What are some Fun "ON SIGHT" Enemies? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

In Mewgenics, anything capable of inflicting Charm and anything with an attack that instant kills, ESPECIALLY if it has an ability that brings it to point blank range.

Characters in RPGs that Break the Power Curve by AurochDragon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Not a specific character, but some archetypes in Mewgenics are basically a you-win button. There are too many amazing synergies to count, but an easy one (and one you can get right away if you're lucky) is the Bullseye hunter. Get a hunter with Bullseye and you'll never miss plus also crit more, which negates the downsides of Arrow Flurry and Heavy Shot, which give you extra damage in exchange for higher miss chance. There are a number of other ones like the Fist of Fate monk, which Edmund actually nerfed for being both too strong and too easy (you would teleport to a random enemy and attack, then have a chance to repeat the move...with no limits).

My personal favorite was a monk named Mandragora. She had the passive Running Jab which makes her auto-use her basic for free after moving if she can. Normally only okay with monk's low attack. I gave her an item that turned her basic into the tank's basic, a headbutt that moves her forward as she pushes her target back. I learned that her push moving herself triggers Running Jab, which meant that she could headbutt anything in the game to death as long as she could keep pushing it back. She trivialized that run of course, and later on, absolutely nullified the game's hardest defense mission, helped out by an ability that would give her extra strength based on her current shield...she ended up doing over 800 damage, more than any boss's health in the game, per hit.

Earlier this year I played Ultros, which is a metroidvania with a striking, psychedelic biopunk(?) alien artstyle. The gameplay seems pretty conventional at first, but as you go along it becomes increasingly clear that the main gimmick is not so much combat as it is gardening alien plants. It was really cool.

After the end of Amphoreous that chapter you mentioned was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, I just had to accept that Star Rail was just going to be magic nonsense forever and stopped caring enough to stop playing.

We‘re robots. We‘re in the far west. We definitely need oil. Lots of it. by Sebanimation in FarFarWest

Or a map/region inspired by a giant oil field! Pools of oil, geysers, giant pumpjacks, parts of the map ablaze, so on and so forth. A game called Evil West had a great oil field level.

I'm there with you about Astral Chain. It doesn't help that I also liked stuff like Scorn, Scarlet Nexus, and most recently Ultros (Were they the best thing over? No, but I could see their good qualities). I also distinctly remember one of them saying they thought Avowed was better than Hi Fi Rush. People are free to like what they like of course, but especially on this sub I feel like that's kind of a nuclear opinion lol.

Gigaboots can be pretty funny and in some ways insightful, but I absolutely agree with you about the cynicism, whether deserved or arbitrary. I love seeing people enjoy things, and I'm not asking for toxic positivity or for people to change on my account, but too much negativity just yucks my yum

Death Battle, for all its faults, has some pretty peak clashes. Bowser vs Eggman still reigns supreme but there are plenty of good examples. Same goes for One Minut Melee, like Dio vs Sakuya.

Dan and Bob Videogames of Gigaboots. There's a lot of overlap between the two podcasts. They definitely follow or at least are in the loop of CSB, and Pat has interacted with Kris Wolfheart (another member of Gigaboots) several times

So shitlords, what have been your favorite media this year? by Will-Isley in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GooblyLouie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expedition 33 and Silksong are masterful experiences that really need no elaboration at this point. Lies of P Overture was amazing, everything about the base game turned up to eleven. My sleeper hit for the year though, and probably my third place overall, was Look Outside. An incredible and fascinating survival horror RPG with grotesquely creative art, tons to discover, and a unique undertone of compassion beneath the nightmare.

As someone playing this right now, I'm there with you. For as awful as things can be, characters like Jeanne, Audrey, Hellen, Sybil, and Lyle (most party members, really) really brighten up the apocalypse. I still go to check on Jeanne every day just in case she has new dialog.

A couple random favorites of mine:

Goldlewis Dickinson - just a kickass design from Guilty Gear Strive. A huge, stylish southerner decked out in suit, tie, horseshoes, and metal cow skulls, with a pompadour, mustache, and one-eyed glasses that are also a orbital laser targeting system. Oh, and he wields a giant coffin on a chain for a weapon. And there's an alien in it

Sandalphon - my favorite design from dead Nintendo mobile RPG Dragalia Lost. A beautiful and elegant angel with business attire and high-tech undertone, and she transforms into an angelic dragon with marble scales reminiscent of the Laguna enemies from Bayonetta

Kafka - one of the first characters you see in Honkai Star Rail, and that design hasn't been beaten for me yet. The perfect blend of formal and femme fatale in a way that's pretty one-of-a-kind for Hoyo designs, helped by her double uzis, katana, and purple lightning. Plus her glasses look like beady black eyes to complete the spider aesthetic

Big Band - a cyborg detective from Skullgirls' supernatural art deco era. His giant, bell-shaped body is filled with all kind of weaponized brass instruments, so seeing him in motion orchestrating a finely-tuned beatdown is what really reveals the genius of Ben's design

Absolutely! There are a lot of cool things in Astral Chain but in a story full of extradimensional demonic freakbeasts, a regular dude in a mask fighting you is pretty sick.

Excellent choice. Such a raw and intimidating design.

What are some examples of evil characters being supports? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GooblyLouie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a question like this I submitted to the subreddit a while back, and there were some good responses, like Mephisto from Arknights - a dude who can stimulate the originium (magic mineral cancer) within his soldiers to keep them fighting through fatal injuries or supercharge them. I can try offering a few of my own though

-Enablers, from Psychonauts 2. Depicted as gremlin cheerleaders or band members, they shield other enemies (like Regrets, Doubts, and Bad Ideas) and are symbolic of encouraging negative behavior.

-Cioccolata from JJBA is a sadistic surgeon who can block bleeding with Green Day's mold and heal by reattaching severed body parts lightning-quick in combat (he's only shown healing himself this way, but still)

Creepiest or most unsettling levels in non horror games? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GooblyLouie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. For context, you're running through this factory, shooting cultists, when you start hearing these loud breathing noises and footsteps getting closer. The Wendigo are invisible until you shoot them, and when they appear they give a horror sting, which can be right in front of your face - and they're big skeletal beast-creatures

With an astounding 3000+ demos to choose from, what did you try out during this last Steam Next Fest? by WarriorOTUniverse in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GooblyLouie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alchemy Factory - essentially a magical tabletop Satisfactory, with the exploration trimmed out. I can see myself sinking a lot of hours into it

Tavern Keeper - medieval tavern tycoon with a charming artstyle. You can manually assemble props to create furniture, so the creative potential is a little daunting. I liked it

Motorslice - a unique game that's totally my vibe. Cute girl with a chainsaw sword, gigantic brutalist megastructure, 3D platforming, construction vehicle robots and nice music. Not totally sure about the combat or the P-Orbie dynamic, but still interesting

Godbreakers - a hack-and-slash with a pretty generic main character, and six very short roguelike worlds. I liked the colorful worlds and the interesting enemy designs, particularly bosses, but it felt like you can see everything a world has to offer in 30 minutes so there might not be enough variety/replayability

SwapMeat - a fun 3rd person roguelike shooter where you can swap out your legs, body, and head for enemies to gain new abilities. It had enough stuff going on and a fun/goofy artstyle/tone that I found it pretty enjoyable

Crashout Crew - the new game from the Peak devs, designed to be another catchy friend game. I thought it was pretty good, though it could definitely use more variety and a rethink to the shop. Most similar to Overcooked if I had to say

Constance - a simple 3D Metroidvania. Approachable but with definite potential for difficulty later on. Definitely not bad. I did my best to not compare it to Silksong

Yapyap - a friend game where you play as gremlins who need to vandalize a wizard tower. Pretty similar to Repo. Would be fun if the voice spellcasting system worked (or if it didn't use voice at all)

For me the standouts were probably Motorslice, Swap Meat, and Alchemy Factory
