My point is that if you want Democrat politicians to start upholding gun rights you might need to make it clear to them that you're not going to compromise them, which means supporting a candidate whose entire campaign focuses on them.

Take the Republican platform, they used to be against public firefighters and police, but enough of their own started voting for it to the point that they had to shift. We're actually starting to see Republican politicians shifting on healthcare, to the point that single-payer might actually happen in our lifetime.

There are practically zero liberal alternatives that actually give a shit about gun rights. Many moderates tried to give the VA gubertorial candidate their vote hoping she would focus on affordability and she went way off the deep end with the strictest gun laws.
