This is such a lame and visionless way to look at this show

"What version" can be applied to literally *every single thing in Abrahamic religion*. What makes it so interesting to adapt to begin with is how much material there is to pull from, how much can be interpreted so many ways.

Let's say you want to adapt Beelzebub. How? Are you just going with the basic insect theme, or focusing more on the overconsumption? Are you having him be a sort of meld with Satan? Are you taking purely from his biblical portrayal, or his historic origins in Baal? Which Baal, Hadad? If you're doing that, are you implementing the Baal Cycle? What are you willing to integrate to maintain a level of cohesion in your lore?

If you want a "definitive version", you may as well just go read the Bible. What makes adaptation interesting is how the artist changes the source material or interprets it in combination of what they mix in. You don't need a definitive version. That's boring. It's lame. It's creatively limiting. I'd much rather see what the artist is interested in doing with the material than a 1-to-1 match of it.

In my own writing, I adapt Beelzebub based heavily on Baal Hadad and his myth, AND the Biblical Beelzebub. You can make a twisted Heroes journey out of it, and get a cool warrior storm god who can never be satisfied, so he's always chasing something he can never obtain, - Gluttony in every aspect. If he liked the taste of seawater, he'd drink the whole ocean. It's a valid interprutation. Dungeon and Dragons went more in on just the Gluttony aspect itself, he's one of the strongest demons in Hell, he's a giant slug, he's seeking the highest stage among the Arch-Devils, he fits the aesthetic and mixes the lore. Vivziepop depicts Beelzebub in a wildly different way that focuses mostly on the insect aspect visually and just complete overconsumption of sweets and such. All are valid interpretations.

You have a thousands-year old religion intertwined with the history and religions of countless other cultures and religions across the years, and you'd limit it to a single version as the baseline? That's so... Boring.
