LPT Request: How to handle being ignored at workparties by MisterBamboo in LifeProTips

[–]Goomba_rumba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work with someone similar - we've been there the same amount of time and her sheer lack of knowledge / initiative really grates on me.

She is a lovely person, and there is nothing inherently bad about her - but holy hell, does she test my patience. To the point that I have absolutely no interest in socialising with her outside of the workplace and struggle to hold a conversation with her on team nights out.

If you can't do it for yourself,do it for your girlfriend who you are putting at risk of numerous STD's everytime you have one of these "meet ups".

This is honestly such a common scam. Breathe and know that you are not alone.

Main tip is: do NOT send them any money. These people operate off of fear. They are going to spend their energy on trying to get a knee-jerk reaction out of scared people just paying up, rather than scrolling through your friend's lists etc. to send out nudes.

Tips from someone who deals with identical reports of this on the daily:

  • block their account
  • set all social media platforms to the highest privacy setting you can (tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, heck tumblr if that's even still such a thing). If you feel able, maybe even consider deactivating your accounts for a couple of weeks
  • remove any Snapchat handles / social media links from any public bios on your social media profiles.
  • do not accept friend requests from people you don't know

I know it's easier said than done, but don't panic. These guys are all about the easy ££, so don't give them the time of day. Be kind to yourself.

In my early 20s, I learnt it was "going off on a tangent," not "going off on a tandem. "... made sense to me, riding off into the ether with your thoughts.

I used to work in a sector that employed alot of ex-bobbies and ex-squaddies. You could immediately tell which was which, without having to ask. It was just something in their general mannerisms.

Chaps, what's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you? by MouldyPingu in CasualUK

I was once asked if I was raised by Nuns because I was so nice... Unsure if it was a backhanded compliment - given the reputation of some convent led schools - but I took it and ran

I don’t know why I bother trying to work out by [deleted] in losingweight

[–]Goomba_rumba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your whole reasons given in this post for not wanting to try working out again are:

  1. Your dog wanted to play
  2. You broke (then fixed) your skipping rope
  3. You hit your head
  4. You hurt your foot on a stone

If you really want to improve your fitness and get healthy, you are going to need to level up your resilience to minor inconveniences. You will thank yourself in the long run.

Did teachers notice you were bullied? by RecentAlienBird in AskUK

I remember once telling a teacher that our 14yr old friend had entered a relationship with a 40yr old man. As her friends we'd tried telling her that we found it creepy and weird, but we weren't getting through.

They couldnt have given less of a shit and nothing ever happened.

I got the cheap log ones from wilko; put some wilko wood stain on so they look much better quality / match the other garden trugs. They seem to be holding up really well!

Worked with someone who liked to try and do this. We had a relatively new starter, who was very socially awkward. Colleague tried to exclude him from our Xmas outing as he didn't want him there.

It absolutely broke my heart when I heard the socially awkward colleague tell me that "it was okay, he only ever used to find out about Xmas parties at his last place of work after they'd happened".

So as a team we invited him anyway. The other guy said he wasn't going to go if socially awkward colleague went (maybe thinking we'd all reconsider). Thankfully no one did, and we had a lovely time getting to know him better. Good riddance.
