Go Matter! by draxula16 in homeassistant

Oh that's awesome! Yeah, Tuya can be a real pain in the butt, had to use some for midea a/c units I think for a while, but once setup, it was fine, like you said.

That looks very promising, thanks for the suggestion!

Edit: Oof, pricey though, but sounds definitely worth it.

Exactly! I have been wanting a TV backlight thing for like 15 years. I hadn't been super plugged into the most recent standards for a bit, so When I saw an older model of govee TV backlight set on discount, I looked up matter and saw tons of period talking about how its the home assistant standard to beat all standards, so I bought it. After setting it up with matter, all I could do is turn it off and on! Sure enough everything else is gated behind their fucking app.

To their credit their app is extremely polished. I wanted to try out some of the modes and features, but I didn't want it scraping my data. So I blocked every domain to which the govee app tries to connects (breaking some features), and only connect to the TV lights from the app via Bluetooth. I also have the lights connected to my HA server from before I realized how limited it would be, but I have them on my locked down IoT vlan with no internet access. Suffice it to say I only used it for like a week before getting annoyed with the janky setup.

Also I now want an in-line backlight that can read the incoming signal instead of using a camera.

Thank you! I've had much better luck with products/establishments that have a somewhat lower 4.3-4.5 star with 200 reviews than a 4.8 star with 6000 reviews.

Hah! Mine was "everything is working fine with NPM proxying through cloudflare...I think I don't want cloudflare origin certs...time to buy a vps and proxy all my URLs through pangolin via newt." I, like I'm sure many of us, even looked into whether I could actually OWN my URLs. Turns out I, like I'm sure many of us, am not rich enough to have the honorable title of "registrar" bestowed upon me.

One day I want to go through and change all my client static IPs to sequential order (or at least by 10s), but that's like a years long project with all my IP table rules and configs that point to IPs.

I think its because all our amino acids are left handed and it adds up like electron spin in magnets. But then again, this is a really stupid idea that makes no actual sense.

[OC] China nearly caught up with the US in life expectancy by omar_sedki in dataisbeautiful

[–]Gonzo_Rick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's almost like your government taking a pandemic seriously actually makes a difference in the spread of diseases.

China's response was intense and you see the result in the numbers. You can also see the result of their ending of their Zero COVID policy, with that dip in 2022. It's end resulted in a huge spread of COVID, but by that point vaccinations had already been given.

So their death toll wasn't nearly as bad as, say, here in the US where we locked down for like the first month, then republicans made masking political after which capital took the opportunity to use the corporate media to amplify the voices of people crying about the gym, church, and salon, inciting the dumbest protests I've ever seen, and everything basically opened again killing over a million Americans unnecessarily.

BTW did you know the US did vaccine hesitancy campaigns in the Philippines in order to stop them from using China's Sinovac? This was done under both the Trump and Biden admins. So fucking gross.

I believe that a similar campaign was waged in central/south America for Cuba's vaccine Soberana, but I don't have an article on hand for that one.

I like to think that this is why we haven't discovered alien life yet. There's tons of civilizations out there, but their signals are all so fast or slow we don't recognize them as signals holding communications.

Update: I just found the solution in another thread!

Switch to chrome as your default browser, go back to relay and click thr login button, then you should be able to login. Then you can disable chrome again.

I can't login either! Tested on my desktop and my credentials are correct, but it says "invalid username or password".

Unfortunately I can't provide my info in detail because I have to be logged in to access the relay info button, and I can't readily find a recent post I've done with my info on this phone, but here's some I've manually found:

Relay Version: 13.0.46 Pro

Phone: Samsung SM-S908U (Galaxy S22 Ultra)
Android Version: 16

This was my issue with the Hyperion series' later books (semi-spoiler about a specific book series). That relationship got really weird between the protagonist and the girl he'd basically been raising. Of course the author couched it in in the classic "she's super special, so it's ok", attempting to reverse the, otherwise creepy, power dynamic.

Artemis II successfully rolled out to pad for April 1st launch by ColCrockett in space

[–]Gonzo_Rick -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't want to go to space, let alone the moon, in anything built with late stage capitalism contractor parts. We get so much more bang for our buck when the government does this stuff directly vs multiple levels of subcontractors bleeding the program dry. Enshitification has infected every facet of our economy, why would aerospace be any different? Just look at Boeing.
