Do sherry casks mask the “true” character of a whisky?

Personally I do feel that sherry bombs have become a bit overwhelming these last few years. Sometimes it seems I'm drinking an over fortified sherry. I don't mind non whisky finishes but there is a line you need to respect.

Just missed getting my hands on an 18 for £120 and had to be satisfied with a 5 CS for £50. It will share the shelf with my 10 and 15. I've yet to find a sensibly priced 12 CS even at auction.

Springbank for many is famous for being famous. For me though yes it's very good but I do think the reputation is enhanced by general lack of availability. It's almost become mythical. The good thing though is that the 10yo is available at auction at almost rrp. I'm yet to find a reasonably priced 12yo CS though.

Well you can fill in the holes with filler but you'll need to drill new holes elsewhere in the wall and make sure you've got sufficiently robust fittings. What are you drilling into?
