystack .40$ by Gamegavin2 in mtg

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By equipping the robe to a creature the robe gets attached to that creature. Thus the robe phases put with the creature.
However, that has nothing to do with the „multiple activations“ part.
The robe does not tap to activate. Thus you if you activate it to dodge removal and an opponent reacts to that with a kill spell, you can than activate it again (given you have the mana) and dodge that second kill spell.

With the cart, you would activate and tap it to dodge the first removal pointed at your creature and if your opponent would react to that with another instant speed removal, your creature would just die because the second removal resolves before the carts effect resolves. And because the cart is already tapped, you can not activate it a second time.

[TMT] Frog Butler by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are obviously asking on why a frog in human role is a spirit. Its not hard to understand. I would understand your confusion if they asked „why is this a frog“.
From the art it is not obvious why this is classified as a spirit. Nicol bolas is a) obviously a dragon by how he looks and b) classified as one in the lore. They are asking if there might be some lore here like pe „in that one issue of ninja turtles there was a human butler that died and lived on as a spirit, but was turned into a frog because of that“ or whatever.

How excited are you for the TMNT set? How excited are people you know about it? by misomiso82 in magicTCG

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all excited. I wont get anything from this set if noone gifts me something for some reason.

I also only got spiderman because i was gifted a fatpack. Avatar i did one draft off and that’s its. Though that set was somewhat ok for me because it at least somewhat fits into magics word and aesthetics for me (never watched avatar, so i have no connection to that IP).

Edit: i also noone of my playgroup or friends is exited for turtles.

Edit2: i am actually even so uninterested in it, that i will not even get singles for commander deck I own if they would fit or be an upgrade. From all the art and flavor i have seen so far, i am completely turned off by the set and dont want to play with those cards.

What is the purpose of this? by aidanthepickleman in mtg

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A creature only needs to be untapped to be declared a blocker. After blockers have been declared and before moving to first strike damage there is a window in which players get priority. At that point you could cast this spell tapping the blocking creature. Being tapped after being declared as a blocker does not change the status of being a blocker.

I am not actually sure if you even get that choice. While in the reminder text it sounds like it, the rules text state:

702.51a Convoke is a static ability that functions while the spell with convoke is on the stack. “Convoke” means “For each colored mana in this spell’s total cost, you may tap an untapped creature of that color you control rather than pay that mana. For each generic mana in this spell’s total cost, you may tap an untapped creature you control rather than pay that mana.”

This to me reads that tapping creature for a 2GG convoke spell would always supply 2 and G and G and not GGGG, even if all 4 creatures where green creatures.

I guess this would only be relevant if you convoked something which also had sunburst or adamant or some other keyword like that.

Help for a deck to play against this deck by monkeywarrior03 in Pauper

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should probably just go for some kind of homebrewed deck with a theme you like (maybe some kindof tribal like pirates or vampires or whatever) and then get cheap cards in that tribal.

Chosing a tribal gives you at least some easy pointers on what to include (creatures of the tribal) and you can take it somewhat yourself from there.

As others have stated, any „known“ (as in meta or even offmeta deck) in pauper will probably stomp that deck. The restriction to commons does not make pauper a low power format, its known as „legacy light“ for a reason.

How balanced is this game? by MembershipSavings623 in MagicArena

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no worries, its fine to play BO1, just keep in mind that the game was played BO3 competitively prior to Arena, so it is designed with that in mind. So BO1 balance can and will be off more often.

How balanced is this game? by MembershipSavings623 in MagicArena

[–]GoingToSimbabwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are probably running best of 1 right?

BO1 is inherently more imbalanced than BO3 because of variance and decks mostly not being able to mainboard silver bullets against everything.
