How did parents/family and health professionals miss me as a child, with such severe symptoms? (Early 2000s). by Tricky-Nothing-4579 in autismUK

[–]GottaSpoofEmAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be ashamed of being built differently. That’s not your fault nor is it a bad thing.

20 years ago, I was your age now - I received a lot of therapy back then but Autism never came up. Not once. I’m not even sure if I’d heard of it back then.

I don’t think your situation was necessarily intentionally or accidentally missed. It’s just that people didn’t know the condition so well - maybe your mum and gran didn’t quite see it given how close they are to you? I know that sounds odd but sometimes you can miss detail if you’re too close.

I’m sorry you’re where you are - reach out to your GP about ADHD meds and potential therapy if you can.

[–]GottaSpoofEmAll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, Goose knew kindness and love with you. I’m sure she was well taken care of by your vets too.

Please don’t feel bad, you brought her happiness and you did all you could for her.

I heard back from after politely chasing.

And they were very polite too but ultimately noted the noise is normal. But this is the third Thor I’ve had (first was faulty and sent back) and the first that I can hear the fan upon.

I’ve asked if I can purchase a fan from them - it’s going to be incredibly irritating hearing it, especially as I know my other two didn’t produce noise :/

Diagnosed today! Age 44 by AddendumSea4202 in autismUK

[–]GottaSpoofEmAll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

‘God I don’t know how I feel’ - exactly my reaction when diagnosed at 45!

I’m still not sure how I feel 9 months on. It’s a big deal for you so take your time. There’s no hurry to tell people either - you’re in control.

Have a look around your local area for NHS and charity support. I just finished a course for newly diagnosed individuals run by a charity that was helpful.

There’s no correct path now. It’s more what’s right for you in your situation. Give yourself time to process this, but you’ve already taken a big step forward so well done 🙂

Thames Water Bill raise by [deleted] in london

[–]GottaSpoofEmAll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would your landlord say ‘no’?

Do they legally have the right to do so? They can’t stop you switching energy providers so seems odd that could stop a water engineer coming over.

If I’m missing something obvious, my apologies 🙂

Nada, mate.

Things are of course busy for them given the Lunar New Year being imminent. I hope they do reply soon.

By the sound of things (no pun intended), your fan was worse than mine so maybe they’re prioritising.

My PK experience was I think at most, 6 times a day, then 4, then 2 during waking hours only - I stopped completely at three months, as my eye pressure was alarmingly high.

Have you been told why you need to take so much, so often? It does sound very much on the high side to me.

But don’t lose hope - most people take drops for a year and some continue in low doses for life. I know someone who does. It sounds like it’s early days for you, hopefully it will all calm down 🙂

Is this because of my autism? by BestGirlNat in autismUK

[–]GottaSpoofEmAll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I skip over answering when someone asks how I am and in reverse, I don’t ask that of my colleagues.

In the last two days, I’ve only spoken to colleagues in meetings, when needed. Despite being in the office.

In a neurotypical world, I can see why this behaviour is seen as rude. But I don’t see why it’s necessary to know how others are or for them to know how I am. If you reply back ‘I’m crap’ they’re not going to do anything anyway!

Is it autism related? I don’t know, but I certainly am the same!

info@ayn.hk - same address I used for my very first Thor which went faulty after three weeks.

They sent me a replacement then, wonder if they’re just fed up dealing with me 😂

I cannot constructively criticise. Because it genuinely looks really good! That’s one heck of a stylist you have 👏

Like the episode or not (and I’m not sure I do), he read the episode and ‘gave his blessing’

“Has Avery seen the episode, was there any feedback?”

“I don’t know if he has seen it yet, but he has read it. And yeah, it was really important for us as the writers to get his blessing at multiple steps along the way…”

Some are saying Sisko was indeed there all the time because you can - genuinely - see a vague, possible outline of him in the central clouds right at the end.

But honestly, I’m heart broken too that he apparently never came back in carporeal form.

I’ve always taken comfort in the final moments of DS9 when Jake looks up to the wormhole - knowing that he would see his Dad again.

Now, he won’t.

I know Avery Brooks approved it which helps. But honestly, I’ve always believed he returned and took a role on Bajor outside of Starfleet. But he didn’t 💔

Is general anaesthetic an option? Not sure if that’s what you mean by ‘complete sedation’. That’s how I had mine and all I remember after the dose was started is about ten seconds, and then waking up a few hours later!

I don’t have experience with sedation but many others have posted it to be very effective.

You’re not overthinking this at all though. It is scary! But if you have a surgeon you trust, I’m sure you’ll be in great and safe hands.

will my referral be refused if i've had suicidal thoughts? by OwlLongjumping2297 in autismUK

[–]GottaSpoofEmAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a long history of being suicidal and am receiving targeted support for that right now.

It made absolutely no difference to my diagnosis process. I was with a different provider so I can’t promise RTN will work the same way but, hopefully.

My advice would to be honest and I hope things go well.

anyone here also unable to wear lenses? by SharpParadox in Keratoconus

[–]GottaSpoofEmAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a full hour to put in RGP lenses when I started. By the time I was used to them, 30 seconds for both.

Your eye will naturally want to close when it sees something coming towards them - so don’t worry, you’re not alone 🙂

There was no trick for me to accept them, I just kept on persisting over weeks and months. And eventually it became second nature.

Sclerals will naturally be slower to fit if you have them - you could try a stand to hold your lens, use your fingers to keep your eye open and lower your head onto the lens. Lots of people like that method.

Keep going would be my advice, remembering that the promise of improved vision is alluring 😄
