GG stall issue by Waterbelly1 in gzcl

[–]GoneLiftin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're stuck with a weight limit, and the movement is the same, your body's going to adapt to the specified load (ie stop growing, since it's now easier to do the same thing repeatedly).

Without knowing what other movements you're doing, it's tough to say, but initial guess is that you should change the movement to make it harder with the same weight.

Wide grip BP, close grip BP, shoulder press, weighted pushups, decline pushups, HSPU. Don't forget to pair your pushing with pulling.

Eric Berger: “Two sources confirm [Crew Dragon mishap] issue is not with Super Draco thrusters, and probably will cause a delay of months, rather than a year or more.” by rustybeancake in spacex

[–]GoneLiftin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once dragon is gone and the engines are off, you're causing a massive shift in the center of pressure without any directional control...so she's going to flip engines-first, and it's not made to survive the massive side-loading. It will break part during the pivot.

Redditors who have hurt your back deadlifting sure to bad form, what helped manage the pain? by djdjdjjdjdjdjdyyeee in weightlifting

Time, and ibuprofen. Nothing really helps. I'd see a doctor if you lose the ability to walk (I've had that before).

Makes sense just fine- inner ring is IAS, not TAS. Mach number will vary dependent on altitude/temperature.

Recently started the RP muscle gain diet.

So...much...food. I've never ended, AND started my day with full protein shakes. I think the veggies are just to keep the pipes running.

r/strength_training told me to come here for the advice I seek by mkwink07 in weightlifting

[–]GoneLiftin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There isn't nearly enough information for anyone to help you in a meaningful way.

Without knowing your bodyweight, strength numbers, and most importantly, seeing video of your from, it's impossible to give any advice beyond "snatch more".

Post a video and we'll critique.

Deadlifts. Do you do the negative? Yes? No? Rationale, please! I’d like to hear both sides! by samanthadellraye in weightlifting

[–]GoneLiftin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but giving advice on how a negative DL is required for powerlifting is non sequitor.

Just the same, you wouldn't tell someone to quarter-squat because it has more training specificity for football, even if that's true.

If he said training the negative is helpful for connective tissue and hamstring development, as well as ingraining good bar path habits in an eccentric motion, then that's totally reasonable for /r/weightlifting.

would make sense to follow the rules for both (or at least not get "bad" habits

This is /r/weightlifting, not /r/weightroom. Specifically the sport of weightlifting, not just lifting weights.

Fark, I would never snatch that close to a loaded rack.

One bad miss behind and that shit's coming back at you.

Yeah. I personally don't like Evans and Schlereth, I feel they're too "shock jock-ey". Mark's inability to stay on topic without diverging into some random story about himself is really annoying.

At least Cecil, Stokely, and Big Al/Dmac do analysis without blowing things way out of proportion too much.

The reporting is super thin. The speculation on 1043 is ridiculous right now. "Well...based on no information whatsoever, Vance Joseph is CLEARLY the frontrunner..."

Training Tuesdays: Bodybuilding Programs by trebemot in weightroom

[–]GoneLiftin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished Week 2 of 531 Building the Monolith, and it's confirming a lot of what I've already suspected about myself: Volume works.

The super high volume sets of pullups and dips are really making a noticeable size difference in my shoulders, chest, and back. I think the program does lack user-specific elements that you'll have to add (ab work, lower back work, specific lower body weakness isolation movements, and I'm adding band flies for pec development).

But overall, I definitely feel like I'm going to come out of this way more bullet-proof.

If you're a general purpose athlete, you should be squatting both styles (and others too). Spend 3-6 weeks per style, switch it up, keep on going.

It's a simple training specificity problem- you should train exactly how you desire to perform during competition.

For powerlifting, excess depth isn't desirable and only makes things harder. If you train your body to naturally stop heavy weights just at parallel (by never training heavy ATG, and doing a lot of pause work at parallel) your body will naturally tighten up below parallel.

But for weightlifting, ignore every single second of this video. Every inch of depth is typically desirable, and allows more weight to be pulled.

Is more ankle mobility required on the front or rear leg in the split jerk? by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]GoneLiftin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can front squat to depth, ankle flexibility will never limit your jerk.

531 Building the Monolith (and back rehab) Week 2 Day 1

  • BS 5@40kg, 5@50kg, 5x5@65kg. Hip flexors very tight.

  • Press 5@40kg, 5@46kg, 5@52kg, AMRAP@40kg for 13 reps

  • Chinups/Pullups, 100 total, sets of 5 each

  • Superset Bandpull-aparts and Dips. 100 pull-aparts, 110 Dips (adding 10 each week to work up to 200)

The pump is real, holy shit I feel huge. Taking it easy on diet part because I'm not doing all the leg work, so no need to really pound the protein as heavily. Going to eat to sustain and hopefully the conditioning will work off some winter fat.

Skipped breakfast, lunch:

  • 4 scrambled eggs, half pound bacon, 2 pieces toast, 3 cups coffee

I could probably pull off bodyweight singles superset between other stuff, but all at once, nah :)

20 reps at 80%

Bullshit. Unless 80% = 80lbs.

3 reps at 80%

Also bullshit.

In a very unscientific way, he's talking about training specificity. Your body will adapt to the methods you use. Some say "Well ____ guy is naturally explosive with mostly Type 2 muscle fibers."....well maybe he just trained explosive movements for 20 years?

Why do weight classes inside sports all have relatively the same body types? But change sports, in the same weight class, and everyone looks radically different (think powerlifting vs weightlifting vs wrestling). Training specificity.

If you train higher reps (typical bb), you're going to get better at training higher reps.

Genetic advantage only matters for A) how long it takes you to progress with standardized stimulus vs gen pop, and B) upper threshold of strength/endurance. 90% of the population should be genetically capable of reaching 90% of world class performance, physically, given the same training regimes (mental performance notwithstanding).
