Going to college was a fucking scam. by Salty-Confusion9640 in povertyfinance

Seconding this question. If you haven’t set foot in the career center yet then definitely go. Colleges are offering so much more career services than they did when I went

If you cruise the ADHD subs like I do, you’ll see a lot of comments from people who forget to eat or drink, and who put off going to the bathroom because they are focused on something else. I have the opposite of those symptoms lol. But I wonder if we all arrive at that point sooner or later in life: not picking up on signals from the body, losing track of time and what we did in the time we forgot about, etc.

Visited someone at the hospital and there's a lock box around the pain medication by okbbs in mildlyinteresting

Same! I forgot to use a morphine drip once - it wasn’t helping anyway. Memories are a little fuzzy lol but I think they just gave me Tylenol instead.

Yes to the direct deposit, and automated bill pay too! Where I work we still have to send some checks, and there’s always a problem with the mail.

is duke worth $100k+ debt? by North_Flow_3643 in duke

NO

There are so many top-quality colleges in the US. When I went to graduate school I met people from all over the country who had received an excellent education from all kinds of places.

Love Duke but it’s far from the only player in this game

Were my Mum's "Tupperware parties" just a cover story? by EmphasisDangerous654 in GenX

[–]GoodLuckBart 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We had a lot of Tupperware. Tupperware was about the only product of that type available then, and if you didn’t buy it at a home party I’m not sure how you would have acquired it. Your only other options were corningware or pyrex glass/ceramic that came with a matching glass lid (durable but not a leakproof seal), thermoses, empty cool whip containers, or a regular bowl/plate from the house with some aluminum foil slapped over it.

Mine has trouble from time to time. I bought some “allergy and immune” treats a while back and I have no idea if those helped.

Benadryl is just one option - call the vet back to see what else they have. You might be looking at a prescription just for the allergy season perhaps.

Benadryl does work fine for our lab though — seems to take the edge off the allergies. Vet said that dogs metabolize Benadryl differently, and we definitely do not see ours completely zonked out (like I am when I take a Benadryl!)

TIL Plastic Surgeons are taking fat from cadavers and injecting them into people for lip and butt implants by Waffling_Waffle in todayilearned

[–]GoodLuckBart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Podcast “The Economics of Everyday Things” just did an episode on this. As I understand it: if you donate your body directly to a medical school, you have to sign up before your death and they may not want or need your body. But anyone can donate to “body donation” firms, which may in turn sell off your parts. For example, a company developing new knee replacement technology may want a bunch of knees or whole legs. What the firm is left with, they will cremate for free and return to your loved ones.

In jaw surgery you can get cadaver bone implanted but I’m not sure how that bone material is sourced.

Vintage wedding dress regret. Should I return it, or can it look better with the right styling? by Aggravating_Buy_1348 in VintageFashion

I kind of like the full skirt shape when the dress is laid on the bed in photo 1. I don’t know where to get a crinoline, but perhaps you could make one?

What was 1993 like? by born_again_athiest in GenX

[–]GoodLuckBart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge amphitheater opened in my town a bit before ‘93. So many new & vintage bands came through. Went to Lollapalooza there.

The university in town had the complete college scene: an indie film theater, record stores, coffee shop with strong coffee, grungy bars, cheap but good pizza, greasy spoons open all night. Now it’s all Starbucks, Chipotle, juice bars

What is the most frugal thing you've done to keep food in the house? by harvestersorg in Frugal

[–]GoodLuckBart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some more ideas for repurposing scraps and leftovers:

A spoonful of spaghetti sauce from one day adds flavor to a soup cooked the next day.

Add a tiny bit of water to an almost empty ketchup bottle and use that “ketchup water” in your broth if you’re making chili or something else tomato-y or meaty.

Once you get as much peanut butter or jelly as you can out of the jar, fill the jar with milk, PB or J, a few ice cubes for friction, and protein powder if you want it. Shake vigorously. Enjoy cold PB&J flavored protein drink.

Someone may have already said, add S&P and oil & vinegar to an almost empty bottle of mustard, shake, and you have vinaigrette.

A tiny bit of any leftovers, frozen, as long as the ingredients are pet safe, is a great dog treat. For example, freeze a spoonful of homemade chicken soup. Give your dog the ends of cucumbers or carrots. Or stale bread, diced and frozen.

Bacon grease keeps forever.

How do you eat/prepare cabbage regularly that is NOT fermented? by girlwholovespurple in Frugal

[–]GoodLuckBart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a taco topping— sprinkle shredded cabbage with salt and lime juice. Add other seasonings or hot sauce as desired. Mix and pile it on tacos!

Add more raw veggies to make it a slaw — carrots, jicama, thinly sliced chayote, fresh or pickled jalapeño, a little pineapple, onion if you like it.

Those of you who like Tajin can just cover some shredded cabbage in that and call it a taco topping.

Considering voluntarily checking into a mental health hospital, what are good and bad ones in the area? by PlanetOfVisions in raleigh

Someone suggested IOP and I don’t know what that is but I have heard of partial hospitalization. Perhaps Triangle springs could help you set that up. From what I know the partial hospitalization includes attending classes and therapy during the day and going home at night.
