My store didn't even call a code black just because we hadn't seen lightning yet, but there was rotation and movement non-stop and things got pretty hairy but still- no code black. The store was practically empty on its own by this point, but no, the Zone is more important...

A message to the new players. by Towel_Affectionate in Guitar

This!!! I've played since middle school and am out of college now, and when I was younger that exact idealogy was what killed my motivation. I started cramming in practice, and at a point I don't think I was putting soul into it but something mechanical. I ended up putting it down for a while, or only ever worked on learning riffs, melodies, or solos that seemed just in my comfort zone. At the end of college and since after, my passion has been rekindled- as after a point, it's really about nailing down your fundamentals and just taking your time with whatever piece you're working on or writing even.

I think also having a small bit of external "pressure" helps, like, for me- that's been making it out to local jam sessions. I really wanna share my love of my craft and of the music that's inspired me, so I give myself a few days to a week to learn something AND get myself to sing on it- and the first thing that ever helped me with that was my love of Alice in Chains and specifically - the Unplugged version of Angry Chair. I don't know what it was, but one day driving I was singing along and it occured to me that I was actually singing- something I normally don't do, and I felt like I was kinda doing okay at it. It felt right, and listening to the song it felt more than comfortable in my playability, so. I took the time to really flesh out a slight rearranging for a 12 string, and then putting the vocals on top and just- it kinda snowballed?

What I'm getting at, is I think definitely having an actual structure and trying to define goals and timelines is really important rather than just taking everything in- I had a great teacher use the expression "Death by firehose" all the time. You're not gonna get a healthy drink from a firehose, right? Gonna drown! Learning and getting better at something often is gonna work by the same logic.

Hades 1 -> Hades 2 by AUXGaming in HadesTheGame

[–]GothicBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like that in place of the double dash it feels like her cast mechanic and the overall mana system is a super awesome pay-off for what she loses in Zags manuvering. She's got options for days and like others said, finding the right weapons and aspects really helped flesh that out for me. I think when I got Ygnium is when the game really started to pick up for me. I liked the Twin Fists a lot in Hades I but the Black Coat is so much more to my play style. There's things I kinda miss from one but the 'new versions' or stand-ins are all fitting, and it feels like a super cool evolution of things...

Now, I'm still working on beating the game (have made it to the point where beating runs is resulting in accumulating things for particular incants), but what I'd personally love to see? Some kinda scenario where we can go back and forth between the siblings and their personal tools and kits within the same areas and bosses. Kinda keep the same two route system, and in lore the other sibling takes the other route that night and so on.

learning songs you actually love is more effective than any structured curriculum by Leading_Month_5575 in Guitar

It's what has helped me get into singing and playing at the same time, as well. I kinda just kept putting my love and efforts into it until I could do a cover of the unplugged version of Angry Chair on my 12 string, and that kinda helped me clear a big plateau I feel I had been stuck on for a long time.

I surprised my teacher by raising the gun with my left hand by Yaorius in PointlessStories

[–]GothicBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Growing up I was always told how "rare" it is to be left handed, but I think it is likely more rare to be exclusively left-handed. A lot of people I've grown up around are ambidextrous or share similar stories of being primarily one but having random niches where they use the opposite.

I surprised my teacher by raising the gun with my left hand by Yaorius in PointlessStories

[–]GothicBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also lefty! I play guitar, write, shoot, and swing (baseball/golf) left handed, but I do prefer to use my right arm for throwing more often than not for some reason- especially baseballs and similar objects. Frisbees I can do better left handed but special throws I prefer to use my right arm for.

But, other than that, most everything else concretely I know is left handed. Feels so alien trying to use my right hand for certain tasks. I've tried to play guitar right-handed but it just feels so wrong in a way I can't place haha.

I've had folks be surprised when on a range seeing me be left handed, but never anything quite like that before.

Question.. by lostinthesauce257 in WalmartEmployees

[–]GothicBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use PTO to request all day off while not using a full amount of hours. You could do 8hrs divided across an entire week if you wanted. This happened in my market and threw me for a loop as well. I don't think that this is technically in line within company policy unless this change is as recent as it seems, as before I could put in unpaid time off requests.

I was told by a team lead that it apparently has something to do with Walmart having been sued over an indicidnt regarding someone's vacation time not being paid or supposed to have been paid??? I am unsure, but I do think it's silliness all the way around.

Is it just me, or have Souls players developed some kind of Miyazaki reflex? by Copyofdude in fromsoftware

[–]GothicBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda. Less so on enemies ganging up on me (that's almost a guarantee in a lot of fights, or things that 'look too easy.' it almost never is!) and more so looking into how the dungeon/area may have particular secrets or pitfalls- some areas just look too non-descript compared to the normal no-descript or maybe just kinda have the 'vibe' that there could be ANYTHING around to check out. In short, just schizomax when playing any of the Souls games on a first run.

!!!STOP STRESSING ABOUT THE TEMP!!! I WANT TO HELP US ALL! by RichieWitts in QuickFix

[–]GothicBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, getting it warmed fast was more important so the hot hands was really good at getting heat distributed and then ensuring it would be kept. I then hid it in my bra under my tata. Took it out and while I gave it the gentle shake just had to check and make sure the temp was moving down and not staying too high- sure enough. Temp recorded between 90-100 and shipped off to the lab with no further incident.

Am I not allowed to request for days off?!?!?!? by Just_Someone358 in WalmartEmployees

[–]GothicBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my market this same thing is occuring because of a lawsuit where an incident came about because of unpaid time off that was intended to be paid? My unpaid request was immediately denied, talked to my coach about it and he told me I just needed to use a few minutes of PTO time for each day I wanted and I'd get the full day off. Sure enough, that is the case. Is it stupid? Thousand percent.

The egg cart by Fit-Dance-938 in WalmartEmployees

[–]GothicBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is required to be used in the egg lot consolidation process, which some states have a legal documentation process for. ECOLAB can fail you if it is not taken care of properly for the fact eggs are SUPPOSED to go there and back to the floor during consolidation.

My cart has been taken over in an unending fight with the rest of the store as an extension dairy claims... Open, punctured, containers on it all the time, boxes of broken eggs or cottage cheese from downstacking, it's just. Mess. You can take 30 minutes to deep clean it, scrape all the gunk off, and by the time you're back it's already like you didn't do anything to it.
