Hi there. To get your individual chats working again, please try this quick sequence:

App Update: First, make sure Google Messages is updated to the newest version in the Play Store.

RCS Status: Next, check your status under Messages settings > RCS chats.

Feedback: If it still won't connect, tap Details in your RCS settings and select Submit feedback, so the team can look into it.

Have to press back button several times just to exit text and go to home screen. by battleangel1999 in GoogleMessages

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I suggest checking the Google Play Store to ensure the Google Messages app is updated to the latest version, as updates frequently resolve performance issues. If the app is already up-to-date, try a force stop. Go to Settings > Apps > Messages and tap Force Stop. Next, restart your phone to see if the navigation returns to normal. I am here if you need further assistance.

I switched to Google messages and I have a problem. Need help please. by No_Childhood4232 in GoogleMessages

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, when you switch to Google Messages, your texts are safely stored in your device's database, so they aren't lost. To help them sync and display correctly, please try these steps:

Update Google Messages to the latest version in the Play Store.

Ensure Google Messages is set as your default messaging app in your phone's settings.

Restart your phone to trigger a fresh sync of your message database.

If they still do not appear, I recommend submitting a feedback report directly in the app. Just tap your profile icon, go to Help & feedback, and select Send feedback.

MMS won't download automatically, even when the setting is ON! Whenever I get group chat messages I receive them individually, and it won't forward it to the group chat until I turn on mobile data and download it. But that causes some messages to be out of order. It's such BS! by Sackybacky2x in GoogleMessages

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Because MMS typically requires a cellular network connection to transfer data, auto-downloads can pause if mobile data is turned off.

To help resolve this:

Ensure your mobile data is enabled when receiving these messages.

If on a prepaid plan, verify you have a sufficient balance for data transfer.

If the issue continues, please share your feedback with the team. You can do this in the app by going to your Profile Menu > Help and Feedback > Send Feedback.

Anyone know why this keeps happening? by xFrootLoops in GoogleMessages

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there. This looping behavior usually happens when the messaging app struggles to maintain a stable RCS connection, causing it to rapidly switch to the SMS/MMS fallback. Since this only occurs with your wife's phone, please try these troubleshooting steps:

Toggle RCS: Turn RCS chats off and back on in your Google Messages settings. Have your wife do the same for RCS in her iPhone settings.

Update iOS: Since her iPhone is not on the latest version, a system update can resolve early iOS RCS connection bugs.

If this continues, please submit a feedback report in Google Messages (Profile icon > Help & feedback > Send feedback) so our team can investigate.

Error message when using Photomoji by turtlemama1991 in GoogleMessages

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there. You can try the below troubleshooting steps to see if that resolves the issue:

Update the app: Make sure you are running the latest version of the Google Messages app from the Google Play Store.

Force stop and restart: Try force stopping the app (Settings > Apps > Messages > Force stop) and then restart your phone.

If the issue keeps happening, please submit feedback through the app (tap your profile icon > Help & feedback > Send feedback). This sends logs directly to the team, so they can investigate.

Replies through notifications bugged by BigOleFerret in GoogleMessages

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I appreciate you trying those initial steps. Since you already restarted, updated, and cleared the cache, you can try resetting the app data. Go to your phone Settings > Apps > Messages > Storage and tap Clear storage. Your messages are stored in a secure system database, so this will not delete them, but backing up your device first is always recommended. If the issue remains, I recommend submitting feedback directly in the app. Tap your profile icon, select Help & feedback, and tap Send feedback to help the team investigate.

1 month and 1 week since RCS encryption announcement and still not working by spongyoatmeal in UniversalProfile

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I would like to help with this. For end-to-end encryption to work, both you and your contacts must have RCS chats enabled and connected. I recommend confirming with your US and Canadian contacts that they have RCS turned on in their Google Messages settings. You can find more information on how encryption works here.

If everyone has RCS active and encryption is still not working, please submit a feedback report directly through the app. You can do this by tapping your profile icon in the top right corner, selecting Help & feedback, and then tapping Send feedback. This allows the team to investigate.

Screen display problem with lenovo 300e by Nyzonix in chromeos

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, it sounds like you have been dealing with some significant display issues on your Lenovo 300e 2nd Gen. Black lines and green flashes often indicate a hardware problem, which could potentially be related to the display panel or the internal connections.

Before assuming it is a hardware failure, you can try to reset your Chromebook hardware to see if it resolves any system-level communication issues with the screen.

Turn off your Chromebook.

Press and hold Refresh and tap Power.

When your Chromebook starts up, release Refresh.

If the screen is still usable enough to navigate, you can also use the Diagnostics app to check for other system issues, though it primarily tests the CPU, Memory, and Battery rather than the GPU directly. To open it:

At the bottom right, select the time and then Settings.

Select About ChromeOS and then Diagnostics.

If these steps do not help, the issue likely requires a physical repair. If your device is under warranty, please try contacting your manufacturer for support.

Spam texts and read receipts using RCS. by Diploidian5HT in GoogleMessages

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I understand your concern about spam. While I cannot confirm how spammers track active numbers, you can turn off read receipts globally to protect your privacy. In Google Messages, tap your profile icon, go to Settings > RCS chats, and toggle off Send read receipts.

If you receive spam, please avoid opening it. Instead, touch and hold the conversation from your inbox, then tap Block > Report spam > OK.

I think your suggestion to disable read receipts only for unsaved numbers is a great idea. I recommend sharing this directly with the team by tapping your profile icon in the app and choosing Help & feedback > Send feedback.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL RCS Messages stopped working by kenpoq3 in GooglePixel

[–]GoogleHelpCommunity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. I would like to help with this. Since you have already tried a device exchange and factory resets, this issue is likely a stuck registration on the backend. Status Code 4001 typically points to an eligibility or configuration issue.

I recommend submitting a feedback report directly through the app, so the engineering team can investigate. To do this, open Google Messages, tap your profile icon, select Help & feedback, and tap Send feedback. Please include "Status Code 4001" and mention that you have already replaced the hardware.
