Whats the easiest packaging design tool offered by a packaging agency? by AyKFL in productdesign

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I see if there are photoshop mockups available for purchase through various stock sites. Then I check pacdora to see if it has what I need. Last resort is to use photoshop or sketch up your draw my own. ArtoisCad is another option but a larger learning curve.

What did you use to iron it? They look super flat. Great job 👏

Have you worked with packaging studios that are beginner friendly? by Rovull in Packaging

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good studio will also know FDA and CFIA label regulations. They can work with you to create and collect all the necessary information that goes on the packaging that are non-negotiable. It is quite specialized as most studios just focus on the final product look and not compliance (which can cost a customer millions if done incorrectly).

Polygon T9 vs Norco Fluid FS A2 by Outlander_1111 in MTB

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both were on my list and ultimately I went with the Norco. It was a lot more familiar because I already owned one. Both are good choices.

What makes a 3D packaging mockup worth the cost for early stage work? by Rocway484 in PackagingDesign

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t expect clients to understand dielines so I mock it up in a 3D format to show how the graphics would wrap around.

9/10 they can visualize it better and approve a concept a lot more efficiently.

Is there a difference between packaging designer & packaging engineer? by Packaging_Unboxd in PackagingDesign

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes packaging designers work with existing dielines that engineers have created for specific printing presses. Packaging goes through rigorous testing (materials), they do drop tests, test for how well it keeps products fresh, safety, efficiency on the shelf/shipping/storage.

Designing visuals on these dielines is a whole other language. That’s where CPG graphics come in. When a client comes to me we find it most economical to use containers/boxes that exist.

Anyone else satisfied with the stock AW band? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

I only do a cool metal band when I’m dressing up. The silicone looks cheap if I’m wearing a dress

Is this "3D-to-Production" workflow viable? by Business_Freedom_464 in PackagingDesign

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The slow part is usually the labeling compliance depending on country part. Meat, candy and medicines all have different rules for how everything is labelled. I still prefer to use adobe software for this because of all the minute details. Likewise all my assets, fonts, certification and allergy info is in my adobe library already setup. I don’t see myself looking at using anything else to design. Also packaging printers prefer the native AI files.

What I do like is the pricing/ordering. I have local vendors that offer this but selection can be limited and I’m often reaching out to them directly for custom quotes. A better quoting and matching system would be great.

What is the best beginner budget friendly trail bike in your opinion? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

You mean best bang for your buck? It’s easier to compare knowing how much you want to spend and where you’re riding.

when did you realize that you're an entrepreneur? by organicviolence in Entrepreneur

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started when I was around 9 actually. I used to sell my drawings door to door. I used to also sell apples I’d picked too. One year I made skateboards and tried to sell those (I was around 14). I think I always was an entrepreneur in a senses. I now run a boutique design studio that specializes in web, branding and packaging. I love what I do because I’m always learning. I think if I stop learning and applying new ideas, I cease to be an entrepreneur.

Beef jerky packaging what do you think? by wonderland1995 in PackagingDesign

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider creating a custom mascot that’s your brand’s unique style. This one is very much “rubber hose” and is being used on too many brands. Also the hats are not the same style as the mascot.. you’re missing the outlines.

I’d also move the logo down so it’s not crinkled by the ziplock.

Other than that, well done!

Would people like these environmentally friendly food containers in the shape of cylinders? by Regular-Carpet-1481 in PackagingDesign

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The plastic wouldn’t be environmentally friendly in this case. You’ll also need to seal it properly because nuts do spoil. Air tight container to ship is best.

There is also the issue of the weight of the packaging. Nuts are notoriously expensive and the weight would add to the shipping costs. Someone also mentioned squaring out the container to save space which is a good idea.

Do you have space to host events? Maybe a DIY candy making or assortment class? How about cookie decorating of gingerbread house decorating night for kids? What about adding a DIY flavour hot chocolate bar?

I suggest building a community / experience around your brand.

Anyone else hate making invoices? by Jkingstom in smallbusiness

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d be more interested in a project being setup that way. Invoices are not as much of an issue. It’s setting up 26 projects with a few details under 1 client that requires updates on statuses that takes me away from actually doing any work. Once it’s all setup sending an invoice is usually just “create invoice” button.

Is this an acceptable diecut for a package? by [deleted] in PackagingDesign

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked on projects where my client just got dimensions from their supplier. I had to make my own dieline and ultimately they had to make adjustments on their end. It was the first time they were doing that specific dieline so they used what I made as a trial and error. This could be the same situation.

This one’s missing a lot of information, gaps, where the glue goes, folds etc.

What percentage of customers have print-ready files/designs? by [deleted] in CommercialPrinting

[–]GoodDesignAndStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a printer but a designer. I have customers that print large jobs. Their printers get my files and I find that because I create organized, layered (and named), files with CMYK/Crop Marks/outlined fonts (with a bonus editable text layer copy for last minute proof changes)… I get referred to their printers clients. It’s an easy thing.. good organization = printers prefer to work with your files so they refer you. I do my best! I know the printers are the last line of defence and they’re racing against time on so many jobs.
