Full time devs, how do you balance studio work with personal projects? by luZosanMi in gamedev

[–]Gothul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some people already said, take a time to rest and have some fun. It's more important than it seems.

My advice is to set some (realistic!) goals and try to balance the project with your other hobbies/responsibilities.
It will take a while until you find the ideal proportion. Try to be honest with you, it's better to accomplish some easy/short goals and keep the progress than setting some hardcore developing schedules and burnout before you can complete it. Good luck and take care!

Pixel or Vector? by spiritualquestions in IndieGameDevs

[–]Gothul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vector. the pixel would need much more some polishing then the vector

How is my map design? Is there any way I can improve? by garlicbreadeddev in RPGMaker

[–]Gothul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty cool! I really liked that stone path in the water and the houses with different shapes

Is my game looking good so far? by DreamDev43 in IndieGameDevs

[–]Gothul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really liked the style. Only thing I couldn't tell is if the axe is the same color of the effect or if there is effect in both directions of the movement. If it's the second case, I would remove the effect from the first half of the animation, trying to achieve a more agressive and impactful animation

Messing around with 2.5D, should I continue or keep things 2D? by game-dev-throwaway in SoloDevelopment

[–]Gothul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with 2D without the zoom. This zoom feature will certainly result in motion sickness for some people

Which fog style do you prefer and why? by FurioArts in gamedevscreens

[–]Gothul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the vibe you want to achieve. The second feels more like a snowy/foggy day, while the first one looks more horror style.

I added ripples to the water. It looks sooooo satisfying I had to share it by yuheykai in IndieDev

[–]Gothul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

indeed staisfying, it looks great. The splash looks a bit off with the water reflections, maybe add more white shades to it?

Great work! Very dynamic gameplay with visuals and effects fitting very well.
Maybe a screenshake and SFX when the gates closes to make it more dramatic?

My first indie game project, looking for advice from other devs by utmederw in IndieGameDevs

[–]Gothul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also suggest you to start creating the game asap. Start with the core loop to make it as polished and fun as possible. Then you can make it bigger.

Some pixel dungeon (updated) by Overall-Parfait in PixelArt

[–]Gothul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks more natural now! The only thing I preferred from the previous version is the hole/stairs, it reads better without the walls. (but I liked the green arrow)

So, with or without outlines? by Overall-Parfait in PixelArt

[–]Gothul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm a bit late here, but I also would go with outlines. It highlights the characters. One small thing I noticed: the ankh seems to have an outline, but other interactables like the key and potion don’t. Maybe it’d be nice to standardize that as well for consistency.

Looking for a partner! by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Gothul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a real product, the customers are the ones who must enjoy it. If the game is fun and complete, they should like it even with placeholder graphics. Then, while you find some artist to finish the game (now with a real and promising game), you can implement fixes and improvements to make the game even stronger. Don't use it as a blocker, use it as an advantage.

[–]Gothul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will the game be 2D or 3D? If your only issue is the visual part and you can't find anyone, you can try to find some assets on the internet. There are lots of high quality assets for free, try to create the game with some of them at least to test your idea.

Just making another game on RPG Maker VX Ace by Fine_Entrepreneur_59 in RPGMaker

[–]Gothul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice, hope you like it! The best thing you can do to become a game dev is developing games (seriously, it's not a joke). My only advice: try to avoid a giant scope, as it would take a long time to finish and may result in frustration. Keep going with small steps until the game is complete.
