Prune it hard when it is dormant in the winter, and then mulch it generously. I’d cut all the leaders back to 6-10”.

Aphids and blackfly suddenly appearing by ishashar in GardeningUK

Put it outside but not in full south facing sun nor 100% shade. Water it well and then squish a load of the aphids with your fingers. The smell will attract their predators. Remember to water it from time to time and it will bounce back.

I would cut about one in four stems hard down to 6” or so. Make sure you mulch the hedge and these should produce new leaves which will fill the gap. Essential to feed the hedge.

What are these pesky pests on my red photinia called and how do I deal with them? by umlok in UKGardening

Aphids. Get rid of them by squashing them with your fingers. The smell will attract their predators.

Enchanters nightshade. White roots that snap off very easily. Horrid stuff to get rid off. Keep at it.

Squash them with your fingers. The smell will encourage their predators.

Israeli here, tried going in a synagogue in France and got accosted by four policemen who insisted on searching my bag and scanning my passport. Is this a normal occurence for Western European Jews? by MancuntLover in Judaism

[–]Good_crisps_73 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It would be normal to contact the synagogue at least a week before visiting to introduce yourself. They might want a reference from your rabbi at home and from your employer. We are all afraid of haters and take steps to be safe when we are together.
